Eclipse Blinds Blue’s Ambition
Blue fell out of the regionals in Dallas, today after a goal in injury time sunk them as they pressed for the winner they needed and once again a lack of clinical finishing in front of goal cost them.
It was a very quiet first half as Eclipse were happy to hold onto the ball and try and suck LRFC in. They almost did after ten minutes as they got behind them but the cross although dangerous no one was able to punish Blue for it. The game changed when Sparks used his power and pace to get to the byline and pull the ball back to Silvestri who hit the keeper with his effort and it came back to him and again he hit the keeper again. Eclipse returned to their passing ball retention style and as Blue kept their shape and they were unable to break them down and despite a couple of free kicks by LRFC there no further clear chances for them to score.
Strangely enough Blue played much better into the stiff breeze and had almost taken the lead after Ireland swung the ball in from a corner on the right, Cooner met it and it hit the post and went to the keeper. All of a sudden Eclipse looked vulnerable and Ihmeidan carved a path through the defense but keeper was able to slide out and block his shot. Ireland was next to come close after he cut them open, again the keeper was able to slide and block it. Wretched luck continued in front of goal as Eclipse were now stretched to the limit. It was header at the back post by Reed after another Ireland corner that went wide though Fancher seemed better placed head it. Womack after a free kick into the box was not cleared swung and missed with moments left. An even better chance came when Sparks reverse pass put Scharff away but a poor touch allowed the keeper to once again come and block. Now having pushed numbers forward they were undone in the final minute of injury time and despite the best effort of Cooner and Maxwell the forward found the bottom corner and give Eclipse the victory. In a brief interview after the game the Eclipse coach stated “you killed us” but no solace for Blue.
