Blue Unable To Topple CASL Ramparts
Despite being the better team LRFC that were unable to garnish their play deserved thanks in no small part to some stellar goalkeeping and goals that used their force fields to repel the ball.Blue started well and the first chance came when after a great free kick by Ireland flicked on by Scharff to Beltran who arrived the back post to fire home only for the keeper to reach back behind him and prevent it from crossing the line. Another miraculous save came after good play on the left saw Ireland deliver the ball to the front post and Scharff’s deft touch seemed destined for the back of the net as the keeper went the wrong way only then for his foot to knock it clear. As Blue continued to press a scramble in front of the net after the keeper had palmed the ball away somehow found the knee of a defender in front of goal who knew very little about it. Needless to say a sting the tail was coming and it came in from the left after one of CASL’s rare attacks, the Blue defender couldn’t get a definite touch away, but right onto the head of the forward who headed it in from close range.
All credit to Blue now with the wind didn’t let their heads drop and continued to go after their opponents however, the goal continued to lead a charmed life. An early free kick from distance went over the bar from Hart. Ihmeidan then had one that was well wide. Then Dayer had one blocked and a second that also went over. Dayer again when well placed should have worked the keeper but missed the goal at the near post. LRFC almost were hit with the sucker punch as CASL got behind Blue after Maxwell charged from the line, the ball was fired in and was blocked in front of goal by Womack. Back up the other end as LRFC got a chance again and Ireland’s outside of the foot curler pinged off the post with keeper for once well beaten. It was starting to look as if the goal Blue deserved would never come but it did when Ihmeidan picked the ball in the middle of the park drove for goal and fired it the bottom corner from twenty five yards. Hart almost got in but a superb tackle prevented him from getting his shot away and soon after cutting from the left edge of the box he fired a dart straight at the keeper. CASL were out on the feet and resorted to firing the ball away every chance they could and Blue couldn’t carve out another chance to win the game.
