Founding of Lynn Youth Lacrosse
Lynn Youth Lacrosse was founded in 1997 by Steve Kiley, a Lynn resident and attorney. Steve attended Cornell University in upstate New York where he was first exposed to the sport of lacrosse. In 1996 he noticed a sign-up for Saugus Youth Lacrosse and enrolled his son, Teddy. Teddy had such a great experience playing organized lacrosse that Steve decided to start a program in Lynn. With the help of John Morris, the Saugus director, and Jay Williams of Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse, the parent organization, Lynn Youth Lacrosse got off the ground in 1997. Most, but not all, of the initial players were from Lynn Youth Hockey.
The program has grown steadily to the point where Lynn Youth Lacrosse now fields three teams, one each in the under 10, under 12, and under 14 levels. There is no doubt that Lynn Youth Lacrosse was the impetus for the three Lynn public schools to start their programs.
There are approximately 150 youths now playing lacrosse in Lynn, at both the youth league and high school level.
