Wildcats

The Liberty DI Pee Wee champs took on the Bux-mont champs in a game that prove to be a nail biter until the ladder part of the 4th quarter. Frankford had there chances in the first half when they failed on scoring opportunity from the 10 and the 20 yardline. But in the 4th quarter Methacton found the opening and plugged away, finishing the Chargers off 14 - 0

In the secord Liberty contest of the day, Enon took on our neighbors to the West, the Delco YAP Trojans. The Trojans intercepted a pass to travel 35 yards for the first score. Enon, unshakened drove the ball down the field to score and tie the game 6-6. After a fumble, the Trojans traveled 20 yards to take the lead back, but late in the 3rd the Eagles scored, but failed on the extra point 12-13. In the forth quarters the Eagles sealed the deal winning 18 - 13

On Sunday the Mustangs opened the day, by halftime score favored the Mustangs 19 - 6. But Marsh Creek stormed back defeating the Mustangs 20 - 19

Will not much to say here, the defending DIII champs moved up in Division II in masterful fashion. The halftime score was 31 - 0. The Wildcats finish the Dukes off 38 - 0.

The Champs Are Crowned

From the Member of the Liberty Youth Athletic Association Board we would like to say Thank You.  Without the help of our many members, this weekend's events would not have ran smoothly.   Congratulation is in order: Enon Eagles & Philly Mustangs Capture their first ever LYAA Championships, and both won two.Coach Larry Varns (90lb Aztecs) and Kern Robinson (105lb Aztecs) continue to show their dominants on the Mitey Mite and Jr Pee Wee divisions by capturing their fifth straight LYAA championship.   In the ruining seconds of the Pee Wee game Cliff Smith captured his first LYAA championship in four tries.  First year 160 lb Head Coach Rasheed Muhammad took home the trophy, in a GREAT game between the Gators

Finally, in the 75 lb division, former Raiders alumni and coach seal the deal and captured the trophy for the Blackhawks over the Raiders.

In saving the best for last: The Sharks finish the regular season in third place to capture the Jr. Midget Championship.

Frankford fields getting an extreme makeover

Bill Mural
The fields at William Gambrell Playground, home of the Frankford Chargers youth football program, had basically turned into dirt. It was trashed with rocks and glass, and the goal posts were lopsided, 3-inch plumbing pipes.

The team had been suffering from a lack of funds, and couldn't afford a good-looking field.

But things are about to improve in a big way at the playground, at Wakeling and Ditman streets.

Tomorrow, the team will celebrate the opening of a new, first-class field, with new fencing, goal posts and a new mural.

Comcast-Spectacor, the Eagles, and the city - among other donors - contributed $1 million in materials and services to improve the field, including an artificial-turf playing surface. Mayor Street and Gov. Rendell have also pledged their support.

Artists from Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program created the mural, which includes images of the current Frankford Chargers team and its expansion team, the Frankford Yellow Jackets.

The new Fox network show "Extreme Field Makeover" will record theproject. The show is aimed at American communities that have renovated fields in need of refurbishing. *
