Lakeside Longhorns Football & Cheer: FAQ
Practices start the first week of August. The regular season begins in early September and runs through mid November. Post-season competition may continue into early December.
How often are practices?
Teams will practice 4 nights per week in August and go to 3 nights a week from September on.
When and where are the games?
Games are played on Saturdays. Lakeside Longhorns home games will be played at El Capitan High School. We will visit locations throughout San Diego County. For a list of playing fields, please see the Locations section of the website.
Do I need to buy my own equipment and uniforms?
Lakeside Longhorns Football provides all the equipment and game uniforms for Football players. Players must provide their own practice pants, practice jersey, girdle and cleats.
Cheer uniforms are purchase at time of registration.
Is the equipment safe?
The equipment is inspected every year. It is a requirement of any helmet maker that all helmets are tested and certified each year to insure the kids safety. We replace helmets after their manufacture's warranty expires which is normally 5 years.
What about the physical?
It is required that every participant have a physical before they can step on the field. There is a standardized form that MUST be used for every physical. These form are available online in the FORMS page or by contacting Lakeside Youth Football.
What is the Little Scholars program?
Pop Warner recognizes that kids need to excel in the classroom as well as the playing field. Each participant is required to produce report cards from the previous year to prove playing worthiness. Kids must maintain a 2.00 GPA to participate. Those children with a 4.00 or higher may be eligable for scholarships provide through the Pop Warner organization. Contact The League for more information.
My son/daughter has other commitments and may not be able to make all practices. Can I still sign them up?
Football and Cheer are both TEAM activities. When your child misses a practice it will affect other kids and therefore is detrimental to the TEAM. Failure to attend practice may result in your child not being able to participate on game day.
