Woo Wows'em On The Hill & At The Plate In Stallions Win

Stallion lefty hurler Cory Woosley tossed a gem on the hill for Louisville Stallions thursday night holding the DC Orangemen to 4 hits in 7 innings and giving up only 1 earned run as the Stallions defeat the Orangemen 4-2.  Woo struck out 10 batters and scattered 4 hits over 7 innings to get the complete game win.  Woo also had a night at the plate with two key hits to spark the Stallions offensively and stole a base.

Some late inning small ball heroics from Zach Adams and Matt West help generate two late runs to hold off the Orangemen.  Brandon White added a key rbi in the top of the 7th to give the Stallions a 2 run advantage going into the final frame and the Stallions get a much needed win 4-2.

Stallions play a make up game tonite of a previous rainout against the Norten Bears beginning at 6:30pm.

Stallions Take 2 From Sweathogs
coachyellingani
Homerun huh???...well 16 You're Outta Here!!!

The Louisville Stallions galloped into the scenic pastures of the Swallowfield Sweathogs Saturday and feasted on some Franklin County Pork all afternoon as the Stallions win both ends of the double header over the Hogs.

In Game 1 the Stallions behind the strong arm of Macon "El Gigante" Smith cruised to an easy victory 9-2 over the Hogs who seemed stuck in the mud.  Meanwhile the Stallions lit up the bats for a change led by Zach Maupins 3 run shot over the right field fence at Sweathog Stadium.  Coach gets tossed in the 2nd inning following a brief exchange of opinions with the homeplate umpire....Seems  an unknown Stallion retrieved a foul ball and wrote "the ump sucks" on the ball before returning it to play....Apparently the ump in addition to being blind, doesn't have a sense of humor either.  Next to be ejected by the man in blue was Zack Maupin following his 400 foot bomb for some well meaning but unappreciated commentary as he crossed the plate.  On the lighter side...Macon Smith got the complete game win giving up two runs in a solid effort.

Game 2's victory came not so easily as the Stallions start an entire new lineup and the Hogs regroup after a gourmet feast of pork and buns at Junie's Cafe then come out swinging in the nitecap.  The Stallions played from behind most of the game rallying to tie the game in the 6th.  Maupin gets UMPKED again and tossed this time from the bench for God knows what....Umps sense of humor has still not improved. Still tied at 3-3 in the 7th the game continues into extra innings and the Stallions get a clutch game winning hit from veteran OF John Miller in the top of the 9th to put the Horsemen up 4-3 as the Stallions holdoff the Swinemen in the bottom of the 9th for the hardfought victory.

Cory Woosley pitched awesome going 5 2/3rds innings giving up 3 runs with 5 K's.  Chris Smith, Stallions veteran SS, came in in relief going 3 1/3 scoreless innings.  Woosley left the game with the scored tied and gets a no decission while Smith slams the door as the Stallions rally in the 9th to get the 4-3 win.

Offensively, big day at the plate for  Zach Adams, Brandon White, John Christian, Zach Maupin all with multiple hits on the day and key hits from Nick Consigli and Eric Brewer and a game winner from John Miller...Nice job!

Zach Maupin, the hero of game one, set both a team and personal best record Saturday becoming the first Stallion in franchise history to get tossed from two consecutive games on the same day..the second of which he wasn't even in the lineup...So congrats to Zach.  It should also be noted that Coach White managed NOT to get tossed from game 2 (a full 9 innings mind you) also a personal best record for him at Sweathog Stadium.

The Stallions return to DCL league play Sunday for a double header beginning at 2:30pm vs. the Bears and the Orangemen in the nitecap at 5pm....See you at the park.

Wednesday, June 11
Stallions Continue Mid Season Skid

The Louisville Stallions in their last couple starts have looked more like Big Brown in the Belmont than Silver Mountain at Churchill Downs....dropping two consecutive decissions.

Friday night the Stallions behind excellent pitching from Canadian hurler John Christian Imploded in a bigway  giving up 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to lose a mindblower 6-5 to the Orangemen.  Christian gave up only 1 run in 6 innings and the Stallions looked totally in control, but closer Chris Smith forgot to tighten his lugnuts and the wheels totally came off as the Orangemen blast their way to victory 6-5.

Sunday was not much better as the Stallions could get nothing going and managed only 1 run to avoid the whitewash as the Angels led by 2 bombs by Mark Aubrey defeat the Stallions 5-1 at Derby City Field.

The Horsemen will try and regroup and take on the Grenadiers Wednesday night at 8:30pm at DCF.

Stallions Thunder Past Mustangs in 6-2

The Louisville Stallions finally put it all together thursday night at Derby City Field with a barrage late in the game to win the first ever meeting between the Stallions & Mustangs 6-2.

Big night for Zach Maupin who went deep for the second time this season.  Key hits including a double from Zach Adams, Cory Woosley, J.R. White, Jon Miller and Matt West.  Maupin tied the game in his second plate appearance at 2 a piece and the Stallions piled on late in the game scoring 4 more in the sixth to draw off down the stretch like Silver Mountain at Churchill Downs.

On the hill Chris Wanty started the game and pitched well for 4 innings giving up only 2 runs off a Mustang homerun and Stallion rookie and Male H.S. product Zach Grieshaber pitched 3 Scoreless innings and got his first win as a Stallion and at the Semi-Pro level.  Great job Zach!

Maupin Goes Deep....but Stallions Drop Close One To Rats

Shhh..don't tell anyone..the Rats won

Zach Maupin had a great day at the plate reaching base 3 times including a homerun, double and a walk but was not enough as the Stallions are defeated by the Derby City Small Ballers a.k.a., The River Rats 6-4.

The Stallions played well with big hits from Maupin, two from Chris Smith, Cory Woosley, Brandon White and J.R. White.  Pitching was also very good from the KWC duo of starter Josh Schultze and Brandon Robinette but the Rats proved their small balls were more effective than our large balls so the Stallions drop to 3-3 on the season and will try to pick up 3 Derby City wins this week.

Tuesday's game vs. the D.C. Orangemen is rained out and rescheduled for friday night at 8:30pm.

The Mascot for the Louisville Stallions Baseball team SILVER MOUNTAIN remained undefeated as a 3 year old taking the 1 3/8th mile $43,100 Allowance race on the Turf at Churchill Downs on Monday Memorial Day....Trailing by as many as 14 lengths during the race SILVER MOUNTAIN closed with a rush on the far turn to take command and draw away to win by 3 lengths.  Another awesome performance by the Stallions' Mascot.  Off the impressive victory SILVER MOUNTAIN  has been Nominated to the $600,000 Colonial Turf Classic at 1 3/16ths miles on June 21st and the $750,000 Virginia Derby at 1 1/4 miles on July 19th at Colonial Downs in New Kent Virginia.

Stallions ALLENiated in 7-2 Mauling By Bears
Well what started off well rapidly deteriorated in to an emBEARassing loss for the Louisville Stallions thursday night at Derby City field...Close for a few innings the young and agressive bear cubs took advantage of toooooooo many Stallion free passes to first and opened it up in the 6th with a 3 run bomb by former Stallion Eric Allen to put the game out of reach as the bears down the Stallions 7-2 in inter-divisional play.  Stallions next take on the DC Angels thursday night May 29th at Derby City field at 8:30.  Players should report by 7:45pm and we will wear the Maroon jerseys for this one.

Stallions Take Derby City Opener 7-6
starbatter

The Louisville Stallions opened the Derby City League Season in fine fashion defeating the DC Stars 7-6 in extra innings.  The Stallions pitching was the key as 4 different Stallion pitchers kept the Stars in check and never relequished the lead.  3 Kentucky Wesleyan Pitchers did most of the work as Josh Schultze pitched well for the first 4 giving up 2 runs with 6 K's, Brandon Robinette threw 2 innings and Chris Smith went 1 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs in the 8th after a scoreless 7th inning.

With the score 7-5  The Stallions went to the bullpen for the 3rd time and brought in El Gigante 6'7" Macon Smith to try and slam the door on the Stars.....Smith gave up 1 hit and got the final two outs including a strike out of the final Star Batter to get the Save....Chris Smith records the win and the Stallions take the lead in the Derby City League 1-0 & 3-0 overall.

Big hits offensively from J.R. White, Frankie Parra, Zach Maupin, Dan Greenberg & Jon Miller contributed to the Stallion's win.

Stallions next game is Thursday night at 8:30 pm at Derby City Field as the Horsemen take on the Snortin' Nortens...Not sure what a Snortin' Norten IS?....but if they are snortin' the Stallions will try and tame them.

Louisville Stallions Shutout Evansville Outlaws!!!

Four Louisville Stallion Pitchers scattered 3 hits over nine scoreless innings to totally shutdown the powerful Evansville Outlaws 2-0 on Saturday at Derby City Field.

Following several days of relentless rains the sun finally came out on Saturday and after 5 hours of labor on the field the game finally got started.  Macon Smith went 4 scoreless innings giving  up only 1 hit and striking out 5.  Chris Wanty threw two scoreless innings striking out 4 including all 3 in the 6th.  Cory Woosley contributed 2 more scoreless innings and John Christian closed, nailing down the win for the Horsemen.

Offensively...good day for Brandon White who had went 3 for 5 with an RBI double in the gap and scored a run himself.  Defensively, Stallion rookie Eric Brewer put on a masterful show at SS getting 5  putouts in the first two innings and turning a couple double plays.

Stallions improve to 2-0 on the season and will play next when Derby City League play begins a week from Sunday on May 18th at noon at Derby City Field.

Tuesday, May 6
Stallions Season Opener Saturday May 10th vs. Outlaws!!!
outlaws3gif

The Louisville Stallions will open the 2008 Season this Saturday May 10th with a Double Header against one of our oldest(and I  do mean oldest) rivals, the Evansville Outlaws.  The Stallions will have allota new colts in the barn this season and it should be interesting to see how they respond when the Outlaws saddle up and ride into the ole pea patch on Cadillac Court.  The Outlaws have a new Gangleader in longtime SS Darren Lynam following the sudden and unexpected retirement of Outlaws Founder Tim Turpin.

Meanwhile The Stallions with over half of last years team having been retired to stud duty...this years crop of promising colts look like they could pick up where last years Stallions left off.  Game time Saturday is high noon EDT with Game 2 to start about 30 minutes after game 1 concludes.  All the best in Semi-Pro baseball action is at Derby City Field beginning this Saturday.....See ya at the game!!!!

Stallions Cruise Past River City In Preseason Contest!!

The Louisville Stallions in their final tuneup for the Regular Season cruised past River City 10-4 on Sunday at Derby City Field.  The Stallions used 7 pitchers over 9 innings scattering a mere 2 hits.  Walks and beaned batsmen accounting for most of the damage on the board.  Overall a good tuneup for next weekends season opener against the always dangerous Evansville Outlaws.  Seven Stallion pitchers saw action Sunday including 2 solid innings from Macon Smith and Chris Wanty.  Cory Woosley, Devin Shinkle, John Christian and Kevin "Beam me up Scotty" Smothers all saw action on the mound.

Stallions next game will be Saturday May 10th vs. the Evansville Outlaws at Derby City Field at Noon EDT.

After a tough road trip to The Nati over the weekend dropping a pair to the Cincinnati Chiefs the Stallions rebounded impressively winning for the 3rd time in four meetings over the Southern Indiana Cardinals, decisively this time 12-2 in 9 innings. The Beaver Dam Wildman, Rob Coulter, went the first 5 innings pitching well giving up two unearned runs in 5 innings with 4 K's. Justin Adams threw 4 scoreless innings for the Stallions and had a single, his first of the season with only 2 AB's. The Stallions, like many teams this time of year, have been nagged with injuries but put together an impressive late season win over a quality So. Indiana team made up primarily of Div-II players from USI in Evansville. Coulter and Adams combine for the win.

Stallions Run Rule League Leading Halo's 11-1
The Louisville Stallions, banged up, bruised, but certainly not confused, handed the DCL leading Louisville Angels a sound thrashing Tuesday night at the ole Pea Patch on Cadillac Court. Last time I saw an asswuppin' that lopsided was when the human race of planet earth was getting drilled by space aliens in the film Independence Day.
Seems fitting that it all occured On July 4th eve...The Stallions were the Space Aliens and the Angels were the Earthlings and nothing the Earthlings tried could stop the Space Aliens. The Stallions scored 5 times in the first and 4 times in the second to open a 9-1 lead after two frames. In the top of the sixth the Stallions push one across to go up 10-1 and then load the bases for Dave Roberts to drive in the game ending 11th run, as the Horsemen geld the Angels 11-1.
Great pitching from Jason Driscoll and great execution moving runners around the bases proved lethal to Halos. Offensively the Stallions could do little wrong, with key base hits from Dave Roberts, Mike Witten, and Alex Nikolich. Defensively, nearly flawless and Jason Driscoll gets his second win in a row. Next up for the Stallions...DC Stars on thursday night at 8:30pm at DCF.

Stallions Wild Weekend Produces Mixed Results!!!

Justin Gets NONO vs.Ranchers
Well there's Good News and there's Bad News to Report for the 4th of July weekend...First the Good News...Stallion Rookie lefty Justin Adams(Univ. of Cumberlands) threw a complete game NO HITTER against the not so Ragin' Ranchers from Illinois in the opening round of the USBC World Series. The Stallions scored in every inning to run rule the Ranchers 10-0. Adams was superb giving up only 2 base runners, one on a walk and the other was a victim of an ugly foot plunking. In other Good News...Zach Maupin provided most of the offensive in the NO NO against the Ranchers hitting two 3 run homers and driving in 6 of the Stallions 10 runs.
Now for the Not So Good News....Following one of our best performances of the season we then left The Swamp in Evansville and headed north to Ruxer Field to play the Jasper Reds in Round II of the USBC World Series. 3 First inning errors cost the Stallions dearly as we give up 3 unearned runs and go down 3-0 in the top of the first. The Stallions rallied scoring 2 in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the 2nd inning to tie it at 3-3. Each inning was a slugfest and the lead vollied back and forth as each team smelled what the other team was cookin' until at the end of the sixth inning it was tied at 8-8. Stallion Starter El Gigante, Macon Smith, gave way in the 5th inning to left fielder Chad Allen who finished the game but took the loss as Chad gives up a dinger to the Reds in the top of the 7th and the two run shot proved to be the difference in the game as the Red prevail 10-8.
More bad News....Short handed and out of pitching a game and half ago...the Stallions suffering from numerous injuries including a pulled hammy for Stallions leading hitter Brandon White, added to the Stallions whoas. With only 10 hands on deck for the 3rd round of the USBC World Series. Starter Rob Coulter(KWU) pitched well and went the distance but the Stallions drop a close decission 3-2 to the Southern Indiana Cardinals. Stallions played well in all three games but injuries and a lack of troops cost us a couple games. The Stallions run their record to 20-9 on the season and play next on tuesday at Derby City at 6:30pm vs. DC Angels. Jason Driscoll will take the hill for the Stallions on Tuesday night at the Ole Pea Patch on Cadillac Ct.

Big First Inning Dooms Bombers 3-1

Bombers Bomb Out 3-1
The Louisville Stallions continued their winning ways Tuesday night at Derby City Field as the Horsemen defeated the struggling DC Bombers 3-1. All the fireworks though came in the first inning when Zack Maupin hit a triple with the bases loaded. Maupin gets 3 RBI's and that was all that was needed as Jason Driscoll(Purdue Univ) kept the Bombers bats quiet all night.
The Stallions had two triples on the night Maupin and Mike Witten both had 3 baggers. Solid Defense and good pitching have been the Stallions mainstay all season and last night was no exception. The Stallions improve to 19-7 on the season and 8-5 in the DCL. Next game is Friday Nite vs. Rats at 6:30pm.

Stallions Scalp Braves Twice In Nashville!!!
smokesignalsani
Okay...We give up..And How!!
After leaving the happy hunting grounds of Kentucky and a 3 hour trek thru the backwoods of Tennessee, our small herd of 10 Stallions found ourselves surrounded by a band of Indian Braves from Nashville. Not ones to back down from a fight and outnumbered nearly 2-1, the Stallions led by the largest of Stallions, Macon Smith standing 19.2 hands tall(or 6'6" for you non-horsemen), ambushed the Braves early scoring in the first inning of the contest. The swift footed horses stole at will, scoring an 2 additional runs in the 2nd inning. Leading 3-0 going into the 7th El Gigante(Macon Smith)pitched nearly flawlessly, allowing only 1 unearned run and getting the complete game win 3-1 over the Nashville Braves. Macon is undefeated on the season and improves to 3-0 with 2 no decissions that we also won.
Following game one, the Braves retreated to their teepees to stage a second offensive, while the Stallions grazed on some grindage from a local Subway Station. In game two little changed as the Stallions, led on the hill by the Beaver Dam Wildman, Rob Coulter, beat up on the weary braves, this time with combination of wooden and metal stix. Coulter pitched masterfully, for his second consecutive win on the season, getting a complete game shutout as the Stallions trample the Braves 7-0. Stallions with the Biggest Stix on Saturday were Aaron Sollberger with a pair of extra base hits including a triple. Chris Smith, Dave Roberts, Macon Smith and Mighty Midge(Zach Adams) all hit the ball well and were contributing factors in both wins.
With the two wins Saturday and a 7 game winstreak going, the Stallions improve to 18-7 on the season, 11-2 in Independent ball and 7-5 in the DCL. Todays Game vs. the Rats is RAINED OUT, next game will be Tuesday nite at 8:30pm at DCF. USBC World Series is this weekend in Evansville. Need All Players available for this series to be successful. Any family or fans wanting to make the trip, we are staying at the Days Inn in Jasper, Indiana Saturday night following the 7pm game there. Full Schedule of USBC games for Stallions is listed above in UPCOMING GAME INFO.

Win Streak at 5 As Stallions Win Amazing DCL Pair
bigstixani
Anybody for a little small ball
The interesting thing about Summerball is...You never know what you're going to get(sorry Forest Gump)...Wednesday night at the 'ole pea patch on Cadillac Court 10 brave Stallions showed up for a twi-nite double header. Where the rest of the horses were is yet to be determined. Here's the deal...we have one, count em'..ONE...Starting pitcher, Jonathan Huff, and he is already scheduled for a weekend game, plus nine position players to try and win two games.
Game one...Huff on the hill, Solly behind the plate and 17 Grendadiers ready to break this band of wild horses....But wait a minute...the Stallions have another idea. The Stallions take the lead 1-0 over IUS as Huff goes the first two frames before being lifted for left fielder Chad Allen who grunts out the next three innings. Allen does a commendable job giving up 2 two runs and keeping the Stallions in the game. The Stallions and Grenadiers go into the 6th inning tied at 2 a piece and, side out rotate(to barrow some volleyball vernacular), Stallion SS Chris Smith comes in for the final two frames. Top of 6 the Stallions manufacture a run to take a 3-2 lead as Smith takes the Hill for the bottom of the sixth. With time running out Smith gets IUS out in the 6th frame and mercifully, with precious little pitching left the game ends as time is called by the umps...Stallions win 3-2. Whew!!
Game two...Stallions vs. Orangemen...Crenshaw returns from the Derby City brig and is forced into the starter role. The Orangeguys and Stallions trade punches for 5 innings and the result is a 2-2 tie after five. With two out in the fifth the Orangemen drop down a slash bunt up the first base line pulling Sollberger off the bag...Crenshaw covers on first as Solly flips the ball to him and Crenshaw dislocates his shoulder reaching back for the ball. Time out...Aaron's dad happened to be in the stands and comes to the rescue resetting Crenshaw's grotesquely dislocated left shoulder. With only ten players available for duty this presented a problem....but then...In my 45 years of being in and around baseball I could not believe what I then saw...Crenshaw asks for the ball back and wants to continue...Not only did he continue but retired the Orangeguys in the 5th, pitched the sixth ...and then had to leave to go to work at UPS...Gotta love Summerball...Anyway, game continues with our final 9(and oh yeah Coach is eligible). Seventh inning, SS Chris Smith, winner of the first game and back for double duty in game 2, the Orangatangs go up 4-2 on a couple unStudly like errors.
Not to be denied the Never Say Die Stallions rally to tie in the bottom of the 7th at 4 each. Just what we need...Extra Innings. Smith Continues...8th goes by and still we play on. Smith Continues...retires the Tangs in the 9th. Out of gas and out of pitching a game and a half ago...the Stallions need to end this here and now. Adam Garrett reaches first. Chris Smith now the hitter steps in...wait..time out...Coach conference with Smith...okay..giving cover to Garrett on first Adam steals second...but is beaned by the throw down and is face down in the dirt as the ball hits Garrett in the noggin. Dazed and confused, which in not unusual with Garrett, he shakes it off stays in(as if he had a choice), and play resumes. Next pitch to Smith is lined in to right center for the walkoff double to end the game. Smith gets both wins on the nite and drives in the winning run... Amazing! Three hours twenty minutes and it ends at 5 minutes til midnite.
Remarkably, The Cardiac Stallions have now won 5 in a row ALL by one run and their last 8 games have been decided by 9 runs. Studs improve their season record to 16-7 and 7-5 in the DCL just 1 game back in the Major Division. The fun continues this weekend with a DH in Nashville on Saturday and the River Rats at Derby City on Sunday...See you at the park. Gotta love it!!!

Horsemen Take Two from So. Indiana Cardinals
Well the Louisville Stallions took their show on the road on Fathers Day, albeit a short road trip to Dixie Hwy and what turned out to be the friendly confines of Holy Cross High School field vs. a very solid So. Indiana Cardinal team. The Cards team, made up nearly exclusively of Div.II Univ. of Southern Indiana players, flew in from Evansville for a Daily Double with the Stallions.
With the temp well into the 90's by post time...the Stallions broke from the gate quickly opening up 3-0 and hung on to win 6-5 of a scrappy bunch of birds. Great pitching from Rob Coulter(KWU) got the win and Rob Sketo(WKU) got a 2 inning save. Offensively all the Stallions hit the ball hard all day including Mike Witten's first homer of the season, Aaron Crenshaws bat was hot as he went 4-5 on the day with two doubles. Adam Garrent hit the wall in left twice and got plunked once to reach 3 times.
Game two was more of a pitching duel with the Stallions Macon Smith improving to 4-0 on the season giving up only 1 unearned run in a complete game win. Offensively the Stallions seemed to be hit as much as hit the ball as several Stallions reach via the scarlet bruise. Crenshaw added another couple of hits as the DH and the Stallions take the nitecap 2-1. Next Game is Wed. nite at Derby City. We play a unusual weekday double header with Game 1 vs. IUS at 6:30 and game two to follow at around 8:30. Season is going well as the Stallions improve their record today to 14-7 on the season and are now 5-5 in the DCL and only 1 1/2 out of first place in the Major Division.

Friend or Foe??? UK's Huff Out Hurls UK's Henry...Stallions Win 3-1
jonhuffpix
UK's Jonathan Huff
Must have felt like the Blue White game at UK for two University of Kentucky hurlers thursday night at DCF, when, for the first time Stallions pitcher Jonathan Huff faced off against UK teammate Tyler Henry pitching for Total Concept.
The Stallions drew first blood, playing a little small ball, taking an early 1-0 lead, but not before a little more first inning verbal fisticuffs with the men in blue. Leadoff hitter Eric Crenshaw reached first in the 1st inning only to picked off at first. Eric then made a passing compliment of some sort to 1st base ump AND.........You guessed it ....He got tossed.   I guess they figure if they toss enough of us they won't be able to win.
But just to spite the umps the Stallions played one of the best games of the season as Huff goes 5 strong innings giving up only 1 unearned run in the 4th inning on an error by Frankie Parra. Only one ball was hit hard off Huff and that was a double which scored the TotCons only run of the game. Justin Adams pitched two shutout innings(God, I like the sound of that) and earned a two inning save for the Stallions as Huff gets his first win as a Stallion pitcher. Henry pitched well but takes the loss for the TotCons. Final score Stallions 3 TotCons 1. Off the field Huff and Henry are very good friends..but both are obviously strong competitors on the field. Nice job by both pitchers tonite.
Offensively the Stallions bats came alive and hit the ball well all night including a rbi triple by Mike Witten down the right field line to score Steven Mueller. Dave Roberts stayed hot...Chad Allen executed a perfect slash bunt...Adam Garrett's slumbering bat is starting to wake up and the entire game was just a good team effort. Stallions are off til Sunday when we will play a Father's Day Double Header vs. So. Indiana Cardinals at Holy Cross field at 5144 Dixie Hwy. Game times are 1 & 3pm....See ya at the park!!!

Drama at the 'Ole Pea Patch....Stallions Get Umpcked!!!
umpckedagainani
As I am sure you know...It is improper English to use the words "Good" and "Umpire" in the same sentence. It is also an oxymoron like "Jumbo Shrimp" or "Pretty Ugly" and that was certainly the case in last nights affair against a solid Stars team at DCF.
After repeatingly getting hosed by the umpiring crew at Derby City over the last 3 years...the homeplate umpire, who will remain nameless, attained neverbefore seen heights in umpiring lowness. So low in fact that the Stallions have had to drag out a previously retired word that we thought we would never have to use again. That word is "Umpcked". It is word coined by Coach following a similar umping debacle in 2006, a contraction really of two words...Umpire and ..well I think you can figure out what the other word is.
Anyway, The Stallions had rallied late again, as they have become infamous for, and after falling behind 2-0, scored once in the 6th inning. The Stars added another run in the top of the 6th. trailing 3-1 going into the bottom of the 7th the Stallions scored again to draw within 1. The MO had swung and the Stars were on the ropes. The horsemen then loaded the bases with 1 out and tried the delayed squeeze to no avail. With two outs and the entire bench having been used, Zach Maupin on third attempted to steal home to tie the game...the Stars pitcher balked...not once, not twice, but 3 times and we get NO CALL!! On the third balk Maupin tried to score and was called out at the plate by the Unknown Ump to end the game.
Stars get the win 3-2. The umps made a hasty retreat. Coach nearly busted a vein in his head, had a civil conversation (at the top of his considerable lungs)in the parking lot, as the men in blue retreated to the relative safety of the Derby City locker room. The Stallions were once again UMPCKED out of yet another come from behind victory.
I have only one, no two, other comments for the boys in blue....Don't quit your day job & Can you say "T-ball".

Stallions Nip Bombers in Extra Innings!!
wildeyesani
I can't believe My eyes...5 errors
It wasn't pretty but a game bunch of Stallions scrapped their way from a 2-0 deficit in the second inning to a 3-2 victory over the Derby City Bombers at DCF Sunday nite. The Bombers scored in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 on 2 unearned runs. The Stallions got one back in the third as Brandon White drove in the Stallions first run of the game to cut the lead to 2-1. A superb performance by Stallion rookie pitcher Macon Smith kept the horsemen in the game going seven strong innings and not giving up an earned run. After kicking the ball around for 3 innings, The Stallions knuckled down and tied the game in the fourth at 2-2.
Eric Crenshaw in relief for Macon Smith was sensational retiring the Bombers in the top of the 8th. Bottom of the 8th Zach Adams hit a double in the gap and Brandon White ended the game with his 3rd hit of the night, a single in the gap to score Adams for the walkoff win 3-2. Great offensive efforts tonite from Bdub, a triple from Dave Roberts and key hits from Zach Adams and Chris Smith.
Macon Smith was brilliant for 7 tough innings, but, left the game with score tied and Eric Crenshaw gets the win. That is the third win going to the bullpen and the never say die Stallions. Could not have done it with out Macon's effort though, so cudos to Macon. The Stallions improve to 11-5 on the Season and 4-3 in the DCL standings. Stallions next take on a very tough Stars team on Monday night at 8:30 pm at Derby City Field.

Stallions Split Saturday Double Header
Game one looked like the old Stallions banging out hit after hit including home runs from Dave Roberts and Aaron Sollberger as the Stallions, behind strong pitching from Justin Adams(Univ of Cumberlands), Jonathan Huff(UK) and Brooks Sketo(WKU), galloped past the Swallofield Sweathogs 7-1. Only offense by the Hogs was a 2 out bottom of the last inning homerun for their only score.
Game two left a lot to be desired. The Stallions came out flat footed, after a 2 hour siesta while the Outlaws dismembered the Sweathogs, and played perhaps the worst game of the young season. Defense sucked, offense was non existant and the Laws win outright. Don't remember the score in this forgettable effort but the Laws had at least a touchdown and we could manage only a single run in the last at bat.

jonhuffpix
The Louisville Stallions announced today the signing of Jonathan Huff, a 6'2" 190 lb. right handed pitcher from the University of Kentucky. Jonathan played two years at North Central Texas JC before joining the Wildcats in the SEC. Huff still has two years of eligibility at UK and will throw beginning this weekend for the Louisville Stallions. The addition of Huff will give the Stallions 4 Div-I arms among their pitching staff including Scotty Jenkins(UofL), Jason Driscoll(Purdue), Brooks Sketo(WKU)and Jonathan Huff(UK).

Rats Feast On Stallion Droppings...4-2!!!
ratani
Rats quietly sneak past Stallions
Whenever the Rats and Stallions take the field at the same time you can expect 4 things, great pitching, great defense, low scores & a great game. Once again that was the case again last night at DCF. In a tightly contested race in the Major Division at Derby City, the Stallions(3-2) trailed the Rats(3-1) by a half game for the league lead at the start of last nights contest. The Rats, behind a good pitching performance by Brian Halford, Chad "1-inning" Cahoe & Bryan Shartzer, jumped out to a 3-0 lead, on two Stallion errors. But, the always game Stallions battled back with good late offensive effort scoring twice to cut the lead to 3-2.
Due to bad weather around the state, The Stallions scheduled starter , Macon Smith, was holed up in a fallout shelter during a Tornado warning in Franklin County and the Stallions then pitched "by committee" with SS Chris Smith getting the start, LF Chad Allen going 2 innings and 1b Brandon White finishing up the last two. All 3 stepped up and pitched well but could not contain The Rats added as they add one more run late. The Stallions strand 2 runners in the top of the seventh and the Rats outlast the Stallions 4-2.
The Stallions record stands at 9-4 on the year and 3-3 in the Derby City League and are now 1 1/2 games out of first place in the DCL Major Division. The Stallions will host a 3 way dance on Saturday vs. their old nemesis, Evansville Outlaws & the always colorful Junie Arnold's Swallofield SweatHogs. Game 1 will be vs. the Hogs at 12 noon. Game two will be matchup between the Hogs & Laws. Then the Stallions will play the nitecap vs. The Outlaws at 5pm. Should be exciting!!!

Protest Withdrawn by Stallions...Grenadiers Get The Win 8-2
The protest filed by the Stallions against the Grenadiers for a DC League rule violation, as to rights to a player/coach, although upheld by the League Board, was withdrawn today by Coach White giving the win to the Grenadiers.
The Stallions were out pitched, out hit, out defensed and out and out manhandled by the IUS Grenadiers 8-2. There is NO doubt who was the best team on the field Monday night and the Grenadier players deserve the victory.
Midway thru the game The Stallions reluctantly filed an appeal and on Tuesday withdrew that appeal, as cooler heads prevailed. The Grenadiers will be awarded the win they earned and would like it duly noted that the Grenadier players did nothing wrong and were a very classy bunch who outplayed the Stallions in every aspect of the game and I tip my cap to them.

Stallions Sweep Both Ends of DCL Double Header
It wasn't easy but the Louisville Stallions took both ends of a double header in Derby City League play on Sunday at the Old Pea Patch on Cadillac Ct. In Game one the Stallions, facing Total Concept for the first time this season, jumped on top 1-0 in the first inning with a solo HR by Stallions left fielder Chad Allen(MSU) and then fell behind 4-1 in the third. The Stallions gamely fought back to defeat the Tot Cons in game one 7-5. Starter Rob Coulter(KWU) pitched well but wound up with a No decission and Scott Jenkins(UofL) was superb getting his first win on the season.
Game two was another epic battle this time against DCL newcomers The Orangemen. A seesaw battle from the gitgo the score saw several lead changes and tied scores thru out the game but in the end the Stallion gutted one out against a tough Orangemen team to prevail 6-5 in the nitecap. Lefty Justin Adams(UoC) went the first four, also getting a No decission, and the Stallions bullpen came thru again, holding the Orangemen at bay with two innings from Stallion rookie Brooks Sketo(WKU) and Chris Smith(KWU) pitched 1 1/3rd innings and got the win.
With two wins from the bullpen the Stallions move to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the DCL, good enough for a 3 way tie for first place in the Derby City League standings along with the Angels & River Rats. The Stallions play again tonite taking on the IUS Grenadiers at 6:30pm at DCF.

Stallions Trample Pirates....For The Last Time!!!
Thursday night a swarthy group of buccaneers sailed their ship into the shark filled waters of Port Bellarmine, to try and rob and plunder a large band of Diamond Horses from Louisville known as the Louisville Stallions....Only problem with the plan was the bulk of the robbin' and plunderin' was done by the Horsemen.
With 16 large, and two rather diminutive stallions on the premises for the contest, the buccos were not only outmanned but outgunned as well. With all 18 seeing action, the Stallions broke alertly from the starting gate and put up a six spot in the first frame of the game. As the game progress the Stallions continued to lengthen their lead thru the midpoint of the contest and finished strong down the stretch winning by nearly 3 touchdowns 24-4.
The entire game, as viewed from the Stallions Dugout, was a Sport Center highlight reel, with a few minor exceptions. From the Pirate Dugout must have looked like the game films may be more suited for the next TV Sports Bloopers Show or AFV.
Offensive highlights include a triple from Stallion rookie Zach Adams and I am pretty sure everyone else, but Coach, had at least 1 hit in the game and Zach Maupin got plunked at least twice...and oh yeah, Coach did have a nice sac bunt w/2 strikes.
Try as they may the Pirates were turned away by a rowdy pack of young colts who sunk their ship and stole their women. So badly in fact, were they defeated, that following the game, the Pirate's Capt. Jack(Tim Wait)was the victim of a Mutiny, and forced to walk the plank for the last time. The old band of scallywags then passed out new uniforms, changed their name to "The Metropolitans" and hoped the Extreme Makeover will help next Sunday when the Mets begin their MSBL league play.

Stallions Cowboy Up On Ragin' Ranchers!!!
Saturday morning, with great expectation, a small band of Illinois farmhands, known as the Ragin' Ranchers, loaded up their covered wagons and headed east to take on a herd of thundering Stallions in one of their home paddocks at the Southern High School clover patch on Preston Hwy.
After being ambushed along the way, only 7 Ranchers and a lovely scorekeeper named Ashley, survived the trek. The sodbusters from the Land of Lincoln then kidnapped 3 unsuspecting Stallions, brainwashed them, and converted them into enemy combatents for the day.
In game one, the largest of all Stallions, Macon Smith(6'6" or two meters tall for those of you on the metric system), dismembered the Ranchers, throwing 5 shutout innings while striking out six to record his 2nd win of the season. Stallion newby Steven Mueller completed the shutout, striking out 4 of the farmboys in two scoreless innings to get the save.
Game two, the Stallions stumbled out of the gate, giving up a run in each of the first two innings, while scoring twice themselves, then recovered nicely to draw out in the stretch, like Secretariat in the Belmont, to win convincingly 11-2. Pitching was the key all day as KY Wesleyan hurler, Rob Coulter, went 5 innings, scattering 7 hits while striking out 4. U of L's, Scotty Jenkins, was masterful, as usual, in his first action on the hill in over a year, striking out the side in the 6th. Chris Smith sealed the deal striking out the side in the 7th.
Alas, the Ranchers were left to lick their wounds, returned their barrowed horsemen and then headed their Conestoga wagons back toward the setting sun. The Stallions improve their record to 6-2 on the year and await the arrival of the MSBL Pirates next thursday in a 9 inning contest to be held at the Bellarmine University cow pasture on Newburg Rd. Game time 6pm. More later...

Angels Bedevil Stallions in first DCL Loss
The Louisville Stallions dropped their first Derby City game thursday night 5-2 to the D.C. Angels. The Stallions Scored first on a 2 RBI single by Brandon White to take the lead in the 3rd inning. Starter Justin Adams, threw 5 shutout innings and pitched out of several bases loaded jams but could not get out of the sixth. Chris Smith in relieve shut the Angels down but the damage had already been done as the Angels go on to win 5-2 in a tremedous ball game.
Stallions next game is Saturday, a Double Header beginning at 1pm at Southern High School at 8620 Preston Hwy.

Stallions explode for 15 hits
The Louisville Stallions exploded for 14 runs on 15 hits and dismantled the Derby City Stars 14-6 on Opening Day of the Derby City League. The Stallions behind a solid pitching performance from veteran pitcher Jason Driscoll(Purdue). Driscoll went 6 innings giving up 1 earned run and striking out 5.
The Louisville offense scored early and often as they opened up an 8-1 lead thru 5 and cruised to a easy victory. It was a total team effort offensively with numberous players having multi hits on the day led by DH Alex Nikolich with a double and two singles, a double from Mike Witten, Brandon White reached 3 times and scored twice and Adam Garret reached three times with a double, single and then got plunked. Stallions & Outlaws in Shoot Out at DCF!!!
panchogunsani
The Louisville Stallions took both ends of the double header Saturday at Derby City Field against our old rival Evansville Outlaws. The Outlaws got off to an early 2-0 lead over the Stallions in game 1 but the Stallions roared back to defeated Evansville 6-2. Strong pitching performances from University of the Cumberlands hurler Macon Smith and KY Wesleyan pitcher Rob Coulter who kept the Outlaws at bay and Stallions' closer in game 1 Brandon White got the Save.
Game two was more typical of a Stallions/Outlaws contest. Again strong pitching from the Stallions Staff as starter Justin Adams from University of the Cumberlands went 5 strong innings and giving up only 2 hits and 1 unearned run to go with 5 K's and KWU Chris Smith pitched 2 shutout innings to get a 2 inning save in the Stallions 3-2 Victory.
Several Stallions had a good day with the sticks. Stallions getting multiple hits on Saturday included Chris Smith, Frankie Parra, and Zach Maupin. Also noteworthy...Macon Smith leads the team in B/A hitting 1.000 for the season so far.
The Stallions are now 3-1 heading into Derby City Action beginning NEXT SUNDAY May 20th at Derby City Field vs. The Louisville Stars at 2:30pm

Stallions & Columbia Split A Pair In Season Opener!!!
The Louisville Stallions hosted the Columbia Curve in a PreSeason Double Header at Male High School on Sunday. On a perfect day weather wise the Stallions were tuning up for the upcoming Derby City League games and after dropping game one 7-1 to the Curve the Stallions bounced back with a vengence taking game 2 12-4.
In game one the Stallions were out of the gate first scoring 1 run in the first, but struggled with early season rust leaving too many stranded and could not get the needed hits at the right time. The Curve got the most out their 8 hits scoring 7 times and taking game one 7-1.
In game two the Stallions unloaded on the Curve behind a strong pitching performance by veteran Stallion RH'er Jason Driscoll. Driscoll was nearly flawless giving up only 1 hit in 4 innings and had 8 K's. Driscoll also had a good day at the plate with 3 hits and 5 RBI's. The Stallions had 13 hits and scored 12 runs. Stallion players with multiple hits on the day included Jason Driscoll(3), Brandon White(4), Alex Nikolich(4), Aaron Sollberger (2) including a HR.
The Louisville Stallions next game(s) will be May 12 vs. Evansville Outlaws with a DH. Game time and locations will be announced shortly.
