The final had a very hard fought championship game against Team Boca, with Select coming from behind to tie the score at 2-2 in regulation. The game ended with a loss in penalty kicks 4-3. Congratulations to our U-13 girls team which became the first Fort Lauderdale Select team to advance to the round of 16 in the State Championship Tournament. The girls had a great game against Space Coast #3 in state) in the semi final round before falling 2-1.
There are over 200 teams that play competitive soccer in each age group and advancing to the final 16 in the state is a great achievement. The U-13 girls went undefeated in six games in the first two rounds of the tournament and only gave up 3 goals during their impressive run to the round of 16. This is only the second year we had teams that were old enough to play in the State Cup and to have a team make it to the final 16 while competing against the biggest programs in the state is something all of the coaches, and players in the club should be very proud of.

The U14 boys continued their strong spring play, making the finals of 4 straight tournaments, including the tough Weston, West Pines and Miami Lakes events. In January, The Select U14 Boys played in the Wellington Soccer Shootout. After breezing through the qualifying stage games beating Davie United, Plantation Predator and Okeeheelee Heat The Select lost championship match to Coral Springs United. In February, the U14 Boys won 4 games at the Weston Cup, soundly beating Plantation , Kendall Soccer Club, Soccer Paradise and Key Biscayne to advance to the finals losing to tournament host Weston in the final seconds of the championship game by a score of 2-1. In April, the U14 Boys played in the Miami Lakes Spring Shootout shutting out the competition in the qualifying stage. The team advanced to the championship game falling short to Cutler Ridge in a hard fought match by a score of 2-1. These significant accomplishments show the progress under Coach Earle as the team climbs the state rankings. We look forward to big things from them at Disney in May.

The u14 girls continues their strong play with coach Fenger, reaching the tournament finals at Wellington. Playing in the FLUGSA premier division, the girls were the only team to be both of the top 2 teams in the division, before being knocked out in the semifinals. They played tough in state cup playing two top 10 opponents. The girls have high hopes for Disney at the end of the month.

Congratulations to all of our girls teams who just finished up the West Pine Tournament. Three of our five teams made it to the finals of their respective divisions. The only other club with more teams in the finals was West Pines, as both Fort Lauderdale Select and Weston had three teams in the finals. That's nice company considering the size of those two clubs.
The three teams that made it to the finals were our U-9 team, U-12 team and U-13 team. Congratulations to all players and coaches on the excellent performance.
