Congratulations Ladyhawks On Another Job Well Done!
Despite being decimated by the flu bug, the Ladyhawks dug deep and clawed their way to a SECOND PLACE finish in the Freestate Shootout, Capitol Cup Tournament.
The Ladyhawks entered this weekend's tournament looking to get some much needed tune up work, prior to this seasons move into the Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS) U-17 Division. However, with cold and windy conditions and many of our girls running high fevers, it started as a struggle to just field a complete eleven-player team.
The Ladyhawks were without their star goalkeeper, as well as several other key players. As a result, this forced the Ladyhawks to rotate many players to unfamiliar positions. Despite these difficulties and lack of continuity, the Ladyhawks succeeded in scoring the most goals in their U-19 (Chester flight). Division. The Ladyhawks were also the only team to score on the DC Stoddert Strikers, who recorded shutouts against all their other opponents.
We as coaches, are EXTREMELY PROUD of all our girls for their tenacity and willingness to step up to a challenge and never back down. Having just come off a championship season, you continue to prove that: “Being a champion is NOT an act of deeds. It is an attitude of never accepting less than giving your ALL”.
Lastly, What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
Thank you ladies for continuing to prove what lies within you! GO LADYHAWKS!
