Think OUTSIDE the Box
Expand the strike zone
There are two main reasons to practice to expand the strike zone.
1. HITTERS swing at pitches in those areas
2. UMPIRES will call strikes there as well.
When practicing pitching in the strike zone, exspand the area to six inches on either side of the plate, six inches in the dirt behind the plate, and chest high. This visually increases the strike zone for more attainable results.
We practice using the FASTBALL & CURVEBALL TRIANGLES
in order to think outside the box

Think!!!
Take a "thinking" approach to practice. Every drill has a purpose. Know what it is and concentrate on improving each skill.
Don't just throw a ball onto a tee and swing a bat. Carefully place the ball on the tee and aim to hit a certain part. Think of a situation, imagine the pitch and hit the ball to the proper part of the field.
When practicing defense, imagine the situation and how you would handle it...if the ball is hit in the air, where do I throw...if the ball is hit on the ground, who's the cut off man?
If you're practicing pitching, again, imagine a situation and pitch accordingly...I'm down 3-0, I need to throw a strike...I'm up 0-2, what's the catcher calling for off-speed, high heat or does he want the ball thrown off the plate?
If you practice your "Baseball Thinking", it won't be something new to you in the big game.

CONTROLLING YOUR ON-FIELD ANXIETY.
All things being equal between 2 players (size, athleticism, potential, aptitude) it is the ability to minimize anxiety and fear that will make the difference in performance. The following are Tips that can help improve the on-field performance of all players.
* Stop thinking in a negative way- Eliminate DON'T and WON'T. "Don't give up!", "I won't strike out, I won't make an error, I don't want to miss this guys fastball." We tend to think visually and the mind cannot envision negative words like don't and won't. So instead of "I won't strike out" the mind "sees" "I strike out."
Instead of NEGATIVE think in positive terms, "I will hit the ball hard, I will field the ball cleanly, that fastball will not get by me."
* EXHALE Release your negative thoughts and breath in slowly and deeply. Oxygen is the body's tranquilizer and gives you a good chance to relax. (Besides, no one has to know your doing it.)
* SMILE Another way to relax. It takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown.
* Choose to be Positive. Choose to be happy. Baseball is fun. CHOOSE You are in control.
* Eliminate things over which you have no control; the weather, the crowd, the umpires, etc.
