Lima Buckeyes Baseball 2009 (20-15, 11-7)


Friday, August 21
The Buckeyes have now completed their second full season.  Overall, it was a very successful summer as our record was 20-15.  We also finished third in the Tiffin Men's League Tournament.  A few of this summer's highlights were defeating Ottawa Legion on a walk off single and also giving the Lima Locos a run for their money.  The Buckeyes would like to thank all of our sponsors who made it possible for the team to be able to play this summer.  Anyone interested in trying out for next year's team should contact Matt Rader at 419-306-8958 or j-rader.1@onu.edu.

Saturday, June 13
Buckeyes Lose 5-4 in 12th

The Lima Buckeyes traveled to Decatur Indiana Friday night to take on the Decatur DirtyBirds.  This game was the first wood bat game of the season for the Buckeyes.  Lima got strong pitching performances from both Ross Guisinger and Brad :Yinger as each pitched six innings.  At the plate, Scott Chandler recorded two singles and Brad Yinger had a single and a homerun. 

Thursday, June 11
Buckeyes move to 2-1 in league play

The Lima Buckeyes now stand at 5-5 overall and 2-1 in league play after last night's 6-0 win over the Kenton Kings. Pitcher Zach Botjer went all 7 innings and striking out 19 batters in the process, allowing only one hit.

Friday, June 5
Buckeyes win first league game

The Lima Buckeyes now stand at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in league play after defeating Uitto's last night 7-2. Ross Guisinger and Vince Gillfillian both hit homeruns for Lima. Brian Lybarger got the win on the mound (2-0), going all 7 innings, striking out 10. Up next for the Buckeyes is at Ottawa Legion tonight at 7:30 from Memorial Field.

Saturday, May 30
Buckeyes Drop Two to Troy Legion

Troy Legion was able to defeat the Buckeyes 6-5 in the first game and 9-7 in the nightcap.  In both games, Troy used one big inning to get the lead and never gave it back.  In game 1, Troy jumped on pitcher Zach Botjer in the second inning for 6 runs.  Botjer was able to shut down Troy for the rest of the game, but the Buckeyes were not able to mount a comeback.  In game 2, Troy exploded for five runs in the first inning off pitcher Brook Crawford.  Brad Yinger came in to relieve Crawford in the third inning.  Yinger pitched well only giving up three runs in four innings of work.  Ross Guisinger swung a hot bat all day and kept the Buckeyes in the games.  Ross went 7-8 with 3 doubles and a triple.  He also had 4 RBI's.  The Buckeyes are back in action Monday night at Lima Legion starting at 6:00.

Saturday, May 30
Buckeyes Win Opening Game

The Lima Buckeyes won their season opener Friday by defeating Van Wert 10-0.  The Buckeyes got a strong pitching performance from Brian Lybarger who pitched all seven innings, striking out 11, walking 2, and only giving up 4 hits.  Offensively for the Buckeyes, Aaron Lee and Matt Rader each collected two hits apiece.  Codie Roberts, Vince Gillfillian, Rader, and Lee all had 2 RBI's for the game.

Funding for 2009 season

The 2009 season is approaching quickly and the Lima Buckeyes are in need of donations in order to pay for league fees, umpires, etc.  If any company or person is willing to donate to the team, the money will gladly be accepted.  Please contact Matt Rader at (419)306-8958 or j-rader.1@onu.edu if you are willing to donate
