In the upcoming fall we will only be allowed to play in an 11v11 format as a U13 team(s). However, U13 teams may also compete in State League Division I. Division I teams may qualify for Regional Tournaments. In the past we have been able to compete at multiple levels and have formed teams to best accommodate those levels of play. Though we have never formally used the term, in many ways we have operated similar to an academy format adopted by many clubs. This allowed us to be very competitive while providing an environment for players to develop their skills and tactics. Not everyone develops at the same pace, but with dedication and effort many players can contribute at higher levels over time. This has been happening within our Lady Freedom teams. We were able to do this by staying very close to an optimum number of players though some of the time we had to double roster players more than we desired. Fall 2009 we will need to pick up enough additional quality players to maintain two teams or we will have to be right sized for one team. Other teams will be in the same situation as they move from the 8v8 format to 11v11. Please let us know if you hear plans for other teams. For two teams we believe that 25 players are near optimum. If we maintain two teams with a total player count of 25, we foresee the following:Two distinct rosters of (one team with 12 players and the other with 13)Both teams participate in the state league; one at Div I the other at Div IINormally, a player may only play one additional game with the other team and in only one tournament with the other team (exceptions would be allowed if for some reason the normal player count of the other team were down) If we have enough players for only one team, the right number is approximately 15 or 16 players.
