Playing Time Policy in Games There are typically no rules in any select soccer leagues, including the NCSL, that mandate the amount of playing time in games that each player must receive. However, as coaches, our goals are to develop players, maximize playing time, and to be successful. The criteria we use to determine the amount of game time each player receives is based on a number of factors. These factors are, but are not limited to, (1) on-time attendance at practices and games (2) attentiveness (3) attitude/behavior (4) player developmental needs (5) on-field performance (6) work ethic (7) desire (8) aggressiveness (9) emotional maturity (10) behavior (11) conditioning (12) game situations In order to better prepare players for high school competition and beyond, starting in the U14 Fall season a greater emphasis will placed on competition for playing time through the expansion of team roster size over previous seasons. Criteria for earning playing time will still be based on those factors listed above
