Lakers Win Sheldon Tournament
The Lakers won the Sheldon Tournament this past weekend, defeating the Crater Comets 48-29 on Friday and the Sheldon Irish 43-40 on Saturday. The Saturday game was particularly exciting. The Lakers fell behind early and trailed by 7 points at the half. The Laker defense held Sheldon scoreless in the third quarter and the Lakers took an 8 point lead into the final period. Sheldon fought back and managed to tie the game with about a minute to play. Robyn Barton hit a short baseline jumper with just over 20 seconds to play to give the Lakers a two point lead. The Sheldon point guard was fouled with 6 seconds to play and hit two free throws to again tie the game. The Lakers then beat the Sheldon press by hitting Tara Wical streaking up the middle of the court. Wical launched a 30 foot runner just before the buzzer sounded. The shot banked off the glass and fell through giving the Lakers a 3 point win.

Lakers Advance to Round of 16
The Lakers defeated a very tough Redmond team 68 - 53 on the road Wednesday to advance in the play-offs. The game at Redmond was high school basketball at its best. The gym was packed by a noisy but well-behaved crowd, the game was played at a torrid pace, and the officiating was excellent.

The Lakers were unaccustomed to Redmond's very up tempo style of play. LO was stunned in the opening minutes and fell behind by 10 points in the first quarter. The Lakers adjusted in the second quarter and slowly turned the game around, tying the contest at the intermission. In the second half the Lakers gradually built a lead and went on to win by 15. It was a great effort by both teams.

The Lakers leave Friday afternoon for Medford where they will play the North Medford Black Tornado on Saturday evening. North Medford tied with Ashland for first place in the SOC. They have a season record of 21 - 3. They looked very impressive at the Interstate Shootout where they finished 5th, losing only to Lakeridge. North Medford will be hampered somewhat, however, by the unfortunate loss of their outstanding senior point guard, Kailey Bostwick, who went down with a knee injury earlier this week.

Lakers Beat Benson
The Lakers beat the Benson Techsters Monday night in a game that resembled a free throw shooting contest. Both teams committed a lot of fouls which made for a very long contest. The Lakers led by only 10 at the half, but outscored Benson 26-8 in the third quarter to blow the game open. Poor outside shooting by the Lakers was offset by outstanding rebounding that led to many second chance points.

The Lakers' next game will be on Tuesday, December 14 against their crosstown rivals, the Lakeridge Pacers. Lakeridge is currently ranked 2nd in the state. The Lakers and Pacers split their two meetings last year.

Saturday, December 4
Lakers Upset Sheldon
The 5th ranked Lakers upset the 4th ranked Sheldon Irish in Eugene Saturday evening by a score of 47 - 37. The Irish had to be considered the favorites going into the game as they were returning most of their starters from last year's team, which finished 3rd in the state tournament. The Lakers, on the other hand, lost four senior starters to graduation and were having to learn a completely new system under their new coach. In the game, the Lakers started slowly and struggled on offense throughout the first half. They trailed by 7 at the break. LO turned things around in the 3rd quarter, however. Sparked by strong defense and rebounding, the Lakers outscored the Irish 29 - 12 in the second half to win going away.
