Bulldogs upend no. 1 seed to advance in playoffs
Lanier County (21-7)  played well again on the road and advance to the third round of the State Playoffs with a sweep of Region 4A Champion, Treutlen County, 7-6 and 5-4 in the second round of the State Playoffs to advance to the Elite Eight. Nathan Bass survived some shaky defense in the first three innings as Lanier made five errors to give the Vikings five unearned runs. Bass went 5 2/3 innings allowing 5 hits and no walks. Lanier scored in the first on a single by Lucky, who later stole second. Derek White moved him to third on a grounder to second. Lucky scored on a sac by Allen to take a 1-0 lead. Lanier made it 2-0 as Jake Purvis singled and stole second base. He later scored on an RBI single by Gloster. After more Bulldog errors, Truetlen took a 4-2 lead. Lanier cut the lead to 4-3 after Greg Sealey singled and scored on a RBI double by Nathan Bass. A base running mistake cost Lanier another run. In the 6th inning, Lanier trailed 6-4 when they scored three times (Purvis, Gloster, White) to take a 7-6 lead. Ryan Allen retired the side in the 7th to preserve the win. Nathan Bass and Lucky had two hit apiece in the game. In game two, Ryan Allen cruised through the first four innings with 8 K's. Tied 0-0 Ethan Mcrae hit a solo homerun to put Lanier up 1-0. One inning later, Lucky and West hit back to back homerus to put Lanier up 4-0. Ethan Mcrae and Greg Sealey doubled in the 5th to make it 5-0. Ryan Allen walked a batter and hit one after a 2 out single before the Vikings came roaring back with a 300 foot gandslam homerun to cut the lead to 5-4. The ball hit off of West's glove and bounced over. Ryan Allen went the rest of the way to seal a 5-4 win. Offensively, Mcrae and West were both 2 for 3 with Homeruns. Ryan White was 2 for 2 with a walk. BJ Lucky also added another homerun for Lanier.
