THREE LADY JACKETS MAKE THE KYGCA 9TH REGION ALL-REGION TEAM



  Today, the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association(KYGCA) announced their end of year recognition awards and three members of the Williamsburg Lady Jackets golf team made the Region 9 All-Region Team.  Senior Becky Sharpe, Sophomore Kaylee Akins and Freshman Beth Jervis all made the team.  Becky Sharpe was also named Region 9 Player of the Year and placed third in the Kentucky Player of the Year voting.  Williamsburg Head Coach Jeff Sharpe was named Region 9 Coach of the Year and placed third in the Kentucky Coach of the Year voting as well.

Emma Talley of Caldwell County was named the Kentucky Player of the Year and Coach Leslie Bender of Sacred Heart Academy was named Kentucky Coach of the Year.

LADY JACKETS FINISH 3RD AT KHSAA STATE TOURNAMENT

The Lady Jackets traveled to Bowling Green Country Club to compete in the team's second consecutive appearance to the KHSAA State Tournament. The Lady Jackets shot their two highest scores of the year and still finished 3rd overall.  The team was in 5th place after the first day after shooting a dissapointing 347 total.  The team held steady the second day as other teams struggled to maintain their spots.  The team shot a second round 346 to finish 3rd overall only one shot behind second place and two-time defending champions Green County.    

Senior Becky Sharpe led the Lady Jackets, shooting 81-74 with a two-day total of 155.  Becky placed 7th overall individually and was her third top-ten finish in five trips to the State Tournament.  Freshman Beth Jervis shot 86-87 for a two-day total 173 and finished tied for 34th individually.   Sophomore Kaylee Akins shot 88-89 for a two-day total 177 and finished tied for 44th individually.  Sophomore Julia Higginbotham shot 92-96 for a two-day total 188 and Sophomore Kacie Cox shot 106-104 for a two-day total 210.

LADY JACKETS WIN 2011 KHSAA 9TH REGION TITLE

The Lady Jackets traveled to Burnside Island Golf Course today to compete in this year's KHSAA 9th Region Tournament. The Lady Jackets broke thru all barriers and won the school's first girls region golf title.   They finished with an impressive team total 324 and beat out defending region champs Russell County by 18 strokes.   Russell County had beaten the Lady Jackets by one stroke for the 2010 region title.  

   Senior Becky Sharpe won individual honors by shooting a 1-over par 72 and winning her second straight 9th region individual title.   Freshman Beth Jervis stepped up big for the "Big Orange" and fired a 5-over par 76 and tied her personal best tournament score.  Beth took second place individual honors after birdieing the first hole of a sudden death playoff against Pulaski County's Elsa Moberly.  Sophomore Kaylee Akins shot a 14-over par 85 and finished tied for 11th overall.  Sophomore Julia Higginbotham shot 91 for her career best region score and Sophomore Kacie Cox finished her career best region score of 108.

The team will now prepare for the 2011 KHSAA State Tournament held on October 7th & 8th at Bowling Green CC in Bowling Green KY.

The Lady Jackets traveled to Connemara Golf Course in Nicholasville KY this weekend to compete in the West Jessamine Invitational Tournament. The Lady Jackets finished third overall with a team score of 344.  Senior Becky Sharpe led the team and finished 7th individually by shooting an 8-over par 79.   Sophomore Kaylee Akins shot 83. Freshman Beth Jervis shot 88.  Sophomore Julia Higginbotham shot 94 and Sophomore Kacie Cox finished with a 112.  Lydia Gumm of North Hardin won the overall individual title after shooting a 1 under par 70.  The team will now prepare for the 9th Region Tournament held on Wednesday Sept 28th at Burnside Golf Course where the Lady Jackets finished second last year to Russell County by one shot.

LADY JACKETS WIN 2nd INVITATIONAL OF THE SEASON



The Lady Jackets traveled to Eagle Creek Golf Course in Crittenden KY this weekend to compete in the 15th Annual Tom Johnson Grant County Classic Tournament.    The Lady Jackets played very well on a difficult course, had three players place in the top ten, finished the day in first place and shot a very good team score of 319.  This is the Lady Jackets second invitational tournament win and third win overall this season.  

Senior Becky Sharpe led the team and finished 2nd individually after a playoff by shooting a 2-over par 74.  Freshman Beth Jervis, finished fourth overall and shot her individual personal best tournament score of 76.   Sophomore Kaylee Akins, finished ninth overall and shot 83. Sophomore Julia Higginbotham, finishing 12th overall, played well and shot 86.  Sophomore Kacie Cox finished with a 108.  

Megan Theiss of Oldham County won the overall individual title after shooting a 2 over par 74 and winning in a playoff against Lady Jacket Becky Sharpe. 

The team continues to improve throughout the season and is currently ranked third in the state after a mid-season coaches poll by the KY Golf Coaches Association(kygca.org).

LADY JACKETS FINISH 2ND IN ALL-A CLASSIC STATE CHAMPIONSHIP



The Lady Jackets traveled to the Silo's Golf and Country Club in Paducah this weekend to compete in the 2011 Kentucky Touchstone Energy All-A Classic State Golf Championship.    The Lady Jackets played very well and placed as first runner-up, finishing only 11 shots behind 2-time defending KHSAA state champions Green County.   The Lady Jackets again broke the school team scoring record by shooting a team total 317.  Besting the previous record by 2 shots set just two weeks ago at the Kentucky Invitational(319).  The team continues to improve throughout the season and is still ranked among the very best in the state.   

Senior Becky Sharpe led the team and finished 2nd individually by shooting an even par 72.  Freshman Beth Jervis shot her individual personal best tournament score of 79.    Sophomore Kaylee Akins fired a round of 80. Sophomore Julia Higginbotham played well to shoot 86 and Kacie Cox finished with a 104.  

Cassidy Scantland of Green County was the low individual medalist with a round of 4-under par 68.  Stacy Schepers of Owensboro Catholic finished third with a 2-over par 74.

LADY JACKETS BREAK SCHOOL RECORD AGAIN AND FINISH 3rd AT KY INVITATIONAL



The Lady Jackets finished 3rd today at the 2011 Kentucky Invitational Tournament at Lakewood Golf Course in Russell Springs.  The Lakewood Golf Course played to a par 70 and a very short 4800 yards. The Lady Jackets finished with another school record team total of 319.   Senior Becky Sharpe led the team in scoring with a 1-under par 69 and finished tied for 2nd individually.  Kaylee Akins played well and shot a 5-over par 75 and finished 8th individually.  Beth Jervis shot 83 and tied her personal best tournament score.  Julia Higginbothan shot 92 and Kacie Cox shot a 107.  

Glasgow won the team competition with a team score of 311 followed by Russell County at 317.  North Hardin's Lydia Gumm won the individual title with an impressive 9-under par 61.

The Lady Jackets finished 3rd today at the 2011 Central Hardin Invitational against a strong field and tough course.  The Lindsey Golf Course in Ft. Knox played to a par 73 and 5800 yards.  The Lady Jackets finished with a season high team total of 347.   Senior Becky Sharpe led the team in scoring with a 3-over par 76.  Beth Jervis shot 84, one shot shy of her personal best tournament score(83).  Kaylee Akins shot an 88.  Julia Higginbothan shot 99 and Kacie Cox shot a 113.

Sacred Heart Academy won the team competition with a team score of 331 followed by Glasgow with a 345.

North Hardin's Lydia Gumm won the individual title with a 4-under par 69.

LADY JACKETS WIN 1ST INVITATIONAL AT THE PULASKI COUNTY INVITATIONAL



The Lady Jackets got their first ever invitational tournament win today by winning the 2011 Pulaski County Invitational.  The team shot a team total 325 and tied the school record set the previous weekend where the Lady Jackets placed third at the Shelby County Invtational.  WHS also picked up the individual title when senior Becky Sharpe eased by North Hardin's Lydia Gumm in the last few holes to win by one shot.  Becky shot a one over par 73 to win her second Pulaski Invitational individual title in the last three years.  Sophomore Kaylee Akins came up big for the "Big Orange", shot a career low 75 and placed tied for fourth individually.  Beth Jervis played steady to shoot a 12 over par 84.  Julia Higginbotham shot 93 and Kacie Cox shot 109.

LADY JACKETS BREAK SCHOOL RECORD AND FINISH 3rd AT SHELBY COUNTY INVITATIONAL



The Lady Jackets traveled to Shelbyville to compete in the Shelby County Invitational today and broke the WHS scoring record.  The team shot a team total 325 and broke the school record by 4 shots.  Sacred Heart won the team title with a very impressive team total score of 301.  Henry Clay finished second with a score of 324.   The Lady Jackets finished 3rd. 

Senior Becky Sharpe led the Lady Jackets with an even par 72 and finished T2 individually.   Kaylee Akins shot 82.  Julia Higginbotham shot her lowest career high school tournament score of 85 and Beth Jervis shot 86.   Kacie Cox also shot her lowest career tournament score of 104. 

Megan Kinney of Western Hills won the individual title with a one under par 71.

LADY JACKETS WIN 5TH STRAIGHT ALL-A REGION TITLE

KAYLEE AKINS - 2011 ALL-A REGION MEDALIST

The Lady Jackets won their fifth straight All-A 13th Region Team Championship today with a total team score of 360.  Kaylee Akins led the Jackets and won her first individual high school tournament title with a individual score of 81.  Beth Jervis placed third individually and shot 83, Julia Higginbotham placed fourth individually and shot 88.   Kacie Cox shot 108 and Morgan Owens shot 155.

Kristen Ingle from Barbourville placed 2nd individually with a score of 82. 

The tournament was held at Indian Springs Country Club in Barbourville and Barbourville High School hosted this year's region tournament.

The Lady Jackets now advance to the 2011 All-A State Tournament to be held Sept.10 at Silo Golf Course in Paducah.
