Leaside Third Round of Playoffs

Friday's Game - Lightning 2 - Leaside 2

Saturday's Game - Lightning 3 - Leaside 3

Sunday's Game - Lightning 1 - Leaside 2

What a hard fought series against two equally matched teams! You couldn't have any tighter of a series....both teams played really well!

I am hoping that this LOSS......puts the FIRE in our bellies that is needed to go forward as a team and CLEAN UP this coming weekend at the LLFHL Championships and then at the Provincials!

I know we have a GREAT TEAM.....so lets show em!

GO LIGHTNING GO

Monday, March 7
Nottawasaga Classic Mar 4 - 6th

Friday    AM Game - Clearwater Ice Cats 5 -  Lightning 0

Saturday AM Game - Ottawa Thunder 1 - Lightning 0

               PM Game - Lightning 1 - NorthhumberlandWild 0

What a great weekend of hockey and such a fun time for the team to socialize with one another! There was no shortage of things to do at the resort with the best being hockey of course!

Friday's game was a bad combination of flat feet, no luck, and some poor calls which made for an "off" game for our team.  It seemed once we got down a couple of goals...we just couldn't recover.

Saturday, was a whole new day....you girls just played great against the next two teams! The score was tight in the morning game against Ottawa and we pulled off the win in the afternoon game......you should be really proud to keep up with these B teams!Too bad about Friday's game.....I bet we could have been in the hunt for gold in the finals you played that well!

All in all, this tournament was a great challenge and learning experience which can only help us as a team to keep in top form for the important third round of play-offs! Let's see the return of Saturday's determination and quality of play when we play for "top spot" in our division this next round against Leaside!

Good luck girls........remember.......we're the #1 Chicks with Sticks!

Play Off Series - Round 2 - Lightning VS Barrie Sharks

Thursday Night's Game in Barrie - Lightning 6 - Barrie 3

Saturday's Game at Home - Lightning 4 - Barrie 0

 Pump...Pump...Pump it up!

We're Blue, We're Black, We're ready to ATTACK!

Let's celebrate, as the first team has been struck down by LIGHTNING and we are off to the next big STORM!

Thursday nights game was a bit of a nail bitter.....you could tell that both teams came to play and this was SERIOUS! After we settled in, our team came out on top with a 6-3 WIN in our first play off game!

The coach could see you all needed a bit of a "Let's pick it up girls" so he suggested to "surprise" you and have the dressing room all decked out before the game to get the team a little more PUMPED UP and to come out flying, with the need to do some DAMAGE.....and it worked....BYE BYE BARRIE...with another shut out for Kyra and a great VICTORY for our team with a final score of 4-0!

Your fans are with you all the way.....PLAY AS A TEAM.....and you guys will TAKE US TO THE TOP!

Go Lightning Go!

Everyone did their part to ensure the GOLD MEDAL were coming our way....especially our Goalie....but so did the Defense and the Forwards too! Keep up the winning drive and determination for the up-and-coming Play-offs and the Provincials girls! You're playing just awesome!

Exhibition Game - Lightning Bantam Select Team VS Lightning Peewee C Team 2 - 2 Tie
Wow...is all I can say! Your coaches and your fans were grinning from ear to ear! What an amazing effort and show of determination out there...mixed with a lot of skill and heart! I think we surprised this team a little.....we just played so WELL! That was the most exciting game yet...to score in the final minutes to tie it up and then to do so well in the shootout was just CRAZY! What a great warm up to play Leaside on Friday....play the same way.......and the GOLD is ours!

Thursday, January 20
Tues. Jan. 18th Lightning 2 - Keene 0
I don't think we played terrible or anything.....I just don't think we played outstanding either? I think we could have seen just a little more speed out there at times. We have to be careful not to drop to the level of play on the ice and to play at top speed at every game from start to finish! Congrats to Summer Sandford and Meaghan Adam for the nice goals and to Kyra Kwan for the Shut out! Oh and by the way team......CONGRATULATIONS FOR PULLING INTO FIRST PLACE........but it's a tight race.....so keep playing hard and staying on your game!

Monday, January 17
Sat. Jan. 15th Lightning 4 - Barrie 0

Wow, nothing like keeping up the pressure from the start girls and keeping it going strong all game! You came out right away with shots on net and you seemed to still have that same energy and drive in the third period - way to go! It was a great game with lots of effort from all of the team. Congratulations to Kendra Long, Chloe Lyons, Melissa Quaife and Caitlyn Stockla for the goals this game, to Kyra Kwan for her great shut out, and all of you for such a strong team effort..... your FANS are thinking you're just PLAYING great!

Saturday, January 15
Thurs. Jan. 13 Lightning 4 - Keene 0

I think over all we had a great game, the first period you girls seem to be a little flat out there but once we got our first goal you really stepped up the play. Outstanding goal tending Kyra...you definitely kept us in that game! Congrats to our goal scorers of the night Chloe Lyons, Victoria Cowley, Ally Marchese, and Caitlyn Stockla. We saw the defense working hard and our forward lines passing with some great shots on net. Go Lightning GO!

Barrie Triple Header Weekend

Friday Jan. 7th - Sun Jan 9            Fri.     Lightning  0       Barrie 1

                                                      Sat.    Lightning 5        Barrie 1

                                                       Sun.  Lightning 9        Barrie 2

I think the team might have been a little tired coming back from Christmas break and a LONG week at school because you seemed a little off.......not the same team we had been seeing lately? But after a good nights sleep you all came back with some snap in your step for Saturdays game and just played amazingly great for Sunday's game too! Nice work.......now that's the sign of CHAMPIONS!

As a team, we just keep getting stronger and stronger with some great plays happening on the ice. The coaches were impressed with all of you the way you are applying what you have learnt in practice into your game play! You can really see that your having fun playing a game you love, with teammates that are your friends.....and isn't that really what hockey is all about?

Christmas Tournament and Ennismore Game Up - date

Sun Jan. 2 2011              Ennisome 0 - Lightning 9

Way to start off the New Year ladies.  It's nice to see such a strong game and gain some more hockey experience as a team.  I hope we can come out " all guns a blazin' for the next couple of games against Barrie! We are going to need everyone on their game and ready to play fast aggressive hockey!

 Mississauga Tournament Dec 27-29

Well done Peewee C team we achieved a new record.....winning two games in a tournament and making it to the finals taking the SILVER MEDAL! Zorra is a pretty tough team and we saw some really fast paced, well played hockey...I think one of your best games yet! So even though they came out on top...this time....I think we still should be really proud to give them such a good fight! Special mention going out to Victoria Cowley and Summer Sandford for scoring "hat tricks" during the tourney!

Leaside Double Header

Lightning 2 - Leaside 0                     -             Lightning 2 - Leaside 2

Holy Moly what an effort by our team this weekend! You girls ROCKED!

Every single girl played to WIN and did their part to get us this all important WIN and then a TIE which gets us one step closer to our GOAL of SEASON CHAMPIONS!

This team should be very proud of all your hard work and the coaching staff too for bringing this team along as you have! Every time you girls get on the ICE we all see a team that is really starting to "GEL" together and play with a lot of HEART!

The coaches were proud to see the team "play like a team", seeing the players trust one another and making some great passes, for the aggressice forechecking to force turnovers by the other team, for the outstanding back checking.....and well for just playing some pretty GREAT hockey! Congratulations LADIES...keep it up.....and we are going places!

Making a Difference and Giving Back to our Community

The chillier air and the newly fallen snow helped to bring the spirit of the season alive to the DWGHA Peewee C girls hockey team as they gathered to celebrate the holidays together by doing something a little different! The fun evening started by meeting at "Santa's Castle" in the Pickering Town Center to take a team photo with Santa! The girls donned their team jersey's and their best Santa hats and Reindeer antlers! After a quick picture, they made their way to purchase toys for the "Toy Mountain Toy Drive". You could feel the excitement as the team individually picked out that "perfect toy" to be given away! The girls were all smiles as they gathered to take one final phonto with the newly purchased pile of gifts that would surely make someone's Christmas. It was so nice to see them learning the great feeling of "it's better to give than to receive". It was also a great opportunity to teach the girls to give back to their community! I bet on Christmas morning, then they are busy with all the mornings activities they will be thinking about that little girl or boy's surprise when they open their special gift on Christmas morn! Congratulations to Meaghan Adam, Jamie Brown, Victoria Cowley, Kyra Kwan, Lexy Linnane, Kendra Long, Chloe Lyons, Brittany Meraw, Melissa Quaife, Summer Sandford, Caitlyn Stockla, Rachel Turpin and Heather Yoksimovich for setting such a great example and I hope this becomes a nice tradition for next year and possibly start a cool tradition like this one with some of the other sports teams!

"Surprise" Weekend Tournament

What a lucky break for our team to get the extra ice time and the extra practice playing B teams in this tournament! Wow, you sure brought your game on Friday girls...and I think Whitby was surprised that they weren't walking all over us! Actually all three games, from what I saw, were played pretty well and I don't think our team looked out of place in the least! We could have maybe passed a little more, had a player in front of the net more, and someone might want to drop back if the defense has a chance to go with the puck.....were just a couple of things I noticed we could improve on. Can't wait to see our team play Keene and Leaside coming up.....I hope we play as well as we did in this tournament! A big thanks to everyone, coaches and parents, who pulled together at the last minute to make this tournament possible for the girls!

Sat., Nov 20 3:00 pm AJAX PEEWEE C (EAST) 12 DURHAM WEST LIGHTNING 0 ENNISMORE EAGLES

Another strong performance from our girls! Again, I thought everyone played great!

Let's keep it going and step it up a notch for next weekend when we play Barrie! As a team, we have to see fast skating all three periods! As well, we need lots of passing which keeps our team fresh and makes the other team work harder to get the puck! Great passing also allows us to have better goal scoring chances, as it makes their goalie work harder trying to guess where the shots are going to come from!

It was nice to see such strong defense and goalie skills at the last game...way to work! The other team had limited shots on net because we just kept shutting them down! And the shots they did make on net...our goalie denied them the goal! Congratulations, Kyra on your "shut out" victory!

Our forwards did a great job supporting the defense and getting the puck down the ice into a scoring position...and score we did...way to keep us up in the standings girls!

Our next couple of games are going to be a test of our skill and strength....but we are going to come out on top! Right girls! Let's show them what we are made of....Go Lightning Go!

Coaches and Parent Volunteers Thanks to everyone who has volunteered their time to help out with this team and to get it going! It’s great to see that a lot of parents are doing their part. Keep up the great work! One person alone can do good things….many people together can do great things!

Up-date on League Games: League Games Played 3……League games won 3…..continue with the great work girls you are only going to get stronger as players and better as a team!

Congratulations to all the girls for their hard work!

We have a great group of girls and parents that are passionate and hard working for the team.

Up-date on Tournament Games Well the first tournament didn’t show well in wins for the team, but the scores didn’t really reflect the games. From what I saw the games where not one sided at all, and the scores where tight. I think the girls should be proud of their effort and I know they all had a lot of fun getting to know everyone.

The second tournament although we didn’t make it to the finals but we did see our first tournament win! Most importantly everyone had a great time at our first away tournament with the girls building important friendships and bonded as a team.

Thanks to Kris for putting together some fun activities like movie night, dinners, and bowling! It’s just as important for the parents to get to know one another and form friendships and I think we are all well on our way.  or a !

Team Meeting  We had our first team meeting where coaching staff outlined web sites for the girls and parents to visit to get information from whether it being the DWGHA site, our teams’ web site, or the LLFHL web site!

Make sure you get a chance to check all these out. At this meeting they also reviewed the season with regards to league games, play off games/schedules, and all important Provincials…which would be our ultimate goal as a team!

Keep dreaming big girls…our coaches have great promise for this team to go to Provincials! Let’s all have that in mind each time we lace up!

We need everyone to work hard, dream big, and bring it to each and every game!

Birthday Celebrations  A quick shout out to the three girls on the team that are celebrating their birthday’s this month!   from your team!

Editor NotesPlease keep coming back for up-dates on team activities, game/tournament reviews, and so much more! If you have anything you would like to input, please feel free to contact anyone on the administration, or myself.

 Thanks….Lesley Long

Fourth Game - Thurs. Oct. 28th - 7pm Keene

The team looked like NHL stars as they stepped onto the ice to the NHL theme song and boy did they play like NHL stars! We were two players short and had a couple of girls playing sick but that was not going to stop them from the 4 - 3 win! Congrats to our goal scorers Heather for the all important first goal, to Ally for her nice break away goal, to Kendra for the tie, and Caitlyn for the game winner! We took some hits but you battled back for the win. The coaches, I am sure, wished they had more stars to hand out this game, but first star went to Heather for her great fore/back checking and passing....stars 3 and 2 going to Mozeralla and Chloe. Honorable mention to Rachel with the game saving play in the dying seconds of the game!

Saturday Oct. 30th - 8pm- Village Arena - Lindsay 13-0 Win

Another great game girls! Keep the STREAK ALIVE....5 for 5! What a good start for making our team goal of the Provincials! There were a lot of nice plays, some really great passing out there, and I saw a lot of girls listening to their coaches and being respectful of a team that wasn't as strong out there! Give yourselves a pat on the back for a job well done!

Leaf Tickets

Just a reminder to sell those leaf tickets! The draw date will be here before you know it! A big thank you to Mark and his family for this great fundraiser that benefits the team and it's players.

Wednesday, November 3
Tuesday Nov. 2 - Grand Ravine Arena - 8 pm - North York - 1-1 Tie

Oh...Oh what a night! Congratulations girls, because you all brought your game! We were all over them, 12 shots on net for us, 3 for them! We just needed that 2 extra minutes and that game would have been ours!

Before the game, the coach came over to ask me to tell everyone that while GOALS are great...it's the momments/plays before those goals that are most important! It's every girl giving it her all, it's winning races, it's being first to the puck, it's back checking the opponent so that there isn't a shot on net, it's the defense angling the opponent out away from the scoring zone, it's getting in the corners and coming out with the puck, it's making the puck do the work passing it down the ice, it's protecting your goalie.....of all which I saw happening out there on the ice! We may be a last minute thrown together team, but believe me, with hard work and a lot of heart, this team has great potential. The coaches stars for the night were 1st star being award to the girls with the "tic tac toe" passing that created the tie it up goal...# 16 Caitlyn Stockla and #3 Meaghan Adam. The #2 star going to Brittany Meraw for her defensive skills around the blue line and #3 star going to our call-up #00 Emma Jones for stepping in and doing such a great job. Honourable Mention going to #21 Melissa Quafe for the great breakaway she had during the game, her back checking, and for leading the team with 4 shots on goal!
