HISTORY

In order to provide a spawning ground for potential young champions, an opportunity for a lifetime of recreational golf, and an opportunity to develop meaningful relationships on and off the course, Leisure Hour Junior Golf Club has established a Junior Golf Program.  Over a half a century ago, The Leisure Hour Golf Club was founded by a group of people who just wanted to play golf.  The Club was formed in Portland, Oregon, and a few years later, the Western States Golf Association was founded.  Today, The WSGA serves seven western states with 32 member clubs with over 1,000 adult members and over 300 junior members.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Leisure Hour Junior Golf Program (LHJGP) Guidelines is to provide standard operating procedures that will help the LHJGP conduct a comprehensive and cohesive program for the development of Junior Golfers and to provide standard rules and regulations to be followed by the LHJGP members in formulating and maintaining the development of their golfing skills.

This contract is designed to teach responsibility and self-discipline to each athlete on and off the golf course.  In cooperating with the mentors, parents and school, the expectations placed upon our athletes will be high.  By signing this, each parent and golfer is committing to working towards common goals: training athletes to excel in golf and to building strong moral character.

CURRENT STATUS

Our mentors, long-time colleagues and friends agree the best way to assure success of our junior golfers is to have a well rounded program throughout the year….a program that specializes in golfing events, academic achievements, personal growth and development while providing positive role models.

ACADEMICS

Students are expected to do well in school and to fulfill study requirements.

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL BEHAVIOR

Try to reinforce self-respect and respect for others.  Be a Self-Manager, encourage and support your teammates and others on and off the golf course.  Be a positive role model for your peers.  Try to have a positive attitude about yourself and towards others.

ATHLETICS

Receiving guidance and direction from the Mentors with respect is very important.  You must demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times and respect fellow athletes and adults.

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance and being on time are an important fact of life.  In order to make the connection between school attendance and life success, we will teach the athlete that the two work hand-in-hand.

PROBATION

Probation will be a step in the disciplinary process taken by the Mentor and Parent for any athlete that is unable to follow team codes of conduct or attendance.  The purpose is to hold the Junior Golfer accountable and to teach them about personal responsibilities; it is not intended as “punishment.”

Members of the Jr. Golf Program guilty of inappropriate behavior and misconduct, including but not limited to behavior that shall be injurious to the character, interest or integrity of the Program, shall be required to appear before the LHJGP Disciplinary Board.  The member will adhere to the sanction of the Disciplinary Board, which may include suspension from key events and/or activities, suspension for a period of time specified by the Board, or expulsion from the Jr. Golf Program.  Any participant facing the Disciplinary Board more than three (3) times while enrolled in the Program shall be expelled.  The Disciplinary Board shall be comprised of members of the Leisure Hour Golf Club and parents of the Jr. Golf Program.

TRANSPORTATION

Everyone is expected to get to practices and to golfing events on time and be ready to perform.  If you need a ride, you must let your Mentor and/or Director know 48 hours prior to the event.

Transportation to and from most events will be provided through the LHJGP.  The expectation of the LHJGP is that every member will utilize the provided means of transportation unless other arrangements have been made with the Director or Transportation Coordinator.  If you are unable to make it or have other means of transportation, please inform the Transportation Coordinator to avoid financial penalties.

As stated, LHJGP will arrange for transportation for most group events.  With the expectation that all will participate, buses and other means of transportation are paid for according t the size of the group and number of participants.  A penalty of $5 will be imposed for each trip the golfer is expected to participate and does not show and does not notify the Transportation Coordinator and/or Director.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Parents, mentors, and volunteers from the community at large support the LHJGP.  In return, community service is expected of participants as a way to give back to the community that supports our endeavor.  While we encourage every member to participate, it is a voluntary element and not a mandatory component of the LHJGP.
