HEAT 14U RED TRIPLE CROWN SPORTS FIRECRACKER FRENZY TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

This weekend the Long Island Heat 14U RED showed everyone involved with Long Island softball that they could really 'Bring the Heat` by winning Triple Crown Sports’  “Fire Cracker Frenzy” (July 3-5 2009). The girls showed what they’re made of by defeating tough competition such as Team Long Island, The Long Island Bandits, and The Long Island Hurricanes for this Championship. Each member of the team contributed a huge amount to these victories and as a whole the team played outstanding.

Pitching was completely unstoppable this weekend with opposing players having to go up against the tag team of Nicole Moccaldi and Marisa Motisi. Their pitching was completely incredible and had the batters on their toes from the first pitch of the game. They never gave up and were a huge part of winning. Now to the `eyes of the field`, the catcher, Katie Marsman. Katie showed no hesitation to make herself known behind the plate.  In this weekend’s tournament she really made runners stay on their toes and made them pay the consequence if they weren’t fully aware of their every move. She was a huge help this weekend and was really dominate with her throws, catching runners stealing. Every part of this team made one tough defense that was heard to break.

The Heat defense was unbreakable the entire weekend with every player making outstanding plays, keeping their head in the game, and playing like a champion. When an error was made they shook it off and got right back in the game, which is what being a winning team is all about. The outfield had a tremendous weekend making non-stop `highlight-reel` catches and plays. Starring in left field was Brittany Mueller who showed off her awesome instincts by playing tough every game. She would bounce back from an amazing diving catch to throw the ball in quickly and save runners on base from tagging. Also putting on a show in Center Field was Jessica Giordano who controlled the outfield non-stop and always had her head in the game. In right field you would find Casey Waleko who was a tremendous asset to this teams success. She played solid every game and had the other team hoping they didn’t hit it towards right field. Also contributing was the impenetrable infield. At the corners you would find Kayla McCoy, Carissa Kinsella, and Madison Provencher. Kayla would play both first and third and hardly make mistakes, playing so that the other team would think twice before hitting the ball towards her. Carissa made outstanding plays which had the other teams on their toes and the fans on their feet all weekend. Madison had an amazing weekend a first making seemingly impossible stretches and hanging on to the ball the whole way. But the infield doesn’t stop there. Playing second was Holly Russell, now, she may be small, but she never failed to amaze everyone with her plays and positivity in the field. One of her spectacular plays includes a great catch of a line drive and then a throw to first for a double play in a clutch situation in the championship game. Also starring for this team was our short stop Nicole Gazzola playing smooth and executing flawlessly on every play.  Every part of this team made one tough defense that was heard to break.

The Heat OFFENSE was huge this weekend and as their coach would say “the bats were really on fire”. Every girl had outstanding hits and showed the other teams that their defense would have to be as good as the Heat’s is in order to win. Adding to Heat offense was Brittany Mueller who, batting fourth, really proved why she was batting in a clutch position. Also contributing was Holly Russell who bunted phenomenally when told to, but when asked to hit the ball she really showed her power. All weekend Holly hit the ball hard and far and never backed down. In Saturday’s seeding games every girl hit the ball hard and drove in runs to prove that the Long Island Heat did indeed deserve to be the number two seed. The girls all came together to score ten runs and not let the other team score once in the seeding games against the Greyhounds and the Long Island Storm. Going into Sunday’s elimination games they were undefeated (which they would remain) and unscored on. The team played like champions and came back from going down by three runs in the first inning to beat the Hurricanes 13 to 3. Against the Bandit’s the girls always had their heads up and scored in perfect times to win the game. In the final Championship game Holly Russell, Katie Marsman, Kayla McCoy, Marisa Motisi, Carissa Kinsella, Madison Provencher, Jessica Giordano, Nicole Gazzola, Nicole Moccaldi, and Brittany Mueller all came together as a team to win it all. These girls had a combined forty hits in five games, with three triples, three doubles, and four bunt base hits. With an amazing thirty-four runs for and only seven runs against! These girls played completely outstanding and the coaching staff and parents and siblings are all very proud of them. The wins won’t stop here however, because these girls are champions.
