U10 Girls Parent/Kid summer game
On Saturday, August 15, the rising U10 girls and their brave parents played the third of our Parent/Kid game summer series. With a few siblings thrown into the mix, we had around 40 players whom we split into teams and played round robin games. What a lot of fun! It was a great chance for new girls to meet their teammates and for everyone to have a good kick-about. It was also an opportunity for parents who have played to wow us with their skills, and for those who have not played before to experience the game as their daughters do. As one mom commented after, “it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be and certainly harder than it looks.” We have a great group of U10 Girls and we’re looking forward to a super year.

U18 Boys - Patrick Sastre and James Scasserra
James and Patrick
Our very own U18 players Patrick Sastre and James Scasserra made the Florida ODP team. Recently the team traveled to Alabama for the Region camp where they played against a top youth team from Costa Rica as well as other state teams in the 12 state region. Both players saw considerable playing time and represented Florida and Ft. Lauderdale Select FC. As a result, they were both chosen for the Region III pool team. Congratulations Patrick and James!!

U17 Boys Phenomenal Season
The U17 Boys with the help of some great U16s had a phenomenal season. Playing very well and competitively in our first season in the FSPL (Florida State Premier League) and finishing in the middle of the pack against the best teams in the State was quite an accomplishment. We won the W. Pines Tournament in October competing in the U18 division pulling out a thrilling PK victory in the Final over a team that beat us in the qualifying round. In November we again played up in the U18/19 age division at the Plantation Thanksgiving Tournament advancing to the semi-final game after upsetting one of the top 10 teams in the state but falling short to eventual champ, Futsal in an exciting 4-3 loss. In February we advanced to the Final game of the Weston Cup losing to top 10 Coral Gables on PKs. Additionally, this team combined with some U16s went on to win the SFUYSA championship. The exposure to great competition and experience prepared us for a strong run in State Cup where we advanced all the way to the Round of 16 where our efforts fell short in a nail biting 1-0 loss to a top 10 Team Boca team, but also earning this team an automatic entry into FSPL for next season as well as a ton of respect in the state.

U12 Boys Win 2nd Place at the Disney Memorial Day Soccer
U12 Boys Disney
Congratulations to the Fort Lauderdale Select U12 Boys team on their successful run in the Disney Memorial Day Soccer Shootout! They finished 2nd after making the early transition to the 11v11 format of the game and playing some good attacking soccer. They were perfect in group play, scoring twelve goals and conceding three on their way to winning all three games. The semi-final was a hard fought contest against a higher ranked Tamp Bay United, but the boys fought back from being down twice to win 3-2 in regulation. The final pitted us against a dominant Miramar United team who blew past all their opponents thus far. The boys again showed great heart and claimed a late equalizer to take the game to extra-time at 1-1, then succumbed to a late winner in the second and final period. The coaches and parents are extremely proud of the character and teamwork of the team and look forward to their success at the next level!

U9 Girls Finish Season with Great Success
U9 Girls
We are so proud of the progress the U9 Girls team has made over this past season. With over half the team only having played recreationally previously, we had a long way to go to catch up to our competition. But the girls worked hard and finished the season with several tangible successes. They were Finalists in the Classic Division of the West Pines Tournament, Finalists in the Silver Division of the Weston Cup, Champions of the South Florida Cup and Champions of the Miami Select Cup. More importantly, the girls have progressed significantly with their individual skills, tactical teamwork and overall knowledge of the game, all while having lots of fun along the way.

U15 Girls Finish Season Strong
The U15 Select Girls suffered some season-ending injuries, but went undefeated prior to that time, and still finished with one of the best records in the league. Next year they expect to win their League and advance further in State Cup than they ever have before.

U9 Girls take First and Second Place at Miami Select Cup
U9 Girls
The U9 Girls entered 2 mixed teams into the Miami Select Cup and had a fantastic tournament. Each team prevailed in both of their first two group games before meeting each other in the third game. The “Blue” team won that intensely-contested game 5-4, setting up a grudge match between the two teams as they both qualified for the Finals. From a Coach’s perspective, it couldn’t have been scripted any better as the “White” team won that game 2-1, essentially creating a tie between the teams, with all the girls winners. Even better, with their coach not wanting to be biased in those games, there was no sideline instruction at all, forcing the girls to manage themselves (including who was going to take a penalty) and they did splendidly, encouraging and coaching themselves. Congratulations to both teams: Ade, Ashtyn, Caroline, Elena, Elizabeth, Genesis, Katerina, Lily, Lulu, Olivia M., Olivia O., Samantha, Valentina, Violet R., Violet Z. and Zoey.

The U10 Blue team also won a tournament, the 2015 Wellington Shoot Out.

U12 Girls- Receive Finalist medals at the Palm Beach Cup
U12 Girls -palm beach
Congratulations Ft. Lauderdale Select U12 girls for a very successful Palm Beach Cup. After breezing through their first game in pool play winning 4-1 against the 66th ranked team in the state, the team showed their true medal against the 24th ranked team in the state. Despite the difference in size and weight of their opponent, they showed their skill and strength of character in a very physical game which they dominated despite allowing a late tying goal. Nursing injuries and aches they won their final pool game to advance to the finals. With very little left in the tank and lingering injuries, the team played with quality and heart in the finals but could not overcome the physical nature of the game. The coaches and parents are extremely proud of these valiant players and know that they have a very bright future.

U9 Girls Blue Team Wins South Florida Cup
U9 Girls-Win-SFL Cup
The U9 Girls Blue Team won the South Florida Cup by playing some of their best soccer to date. After winning 7-0, 5-2 and 5-1 in group play, the girls faced an undefeated team in the Final. Even controlling the game throughout the first half, they were only up 1-0 at halftime. At halftime we discussed how we needed to keep possessing the same way but needed more penetration in the final third of the field. Boy did they deliver! 5 great goals in the second half was the result of excellent passing and ball movement, including through balls and give-and-gos, which inevitably wore down our opponents. We moved the ball from side to side, passed back to defenders, switched the point of attack, crossed balls to correctly-positioned teammates and were direct to goal when appropriate, all while defending intelligently and with solid goalkeeping. A truly dominating performance in the second half as the girls prevailed 6-0. Congratulations Blue Team (Ade, Ashtyn, Caroline, Genesis, Jade, Lily, Samantha and Violet) on a well-deserved first tournament championship!
