Legends Players College Bound

Manager Andrew Hadidian recently updated the Legends Family on our graduating Seniors college destinations:

Hey Legends,

This is such a great time of the year for some of our daughters and for us parents while we are very proud we are also a little sad! Our seniors are graduating and moving on with the next big step in their lives and the youngers are preparing for their last years of High School!

We were visited recently by one of our alumni, Grace Huang, who was mobbed by her old teammates! Her timing was perfect as she got to celebrate Courtney Sharrah's birthday as well! So I thought I would update everyone on where our current and past graduates are going or headed.

Jamie Dodge Cal Poly
Katie Newton UCSD
Didi Petkiewicz Boston College

State Cup Recap - Legends Advance to State Cup Semi-Finals!

Congratulations to the Legends for advancing to State Cup Semi-Final play for the first time.

In March the Legends headed into Round 1 of State Cup action.  Below are excerpts from Manager Andrew Hadidian's account to team and parents:

Hey Legends,

What an exciting weekend!

Sometimes things just work out. With our first game we played a Napa Elite team that was rusty as well. They got a couple unfortunate early goals before we settled down and controlled the game.  We had a great scoring output from Olivia, playing with a painful sprained lower back, she had 4 goals , Anahita added a patented slide tackle strike and Katie added a great bending direct kick that would lead to an even more important goal later! Our second game against our local rival CV Flames was a hard fought contest, we survived a couple early mistakes then Natalie settled down and made some great saves for us. They did get 1 goal late in the second half, which led to Coach Mehdi switch Kaley up to attacking mid, Olivia then connected with Kaley as she took the cross right out of the air and put it in the back of the net. Beautiful goal Kaley! Both sides hung on for the tie.

Our final game was against Heritage Ambush, and it started off very physical.  We scored our first goal on an individual effort by Allison taking on a couple defenders and then putting it past the keeper. Our second goal another "Bend it like Katie", came late in the second half on a missed corner attempt that came back to Katie, who building on the confidence of her earlier goal hit another beauty curving into a heavy wind into the goal to seal our win.

Congratulations Ladies and Coach!

Go Legends!

Then, on the weekend of April 22, the Legends advanced for the first time into State Cup Semi-Final competition.  Manager Hadidian offerred his concilaitory recap:

Hey Legends,

We could not be prouder of a team than we are of those 11 girls who played so hard Sunday, battling injuries, and no subs, to push the FC Elk Grove team to the very end. Special thanks to Brianna Slater for joining us one more time to give us our 11th player.

The girls overcame an early goal to bounce back, with the help of our stout defense, to take a 2 to 1 lead in to half time, on goals be Anahita and Olivia. The second half started and fairly early we faced a PK that allowed Elk Grove to tie the score inspite of Natalie's correct read of the shot! The score remained tied till less than 5 minutes remained when Elk Grove scored again. The Legends responded immediately with another goal by Anahita, tying the score in less than a minute. Because of a couple injuries in the second half the refs extended play 5 minutes and  unfortunately Elk Grove got another goal and that was how it ended 4 to 3 Elk Grove.

Ladies never forget the effort you put out there yesterday, you faced an Elk Grove  team that went undefeated this year at the State Premier level and stood toe to toe with them!

It is not often you leave the field with a loss but know that you played like champions!

Congratulations Ladies!

Go Legends!

Congratulations, Legends!

West Valley Legends 93G had a week to remember! Last weekend, Oct 29th/30th, they returned to the Placer Prestige Cup to defend their title. After defeating the MVU United, the # 10 ranked team in Northern California, 1-0 to start the tournament, it did not get any easier. In the Championship game after a disastrous first half, and fortunately only trailing 0-1 to the very strong East Fresno United Fusion team,  the girls rallied in the second half, and with no subs they played inspired soccer, scoring two goals to win and retain their title!
This weekend, Nov 5th, we had to play our final game to determine the league championship. The Legends needed their 4 to 2 win over Sunnyvale to win the U18/U19 Girls CCSL Bay Region Gold with a record of 7-1-1 !

Legends Win Opening Game in NorCal Premier Soccer Spring League

The West Valley Legends, after advancing to the second round in the CYSA State Cup in April, started their first season in the NorCal Premier Spring League on Saturday, May 22.  The Legends traveled to the field of the El Dorado Eclipse, overshadowing the home team with dominant play throughout the game.

The golden foot of Katie Newton provided the only goal of the game.  Playing with a different back line, the Legends defenders stepped up and managed to keep the pressure off our keepers.  The same could not be said for El Dorado's keeper who faced our daunting forwards and midfielders for the better part of both periods.

The Legends posted a solid team effort in the face of a few key injuries.  The entire team rallied in its first victory in a NorCal Premier Soccer League game!

Enjoying a holiday weekend, the Legends will resume play on Saturday, June 5th, when they face the Alliance FC Devils 93.  West Valley will host the game at Prospect High School at 3 p.m..

Then, on Sunday, June 6th, the Legends take on the PSV Union FC 93G Gold at Moreland/Castro Middle School.  Kickoff is at 10 a.m..

NorCal Premier Soccer League provides opportunities for soccer players with advanced skills to compete with and against others with similar skills and desires.

Legends Advance to Final 10 in State Cup

The West Valley Legends U16 Girls advanced to the second round of the CYSA State Cup last weekend following three exciting games and a PK shootout tiebreaker.

Heading into preliminary round play March 20-21 in Morgan Hill, the Legends had experienced recent changes in player personnel, as well as being hampered by injuries to key defensive players.

In Saturday's Game 1 against the San Ramon Fusion, Legends player Jamie Dodge perfectly executed Coach Mehdi Siadat's corner set play, which resulted in a 1 to 1 tie.

In the second Saturday game, new team member Lauren Hughes wasted no time in scoring her first “real” goal for the Legends, beating the Diablo FC 93 Blue keeper 1 on 1 and scoring what would be the only goal in a 1 to 0 win!

Starting Sunday morning tied with San Ramon, but holding a 1 less goal allowed advantage, the Legends knew that they needed a win to advance. The Delta Storm started off  slow, but a goal for the Storm mid way through the first half energized the team.  At half time, with the Legends down 0 to 1, our girls came out and pushed hard.  Megan Benham capitalized on a good cross from Kaley Nelsen to tie the score. From that point the Legends seemed to really put the pressure on, but they could not seem to find the net.

Late in the game with only a few minutes remaining, Coach Mehdi moved Jamie Dodge up from Center Back to Midfield, leaving the Defense with just three in the back.  With literary no time remaining in the final Game, the Legends put together some of their best passing and communication of the day - setting up a 30 yard strike by Jamie to the back of the net and sealing their 2 to 1 victory!

At that point there was a mad scramble to see what San Ramon had done, and, as it turned out, their 1 to 0 win over Diablo FC was just enough to tie with the Legends through the first 4 tie breakers:

1 - Head to head, tied
2 - Goals for - goals allowed  both 4 to 2
3 - Goals Allowed, both 2
4 - Most goals scored, both 4
5 - PK's  Off we go!

So after a quick team picture in front of the FC Gold Pride booth, the girls got together and went to an open back field to work on PK's.   After tracking down the officials and getting all the scores tallied, they confirmed the Legends were actually going to PK's and using the same field the girls were practicing on. Only 11 players were eligible to participate.

The shooting began with Katie Newton blasting her first shot past their keeper. San Ramon responded with a well place shot to even the score. The next shots were both missed.  The next round went to the Legends as Lauren Hughes scored,  and the San Ramon shot came right to Legends Keeper Allison Hadidian.  In the next round Olivia Hadidian scored, and so did San Ramon despite a diving attempt from Allison to her left.

So with the score 3 -2 in favor of the Legends, Jamie Dodge was up next for the last round. If she made it San Ramon was done; if not, they still needed to score to keep going. Jamie nailed the winning shot! All the Legends Players mobbed Allison,  Jamie and one another as they celebrated their first hard earned advance in State Cup!

This was truly a team effort as many girls played out of their normal positions and through injuries and pain to advance. The patchwork back line, pieced together because of injuries, did a great job in the back all weekend.  Jamie Dodge and Courtney Sharrah did an awesome job anchoring the back line.  Grace Huang and Nancy Yang were solid in center.  Katie Newton, Olivia Hadidian, Elena Allen, Karina Mohajerani Sarah Enderby and Selena Xu all contributed all over the field in many different positions.  Forwards Megan Benham and Lauren Hughes worked very hard, and each scored a goal.  The two new Legends - Lauren Hughes and Danielle Brown - were a great addition as the team dealt with injuries and rehab. Hurry back Didi and Tara!

Congratulations to all of the Legends players and coaching staff for advancing to the second round of State Cup.  This was the Legends’ third State Cup appearence since the club was formed in 2007.  Special thanks to Coach Mehdi for his tireless effort and knowledge of his players and where they should be at the right time to help the team best! A very Happy New Year and hopefully a very Happy 60th Birthday today Coach Mehdi!

The Legends will face the Redwood Peninsula Blast in the second round match at the Morgan Hill OSC North filed on Sunday, April 18 at 11:00 AM

Legends Over Legacy, League Champs

The West Valley Legends won the Abronzino Soccer League Girls U16 Class 1 Division 2 Championship today with unyielding defensive play and two second period goals scored by Katie Newton.

Heading into the weekend, the Legends would need a win or a tie to secure sole possession of first place. Playing the SASC Legacy, the score was 0-0 midway through the game.

Newton's first goal was scored 10 minutes into the second period.  Both teams stepped up play knowing what was on the line.  The Legends' defense did not waver.  Newton's second goal, coming late in the second period, cemented the Legends' victory.

The Legends finished the 10 game season with 8 wins, 1 tie and a loss.  Their season total 18 goals for was tops in their division.

Legends Douse Flames, 2-0

Sarah Enderby blasted the ball to the back of the net for the game's first goal

The West Valley Legends took the turf at Pat Tillman Stadium, Leland High School, on November 7 looking to secure a seventh league win to keep atop the Abronzino U16 Class 1 Division 2 Standings.

Down four players heading into competition, all Legends stepped up and played solidly during the first period.  Scoring opportunities just fell short, and the game was scoreless at half.

Sarah Enderby scored the game's first goal, blasting the ball to the back of the net.  Megan Benham assisted on the play.

The Legends continued to threaten offensively.  A pass from Michelle Keplinger to Elena Allen set up the game's second goal and secured a Legends victory.

The win brings the Legends record to 7-1-1 with one game remaining in their schedule.  The Legends will face foe SASC Legacy in their final game on Saturday, November 14, at Prospect High School.

Legends Victorious Over United, 1-0

Legends' Goalkeeper Allison Hadidian gazes skyward at her penalty kick save.

The West Valley Legends today clashed with league rival SASC United and emerged triumphant, 1-0.

Katie Newton scored on a solid direct kick late in the first half for the game's only goal.  Steadfast defensive effort ensued throughout the remainder of the contest by both teams.

Legends' goalkeeper Allison Hadidian came up with a great save in the waning minutes of the second period.  Then, with 1 minute left in the game, a Legends' hand-ball-in-the-box-call set the United up to tie the game with a penalty kick.  Goalkeeper Hadidian again made a fantastic save, this time diving to her right to slap the launched rocket shot from its trajectory.  Legends teammates swarmed Hadidian in celebration.

The win gives the Legends sole possession of first place in Abronzino Class 1 Division 2 League play heading into the final weekend of the fall season.

Teammates congratulate Goalkeeper Hadidian after her PK save.

Legends Crush San Carlos, 4-0

On a foggy halloween morning, the West Valley Legends played monster against the visiting San Carlos Crush.

Three goals - scored each by Olivia Hadidian, Amanda Richlin and Megan Benham - gave the team a 3-0 lead halfway through the game.  A fourth goal in the second period was tacked on by Katie Newton.

Solid defensive play kept the Crush at bay sending the Legends' opponents back up the peninsula with tricks and no treats.

The win keeps the Legends tied for first with the SASC United who were also victorious today. Both teams face each other in a pivotal match on November 1, the winner taking sole possession of the first place standing.

Legends' parents will be hiding all halloween candy until after the match.

Legends Defeat Legacy, 1-0

Megan Benham and Legends players head up field

Heading into League action on October 11, the West Valley Legends were tied for first place with the Sunnyale Alliance Legacy.

Megan Benham scored the Legends' winning goal midway through the first period.  Benham's shot was a great turn-and-shoot goal from well outside the top of the box.

The Legends' staunch defense kept the Legacy at bay throughout the second period, even deflecting two late corner kicks with all of the Legacy - keeper included - crowding the Legends' box.

The Legends' victory follows on the heels of a District Cup 4th place performance that yielded two ties and a loss. One of the 0-0 ties was against the Legacy.

Legends Defeat Flames 1-0

Game winning goal scored by Celeste DiLullo

The Legends battled through another heat wave on the radiating turf at Prospect High School on Saturday, September 19. The team faced the challenge head on, in spite of a limited roster due to injuries sustained by several players.

The match against the Almaden Flames was even at the half.

Legends players continued to push into the offensive third throughout the second period, with scoring attempts just missing.

With less than two minutes to play in the game, a threatening cross in front of a crowded goal was skillfully put in the back of the net by Legends player Celeste DiLullo.

The victory brings the Legends record to 2 - 1.  As of this writing, the Legends currently sit in first place, with two other league games yet to be played before District 2 Cup.

The Legends will face four league foes and the Juventus SC Firebrands in the Gold bracket of District 2 Cup over the weekend of October 3rd and 4th.
