Friday, March 14 Pirates Hold on to Early Lead Beat Angels The Major Pirates jumped on the Angels 3-1 in the bottom of the first, and never looked back. The Pirates used a controlled hitting attack, and solid defense to keep the Angels at bay the entire game. Pirate pitcher Bryce Garcia was able to keep the Angles off balance through four innings, until closer Cole Crosby came in and shut the door in the 5th and 6th innings.
Crosby also hit a three run homer over the center field fence in the bottom of the second.
The Angels down, 9-5 in the 6th, threatned a rally by getting their first two men on base, but could not get them around and thats how the game ended. The Angels pitched Brendan Larsen, Cody Milner and Austin Garcia. Both teams are no off until after spring break.
Thursday, March 13 Rookies: Yankees vs. Indians The Rookie Yankees and Indians got together Wednesday night in a classic American League Matchup...Both teams played very well for this early in the season. Both teams had their bats working, but what was so surprising is how good both defenses were. There were several outs at first base, and some nice catches on fly balls. Indians Manager Tom Buck said, "I thought our kids played great, I was really happy about their performance." Wednesday, March 12 Minor A's Hold Off Red Sox Mason Camastro struck out six batters in relief, to get the win as the A's topped the Red Sox 5-4. Jarret Jordan scored two runs and made a spectacular catch in center to pace the A's in the season opener for both teams. Wednesday, March 12 Minor Diamond Backs Win 18-2 The minor Diamondbacks displayed some power in their season opener, beating the Giants 18-2. The Diamondbacks hit well throughout their lineup, and enjoyed a solid 4 inning pithching performance from Adam Garcia. The Diamondbacks are now 1-0, while the Giants fall to 0-2. Tuesday, March 11 A's Route GV Angels The Major A's had high expectations for this season, and in their season opener against the Green Valley Angels the A's proved they are the team to beat. Behind the arm of Keola Paragas, who gave up only one hit through three complete innings, the A's coasted to a 13-0 win in a 4 inning 10 run rule game. The A's hit well throughout the line up, using a steady attack of hits to pile up 13 runs. But it was the defense that made Manager Mick Green very happy. "We played solid defense at every position, and thats what wins games", said Green. A's catcher Jeffrey Hatrack was outstanding behind the plate, throwing two runners out at second base (one on a steal and one on a pick off.) Cade Thomas and Jordan Green played stellar defense on the infield, and Matt Sambol came in to close the game on the mound, taking the Angels down one, two, three.
The A's will be back in action March 25th against the GV Indians.

However, on the next play of the game, Jackson got thrown out going to third. The Red Sox managed to get two more runners on base, but could not bring the tying run home.

Thursday, February 28 Slide or Avoid Rule Many coaches and parents are confused about the slide or avoid rule. Often times in a game you will hear people say that a player should be out because he or she did not slide. Players do not have to slide! They must avoid the defensive player if there is a play being made. A runner can not run over a player that is about to make a tag or catch a ball. However, the player does not have to slide. He just has to avoid contact, and that is only when a play is being made. Runners are never allowed at any time to slide head first into a base when going forward. Runners can get back to a base by diving head first.
Safety is the most important thing on the field. Legacy coaches are asked to teach their kids to slide, however if a player does not slide he is not out and is not breaking the rules...
