Kristina Hernandez – Head Volleyball Coach



One of the youngest head coaches in the nation, Kristina Hernandez begins her fourth season as Loyola's head volleyball coach and camp instructor. A native of Texas, Hernandez is a 2003 graduate of North Carolina A&T State University. In her first season at the helm, Hernandez helped the Greyhounds double their win total from the previous year, improving from 5-24 in 2003 to 10-18 during the 2004 campaign. In addition, the Greyhounds won five of their final seven matches during Hernandez's rookie campaign. In 2005, Hernandez and the Greyhounds battled through adversity to finish the season with a 7-25 mark. This past year she led the team to a 7-11 conference record and they made it all the way to the consolation championship at the MAAC tournament in Disney. Since her arrival at Loyola, Hernandez has remained active in the sport of volleyball at the local level. During the past two summers, Hernandez has been involved with the USA Volleyball Summer Program and was the assistant coach for the first-ever Chesapeake Regional Youth National Team. Hernandez earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from North Carolina A&T after a stellar volleyball career where she served as the team's setter and was named as the team's Rookie of the Year. Following graduation, Hernandez served as co-head volleyball coach of the Golden Bear Junior Olympic Club in Berkeley, California. She also worked as a physical education instructor at Herbert Hoover Middle School in San Francisco and was a volunteer assistant coach under Jon Stevenson at Saint Mary's College in California. The Gaels were one of five teams from the West Coast Conference to qualify for the NCAA Tournament during Hernandez's lone season with a 20-13 record. A member of the Northern California Volleyball Association and American Volleyball Coaches Association, Hernandez received an increased mastery and professional application of coaching theory certificate through USA Volleyball for coaching the Golden Bear Junior Olympic Club team. In the summer of 2003, Hernandez completed an internship with USA Volleyball in the Beach, Education and Grassroots program under John Kessel, who is the Director of Beach and Grassroots programs.




Jessica Bensley – Assistant Coach



After a stellar four-year career at Villa Julie College, Jessica Bensley enters her 2nd year as an assistant coach for the Greyhounds during the 2006 season. A 2006 graduate of Villa Julie College, Bensley ended her career with 991 kills, including a team-high 460 kills during her senior season. A two-time first-team All-North East Athletic Conference honoree, she was named as the conference's Player of the Year last season after helping the Mustangs reach the conference championship match. Bensley served as a two-year team captain and was named as Villa Julie's Most Outstanding Female Athlete last year. In addition to her talents on the court, Bensley has served as an assistant coach for the TimeOut Volleyball Club since 2004.
