The annual “Taste of Summer” fundraiser for the Le Mars Little League was held Saturday January 20, 2018. It was the 23rd year anniversary of this GREAT event which has been sponsored by Bob’s Drive Inn and the American Legion Post 241, the event was originally started by Dan Hoppe, Myles and Roberta Kass, John Britton and the American Legion Post 241 with the purpose of raising funds for the Little League program in Le Mars.
This year’s event was held at Bob’s Drive Inn, we had the Bob’s Drive Inn crew making those wonderful “Bob’s Dogs”, the American Legion providing the delivery, the Little League Board taking care of the serving, and the general public supporting this event, it just proves what can be accomplished when the community comes together. This year, we sold out of 100 dozen “Bob’s Dogs” in just three hours and raised $3,714.50 – bringing the 23rd year total to $78,677.06.
On behalf of the Le Mars Little League, we would like to offer a “special” thank you to Roberta Kass, Nathan and Tana Kass and the entire Kass Family. Along with the Bob’s Drive Inn crew including Charmaine Kass, Dan Hoppe, Dylan Rarrat-Kass, Britney Lorocco, Sami Prieksat, Jenna Prieksat, Steph Williams, Shelia Willaims, Shelby Miller, Helen Webner, Sydney Malke, Marleen Baugous, Leah Ellensohn, Amanda Small and Abbie Vaskie. Thank you to the American Legion Post 241, Commander Wayne Schipper and Gary Konz. Also to SAL #241, Keith Schiltz, Larry Brangwin, Mike Ruhland and the entire American Legion membership for all their help on this 23rd year of the Taste Of Summer.
Thank you also to Casey’s Bakery, Fareway, US Foods, Martin Brothers Distribution, Pepsi-Cola of Siouxland, Legion Riders #241, Dreckman Excavating, KLEM and to The Le Mars Daily Sentinel for their contributions to the fundraiser. Also, thank you to Aaron Rolfes, Steven Husk, Pat Hoebelheinrich, Alyssa Hoebelheinrich, Matt Grosenheider, TJ Buhman, Sophie Buhman Mandy Krohn and Annette Kuiken for working the fundraiser. Thank you as well to anyone who I may have missed.
The support we continue to receive each year from Bob’s Drive Inn, The American Legion, and You – the general public – is very much appreciated.

Sign-ups for the 2018 Le Mars Little League Programs will be:
Monday, March 19th – Thursday, March 22nd
5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Saturday, March 24th
9AM – 2:00 PM
Registrations will be $45 per person if paid by March 24th.
All registrations after March 24th will be $60 per person.

Birth Certificates - Anyone new to the Le Mars Little League program must provide a copy of the players Birth Certificate for proof of age. If the player played in the league in 2017, the certificate should already be on file.
Skills Day for all those involved in the Major Boys, Major Girls, Junior Girls & Junior Boys will be held on Saturday, April 7th at 1:00PM at the John Britton Little League Complex (weather permitting).(Makeup Date April 8th) Games for the Majors & Juniors are scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 5th.
Background Form - All managers, coaches, umpires and board members must fill out a new volunteer application form each year. A social security number and a copy of a drivers’ license is also required with each volunteer application form.
Umpires are also needed for the 2018 season. If you are interested in umpiring this year, please contact TJ Buhman at 540-1477. You need to be at least 16 years old. Pay will be $35 per game for Major Girls, Major Boys & Junior Girls games and $40 per game for Junior Boys games.
