Thursday, November 8 History of the Meridianville Athletic Association This excerpt taken from the March/April 2007 MAA Newsletter and information provided by Shannon Baltimore: Meridianville Middle School was on the land back in the 60's. Then it was turned into Meridianville Elementary School. The school had a gym and the YMCA used it for basketball games. The school was torn down in 1972. The land for Fields C and D was owned by the Hamilton Family. They sold or donated the land to the Lions Club. The land for Fields A and B was given to the County Commission. In 1972, the Lions Club leased the land the Fields C and D are on to the YMCA for 99 years. The YMCA closed in 1997. The County Commission took over the lease at that time. The Madison County Rural Recreation (MCRR) program as we know it today was started in 1998. Ronnie Elliott has been our county director since then. IN the past, he was an official and called ball games at the gym that was here in the 60's and 70's. Roger Jones is the County Commissioner over our area parts. We are in District 1, along with Hazel Green, New Market, and Mt. Carmel. We are now the Meridianville Athletic Association and we are sanctioned and governed by the Madison County Rural Recreation Department. If you have any information on the history of the park and the MAA that you would like to share, please contact the Meridianville Athletic Association at mjlbhulin@comcast.net. Pictures and written history would be greatly appreciate.
