London Youth Baseball League: Welcome

LYBL 2013 Season
Registration for 2013 remains open.  Go to the Online Registration page for details and link to the registration website.

For specific questions, please contact lyblregistrar@googlemail.com
The official season opening day is planned for 16th/17th March depending upon your team schedule.  Coaches should be in touch with details.  The final schedule should be posted soon.

We are implementing various methods to raise funds and reduce costs at LYBL this year.  If interested in making a special donation to the league, please contact Londonyouthbaseball@gmail.com.   Also, we are targeting a reduction in mowing costs by requesting parents to volunteer their time during the week to mow.  To mow all 4 fields takes about 4 hours when using our new mower.  If interested, please contact the same e-mail address.

Finally, we are expanding our concessions this year to include Skyco with the ever excellent John Wells Meats.  Skyco will handle the drinks and snacks area and will also offer their groceries (and catalogue) to customers.  John Wells will continue to serve their hamburgers and hot dogs (and catalogue) to customers.

 Have a great season!

LYBL All-Star Activity

Our 2012 Majors and Junior All-Stars played well in Poland, but were not able to win the competition.  A good time was had by all.

Our Majors then went on to play in the British Baseball Federation (BBF) UK National Championship.  Unfortunately, we were out-scored in the finals and finished in 2nd place this year after winning the National Championship in 2011.

Congratulations to the players and coaches for their great effort!

London Youth Baseball League Description

The London Youth Baseball League's goal is to serve the community by teaching the ideals of baseball skill development, good sportsmanship and team play. The League is open to boys and girls who are interested in Little League baseball, and is run by a Board of Directors composed of approximately ten volunteers who serve throughout the year to provide quality baseball and softball for community youth. All coaches are also volunteers and are normally parents of players.  We play all of our games at the former RAF Daws Hill base in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, located off the M40.

Over 250 children participated in our League last year. We field four divisions at Daws Hill. All divisions play official Little League rules with minor exceptions to accommodate play in London. The youngest division is T-Ball. The next oldest group is Minors.  Minors baseball has a combination of child and parent pitch rules. Next is Majors which is played on 60 foot bases, is player pitch, and provides very competitive play.  The final and most competitive age division is the Juniors, where play moves to 90 foot bases.  All ages are "as-of" April 30th.
Over the past several years, LYBL has represented England at the European Little League Regional Tournament in Kutno, Poland with teams in both the Majors and Juniors divisions.  The winner of the Majors tournament moves on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which is shown globally on ESPN.  The winner of the Juniors tournament plays in Taylor, Michigan.  The 2008 LYBL Juniors All-Stars won the Europe, Middle East & Africa Regional in Poland and advanced to Michigan for the Juniors World Series.

Both boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 15 play. Tee Ball is for children 5 to 7 years old, Minors Baseball is for children 8-10 years old, Majors Baseball is for 11-12 year olds, and Juniors is for 13-15 year olds. The League's regular season starts mid-March and ends in mid-June. We attempt to form teams on a regional basis to enhance practice time.  In the past, teams have been formed with players from the following areas (or schools): Alconbury, Bracknell, Cobham, Croughton, East Anglia, Egham, Hillingdon, Horsham, Lakenheath, ASL, London, and TASIS.

Finally, our concessions are top notch with John Wells cooking delicious hamburgers and hot dogs linked with Skyco providing drinks, crisps, and snacks (in addition to their grocery catalogue).  They provide a welcome (and always dry) spot for hungry players, coaches, umpires, families, and friends!
