Home of the Platypus.....
Congratulations to Ned Crotty, Madison Jr. Lacrosse Alumni (Duke 09), for being named to the US Men's National Team!!
Please be aware MAROON helmets are required for all players grades 5 and up beginning in 2010.
**Important Changes for the 2010 Season!!** Please Read Before Registering Elite Team (7th & 8th Grades): Consisting of 18-22 players in grades 7 & 8 selected after a tryout/evaluation period. The Elite team will practice 1 day per week (in order to accommodate middle school team schedules) and play only on weekends against teams of similar skill level. We anticipate a schedule of 8 games on weekends and hope to enter this team in one competitive tournament. Players on this team are required to make a full commitment to all practices and games. The objective of this team will be to develop advanced lacrosse concepts, compete at the highest level of competition and win games. Players are guaranteed 1 quarter of playing time in games, additional playing time will be at coaches discretion.
Select Team (7th & 8th Grades): Consisting of 18-22 players. 8th graders who do not make the Elite team will automatically qualify for the Select team. 7th graders may be selected to play on the Select Team after a tryout/evaluation period. The Select team will play a full schedule of 10 games plus 1 end of year festival. Practices will be 1-2 days per week with games on weekends. Players on this team are expected to make a full commitment to all practices and games. The objective of this team will be preparing players for HS lacrosse while developing advanced lacrosse skills and winning games.
7th Grade Team: Team will play a 12 game schedule plus 1 end of year festivals (Platypus). Team will practice 3 days per week with games on Saturdays and Sundays. Players are expected to make a full commitment to all practices and games. All players are guaranteed at least 1 quarter of playing time in games, additional playing time will be at coaches discretion. The objective at this level will be to begin preparing players for HS play and win games.
6th Grade (2 teams): More position specific instruction. Players will more than likely have 1 position. Each team will practice 3 days per week play 10-12 games and 1-2 end of season festivals. Winning is a secondary goal and playing time may be adjusted depending on basic skills and strength of opponent for safety considerations. We ask that players playing in 2 spring sports choose lacrosse as their primary sport. Playtime will also be based on practice attendance. Some players may be encouraged to participate in additional games designed to improve basic skills against teams of similar competition and skill from other towns.
5th Grade (2 teams): At this level there is still a heavy emphasis on basic skills instruction as well as a shift toward more focused positional instruction (1-2 positions per player) and advanced team concepts. Contact is introduced as well as man up/man down “special teams”. Practice (2-3 days/week) becomes more important and missing of practice will likely result in reduced playing time. Players who demonstrate good practice participation and good attitudes will see equal playing time regardless of skill level. Goal is to play in 10-12 games. Winning is not a goal. Playing other spring sports is still tolerated but practice is much more important at this level due to the advanced team concepts introduced. Some players may be encouraged to participate in additional games designed to improve basic skills against teams of similar competition and skill from other towns.
4th Grade: This level an instructional level practices are 2 days/week and are mandatory. Players will play multiple positions throughout the year. The team will play approximately 8-10 games with approximately half home, half away. The goal is to provide equal playing time to those who come to practice. Winning is not a goal. Players may play other spring sports but missing practice may result in reduced playing time in games. There is little contact at this level and no “special teams” (man up/down for penalties). Full Equipment
2nd & 3rd Grade Clinic: Purely instructional. No body contact, full equipment required. We anticipate this program beginning early April and run approximately 6 weeks. Goal is to have 1 day per week of instruction and 1 day of intersquad scrimmage. 3rd graders will likey particpate in 1 or 2 scrimmages against other local towns (Summit, Chatham) at the end of the year.
