7th and 8th Grade (2-3teams): This upcoming season we plan to field multiple teams on the 7th and 8th grade level.  As we did last year we will divide players into groups by ability and have those groups play a schedule appropriate for their skill level.  Unlike last season we will not be picking a set team, instead we will seek to adjust rosters on a weekly basis.  By doing this our goal is to reward those players who work hard, attend practice and improve during the season, but also ensure players receive ample playing time as opposed to sitting on the bench on a team that may have an abundance of skill at one position. How we proceed will be driven largely by how many kids register for the spring season.  With uncertainty regarding a lacrosse team at Madison Jr. School we cannot say for sure what our offering for 7th and 8th will be at this time.  Last year we reduced practice and game days to accommodate the fact all our players were also playing for school teams, this year that may not be the case.  As more information and details become available we will post them to this site.

6th Grade (2 teams):   More position specific instruction. Players will more than likely have 1 position. Each team will practice 3 days per week  play 10-12 games and 1-2 end of season festivals.  Winning is a secondary goal and playing time may be adjusted depending on basic skills and strength of opponent for safety considerations.  We ask that players playing in 2 spring sports choose lacrosse as their primary sport.   Playtime will also be based on practice attendance.  Some players may be encouraged to participate in additional games designed to improve basic skills against teams of similar competition and skill from other towns.

5th Grade (2 teams):  At this level there is still a heavy emphasis on basic skills instruction as well as a shift toward more focused positional instruction (1-2 positions per player) and advanced team concepts.  Contact is introduced as well as man up/man down “special teams”.  Practice (2-3 days/week) becomes more important and missing of practice will likely result in reduced playing time.  Players who demonstrate good practice participation and good attitudes will see equal playing time regardless of skill level.  Goal is to play in 10-12 games.  Winning is not a goal.  Playing other spring sports is still tolerated but practice is much more important at this level due to the advanced team concepts introduced.  Some players may be encouraged to participate in additional games designed to improve basic skills against teams of similar competition and skill from other towns.

4th Grade:  This level an instructional level practices are 2 days/week and are mandatory. Players will play multiple positions throughout the year. The team will play approximately 8-10 games with approximately half home, half away.  The goal is to provide equal playing time to those who come to practice.  Winning is not a goal.  Players may play other spring sports but missing practice may result in reduced playing time in games.  There is little contact at this level and no “special teams” (man up/down for penalties). Full Equipment

2nd & 3rd Grade Clinic:  Purely instructional.  No body contact, full equipment required.  We anticipate this program beginning early April and run approximately 6 weeks.  Goal is to have 1 day per week of instruction and 1 day of intersquad scrimmage.  3rd graders will likey particpate in 1 or 2 scrimmages against other local towns (Summit, Chatham) at the end of the year.
