Wildcats Place 5th at IBVCA State Championships

The Lawrence North Wildcats battled on Saturday at the IBVCA State Championships.  They battled a tough Center Grove team in the state quarterfinals, losing in four tough sets, 26-24, 14-25, 15-25, 19-25.

 

 
Seniors Austin Meng, Lance Fulling, Breck Wiener and Will Merritt were recognized as Senior All-Stars, and Merritt and Josh Hannan were awarded with Academic All-State awards.

2011 State Draw Set
Team HuddleThe draw is now set for the 2011 IBVCA state championships on May 28th at Southport High School. LNMVBC will face off against the #5 seed Center Grove in the quarterfinal round at 12:30 pm. In other action, Carmel will play Southport and Hebron will play Hamilton Southeastern at 11:00 am. In the other 12:30 match, Hebron will play Cathedral. Semifinals are scheduled for a 3:00 pm start, and the championship will be played at 5:00 pm. Before the championship match, post season awards will be presented. For more information about the draw, please visit the IBVCA website. About the Match-up: LNMVBC enters the state finals with a record of 20-11 while Center Grove holds a season mark of 12-5. Center Grove holds a 6-5 lifetime record over LNMVBC and won a 5 set marathon against LNMVBC on May 3. Center Grove is making their 11th appearance in the state championships while LNMVBC is making their 4th. The two teams have met in the state finals each of the last two years, with the Trojans winning in 2009 and the Wildcats winning in 2010.

Congratulations Class of 2011

The Class of 2011--Lance Fulling, Breck Wiener, Will Merritt, Terrell Jones, Anthony Mulryan, Michael Dale, Austin Meng, Josh Hannan, and Sly Rowe--graduated on Wednesday night in a private cermony at the school. Congratulations and good luck at state!

After the ceremony, Breck Wiener and Austin Meng signed their letters of intent to Adrian College in Michigan.  Congratulations Breck and Austin!

LNMVBC beats Wapahani

The fourth-ranked LNMVBC improved to 18-8 this season by defeating Wapahani on the road, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15.

The LNMBVC JV also record a straight-set win, 25-19, 25-14.

Sensational Senior Night!

The nine LNMVBC seniors players made their final regular-season home match a memorable one with a sweep of #7 Cathedral, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.

Seniors Michael Dale, Lance Fulling, Josh Hannan, Terrell Jones, Austin Meng, Will Merritt, Anthony Mulryan, Sly Rowe, and Breck Wiener delivered an impressive performance to improve the LNMVBC record to 17-7 this season.

Lance Fulling had 13 kills, a solo block, and 1 dig.
Breck Wiener had 3 kills, a solo block, 31 assists, 2 digs, and 1 ace.
Will Merritt had 5 kills, a solo block, 12 digs, and 2 aces.
Terrell Jones had 1 assist and 12 digs.
Anthony Mulryan had 1 assist.

Austin Meng had 5 kills and 2 digs.

#4 LNMVBC dropped a marathon decision to sixth-ranked Center Grove, 19-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 15-10.

LNMVBC swept Bishop Chatard on the road, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14.

Lance Fulling had 3 aces.

LNMVBC sweeps #10 Southport

LNMVBC (5-3) recorded its second victory against a Top 10 team in the 2011 campaign with a 28-26, 25-19, 25-18 win at #10 Southport.  Senior setter Breck Wiener handed out 26 assists and added two service aces.  Senior middle hitter Austin Meng recorded 10 kills, senior libero Terrell Jones had 10 digs, and senior middle hitter Lance Fulling had 4.5 blocks.

The JV (4-4) came up just short at Southport, falling 24-25, 25-22, 12-15.  Freshman middle hitter Evan Gant and sophomore outside hitter Andrew Herman each had five kills, sophomore setter Brad Yu tallied 13 assists, freshman libero Michael Hollingsworth totalled seven digs, and junior opposite hitter Mitch Sauer had five aces.

LNMVBC extended its winning streak to four in a row with a sweep at Columbus North, 25-12, 25-22, 25-12.  Senior middle hitter Austin Meng matched his jersey number with 13 kills to lead the victors (5-3).  Senior middle hitter Lance Fulling recorded nine kills, with senior setter Breck Wiener totalling 28 assists in the match.  Senior outside hitter Will Merritt paced the defense with seven digs.  Senior outside hitter Josh Hannan served two aces.

 

The LNMVBC junior varsity improved to 4-3 with four straight wins with a 25-23, 25-16 decision.  Sophomore outside hitter Andrew Herman led the offense with four kills, sophomore setter Brad Yu had eight assists, and freshman libero Michael Hollingsworth had three service aces and a 2.36 passing average.

Third consecutive victory

LNMVBC (4-3) recorded its third straight sweep at home, defeating Noblesville, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.  Senior setter Breck Wiener had five service aces and 32 assists for the winners.  Senior middle hitter Austin Meng led the attack with nine kills, while senior hitter Michael Dale contributed seven.  Senior hitter Sly Rowe recorded two blocks, with freshman Michael Hollingsworth contributing eight digs.
 

The LNMVBC junior varsity (3-3) also extended its winning streak to three with a hard-fought 25-24, 21-25, 15-5 victory over Noblesville.  Junior Mitch Sauer had three service aces, sophomore outside hitter Andrew Herman recorded four kills, and sophomore defensive specialist James Novotny led the defense with 17 digs.

Second straight sweep

LNMVBC made it two sweeps in two home matches with a 25-11, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Lafayette Jefferson.

Senior setter Breck Wiener paced the winners with 31 assists, senior middle hitter Austin Meng had 12 kills, and senior hitter Sly Rowe recorded 7 kills.

 

Senior outside hitter Will Merritt had 11 digs, while senior defensive specialist Terrell Jones added nine.

Freshman libero Michael Hollingsworth had five digs, freshman middle hitter Evan Gant led LNMVBC with seven service aces, junior opposite hitter Mitch Sauer had five aces, and freshman setter Eric Gentry chipped in four aces.

LNMVBC sweeps Covenant Christian

LNMVBC swept Covenant Christian, 25-6, 25-10, 25-10, in the home opener on March 15.

Senior middle hitter Austin Meng had 3.5 blocks and 10 service aces to lead the hosts.  Senior outside hitter
Will Merritt led the team with a 2.57 passing average.  And, senior setter Breck Wiener had 29 assists.

LNMVBC JV swept Covenant Christian, 25-14, 25-16, in its home opener.

Freshmen Evan Gant and Eric Gentry each had four service aces, with Gentry adding nine assists.  Freshman Michael Hollingsworth led the passing effort with nine service receptions, posting a 2.28 average.  And, sophomore Andrew Herman paced the defense with five digs.

LNMVBC fourth at Cathedral Tournament

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club opened its 2011 campaign with a fourth-place finish at the Cathedral Invitational on March 12.

LNMVBC swept host Cathedral in the second match of the day, 25-14, 25-21.

The Class of 2010--Brendon Yu, Bryant Beckwith, Garrison Martin, PJ Goodwin, Brian Readnour and Doug Austrom--graduated on Wednesday night in a private cermony at the school.  Congratulations and good luck at state!

State Draw Set, Face Trojans

The draw is now set for the 2010 IBVCA state championships on May 29th at Franklin Community High School.  LNMVBC will face off against the defending state champions Center Grove in the quarterfinal round at 11:00 am.  In other action, Cathedral will play Zionsville at 11:00 am.  At 12:30 pm, Hebron will play Roncalli, and Carmel will play Franklin.  Semifinals are scheduled for a 3:00 pm start, and the championship will be played at 5:00 pm.

Following the championship match, post season awards will be presented.

About the Match-up:

LNMVBC Hosts Regional Final on Friday

As one of the top eight ranked teams in the state, the LNMVBC has been granted the honor of hosting the regional final on Friday,  May 21st at 6:00 pm. 

The winner of this regional match will advance to the state finals on Saturday, May 29th at Franklin Community High School.

LNMVBC Takes 3rd in Final Regular Season Tournament

The LNMVBC competed in the final regular season tournament of the year at Franklin Community High School and the varsity squad finished the day with a third place finish.  The varsity won their morning pool with wins over Wapahani (25-7, 25-12) and Center Grove (25-12, 25-21).  In the semi-final round, the team fell to Cathedral (20-25, 24-26) and then defeated Franklin Community (25-19, 25-22) to finished 3rd.

The junior varsity squad faced off in a tough pool and dropped three matches to Cathedral (22-25, 16-25), Franklin (17-25, 16-25) and Center Grove (25-21, 24-25, 12-15).

The squad will face off in regional action on Friday, May 21st at 6:00 pm.

LNMVBC Tops Wapahani on Senior Night

On senior night, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club hosted the Wapahani Raiders and ended the night with a 3-0 sweep.  Tough serving and strong net play lead to the 25-11, 25-14, 25-11 win.

  • Bryant Beckwith:  5 kills, 1 block, 9 digs, 2 aces
  • Brian Readnour: 9 kills, 4 aces, 1 block
  • Doug Austrom:  4 kills, 1 block, 6 kills, 1 ace

The jv started the night with a 2-1 win over the Roncalli 9 squad (25-23, 24-25, 15-13).

 The club will compete in the final regular season tournament of the year on Saturday at Franklin Community High School.  The JV plays at 8:00 am and the varsity plays at 9:15 am.

LNMVBC Earns Split With Center Grove

The Lawrence North Mens Volleyball Club traveled to Greenwood to face the defending state champion Center Grove Trojans.

The jv team came out of the gate flat and dropped set 1.  After evening the match with a set 2 win, the club dropped the deciding stanza.  Scores for the match were 24-25, 25-20, 12-15.

Notable Performance:

  • Sly Rowe:  5 kils, 1 dig

The varsity team struggled at the service line to begin the match and dropped set 1 23-25.  The squad regrouped and took the final three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-18.

  • Brian Readnour:  17 kills, 5 blocks, 1 ace
  • Will Merritt:  7 kills, 5 digs, 2 blocks

The club will honor its six seniors on Thursday night when the team hosts Roncalli (jv) and Wapahani (v).  This will be the final regular season match of the 2010 season.

LNMVBC Battles, Loses in Five to Irish

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) traveled to Cathedral, battled hard but lost two matches to the Irish.

The junior varsity squad let a first set lead slip away and dropped the match by scores of 24-25, 21-25.

Notable Performances:

  • Michael Dale:  3 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs

The varsity match was a back-and-forth battle with Cathedral eventually prevailing 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12.

  • Doug Austrom: 13 kills, 4 blocks, 6 digs
  • Lance Fulling: 8 kills, 11 blocks,
  • PJ Goodwin:  12 digs

The jv record now stands at 14-7 and the varsity record is now 19-3.  The club will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Center Grove.

LNMVBC Tops Rival LC

In a re-match of the Metro final, the junior varsity squad hosted Cathedral's jv squad.   It was another tough battle with the Irish winning 25-16, 17-25, 15-10.

The varsity squad hosted township rival Lawrence Central and won 25-8, 25-10, 25-13.

Chatard Falls to LNMVBC

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) hosted Bishop Chatard and finished the night with junior varsity and varsity sweeps.

Behind solid serve reception and thirteen aces, the jv squad earned a 25-18, 25-17 win.

Notable Performance:

  • Brad Yu:  5 aces, 4 assists  

The varsity squad served aggressively throughout the match to earn a 25-14, 25-20, 25-12 win.

  • Doug Austrom: 10 kills (.529), 2 aces, 1 block, 9 digs
  • Bryant Beckwith:  4 aces, 4 kills, 3 blocks, 1 assist

The varsity record now stands at 18-2 while the junior varsity improves to 14-5.  The club is back in action on Tuesday when the JV hosts Cathedral and the varsity hosts township rival Lawrence Central.

JV Falls, Varsity Tops Visiting Grizzlies

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) earned a split against the Franklin Community Grizzlies.  The jv dropped a 1-2 decision while the varsity earned a 3-1 win.

The jv started strong by taking set one but faltered in the final two sets (25-8, 23-25, 11-15).

Notable Performance:

  • Michael Dale:  6 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks, 1 dig
  • Matt Bowman:  7 assists, 1 kill

The varsity squad came out of the gate slowly before eventually earning a 23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 win.

Notable Performances:

  • Lance Fulling:  8 kills, 11 blocks
  • Will Merritt:  5 kills, 10 blocks 

The club is back in action on Friday night when they host Chatard.

Varsity Wins Epic Battle Over Carmel

The varsity LNMVBC squad defeated Carmel in a five set thriller.  It was back and forth in the closing moments of the match, and LN finally prevailed 22-20 in the fifth on a Carmel hitting error.  Scores for the match were 25-23, 25-22, 17-25, 22-25, 22-20.

Notable Performances:

  • Brian Readnour:  21 kills (.576), 7 blocks, 2 digs, 1 ace
  • Breck Wiener:  56 assists, 8 digs, 2 blocks, 1 kill
  • Doug Austrom:  20 kills, 7 blocks, 13 digs

The junior varsity squad came out on top of some thrilling rallies and eventually took the match by scores of 25-12, 25-22.

LNMVBC Tops Eagles on the Road

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) travelled to Zionsville and earned two sweeps over the Eagles.

The jv team posted great kill numbers in earning a 25-21, 25-14 win.

Notable Performances:

  • Michael Dale:  7 kills (.333), 2 blocks
  • Sanel Karic:  7 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs

The varsity team struggled at the service line but used great net play to gain a 25-18, 26-24, 25-20 win.  The team posted a .429 hitting percentage and 14 total blocks.

Notable Performances:

  • Brian Readnour:  15 kills (.542), 9 blocks, 2 aces
  • Will Merritt:  5 kills (.556), 4 blocks, 1 dig

The club will be back in action against Carmel on Friday night in the fieldhouse. 



Saturday, April 17

Varsity 4-0, JV 2-1 in Southport Tournament

The LNMVBC, with arguably the toughest schedules of the day, had a strong showing at the Southport tournament.  The varsity team finished the day 4-0 while the jv team finished the day 2-1.

In the morning session, the varsity used tough serving to gain wins over Zionsville, Franklin, Roncalli and HSE.

In the afternoon session, the jv earned wins over Franklin and Center Grove before suffering a narrow defeat to Southport.

JV Takes Second in Metro Tournament

The LNMVBC junior varsity squad advanced to the final of the 2010 Metro tournament by defeating Roncalli 9 by scores of 25-16, 25-24.  In the final, the team staged a 13-2 run to take set two before faltering 11-15 in the final set.  Final scores: Cathedral JV defeated LN JV (25-14, 21-25, 15-11).

Notable Performances:

  • Sanel Karic:  13 digs, 11 kills, 4 blocks, 1 ace
  • Brad Yu:  11 assists, 6 aces, 4 digs

The varsity team started strong in set one but dropped a 2-1 decision to Carmel (25-17, 22-25, 11-15) in the semi-final round.

LNMVBC Squads Advance in Metro Tournament

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) hosted Southport and Bishop Chatard and finished the night with both squads advancing to the Metro tournament semi-finals.

The jv squad bounced back from a game two set-up and walked away with a 25-23, 21-25, 15-10 win over Southport.

Notable Performances:

  • Josh Hannan:  5 kills, 6 digs, 1 ace
  • Anthony Mulryan:  3 blocks, 1 kill

The varsity squad displayed a strong service game and solid ball control in earning a 25-13, 25-14 win against Southport (an earlier winner against Chatard).

  • Brian Readnour:  10 kills (.471), 1 block, 1 ace
  • Doug Austrom:  5 kills, 1 block, 7 digs

On Thursday, the jv squad will face Roncalli 9 at 5:00 pm.  The varsity team will face Carmel at 6:00 pm. 



Sunday, April 11

LNMVBC Hosts Preliminary Rounds of Metro Tournament

Twelve schools in and around Indianapolis will be competing this week in the annual Metro tournament.

Lawrence North is one of four sites that will host early round action on Tuesday, April 13th.  Matches that day will include:

  • Southport JV* vs LNMBV JV at 5:30 pm
  • Chatard Varsity vs Southport Varsity  [immediately follows]
  • (Winner of  Chatard Varsity vs Southport Varsity) vs LNMVBC Varsity [immediately follows]

*Winner over Chatard JV on  Monday at Southport

The jv and varsity winners on Tuesday will advance to the Metro semi-finals at Cathedral on Thursday.

LNMVBC Sweeps Crusaders

In the first of several Friday night home matches, the LNMVBC swept the visiting Scecina Memorial Crusaders.

The JV squad achieved their goal of serving 90% and tallied 12 aces in route to their 25-15, 25-21 win.

Notable Performances:

  • Josh Hannan:  6 aces, 4 kills, 1 dig
  • Michael Dale:  4 kills, 3 digs, 1 ace

The JV record now stands at 7-2.

The varsity team used efficient hitting to defeat the Crusaders by scores of 25-15, 25-9, 25-12.

Notable Performances:

  • Bryant Beckwith:  7 kills (.778), 3 aces, 2 digs
  • Breck Wiener:  36 assists, 3 kills, 1 ace

The varsity record is currently 9-1.

Both teams will host and compete in the preliminary rounds of the Metro tournament on Tuesday.

LNMVBC Goes the Distance to Beat Rebels

Both the jv and varsity squads of the LNMVBC went to the final set in order to down the visiting Roncalli Rebels.

The jv squad struggled on serve receive and gave up set number by scores of 18-25.  Behind tough serving, they triumphed in the final two sets by scores of 25-23 and 15-14.

  • Michael Dale:  3 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks, 1 dig
  • Josh Hannan:  4 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, 4 digs

The varsity team came out strong in set one and won 25-18.  The team suffered a let down and dropped the second and third sets 23-25.  On the brink of defeat in set number four, the team staged a great comeback to win 27-25.  The team then rode the momentum to take set five 15-5.

JV Avenges Loss to Southport

The JV opened the season with a 0-2 loss to Southport at the Cathedral tournament.  The team showed great improvement in turning the tables on the visiting Cardinals--earning a 25-19, 25-13 sweep.

Notable Performances:

  • Brad Yu:  13 assists, 3 aces
  • Sanel Karic:  9 kills, 1 block, 4 digs

The varsity squad started slow in set one but turned it around to take the first set 25-22.  Despite a third set letdown, the team took the match 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 25-27, 25-19).

  • Doug Austrom:  21 kills, 7 digs, 3 aces
  • Lance Fulling:  9 kills, 5 blocks

The club enters spring break with a jv record of 5-2 and a varsity record of 7-1.



Tuesday, March 23

LNMVBC Tops Millers

The LNMVBC swept the Noblesville Millers on the road on Tuesday night.  The JV team improved their record to 4-2 with their 25-12, 25-19 win.

Notable Performances:

  • Sanel Karic:  6 kills (.308), 3 digs, 2 aces, 1 block
  • Josh Hannan: 4 kills (.364), 6 digs
  • Matt Bowman:  9 assists, 1 kill 

The varsity squad squeeked out a 3-0 win by scores of 25-15, 29-27, 25-23.  They improve their season record to 6-1 with the win.

Notable Performance:

  • Will Merritt:  9 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs

The club will host their first home game of the season on Thursday when they face #10 Southport.

 



Saturday, March 20

LNMVBC Sweep Bronchos in Road Win

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club travelled to Lafayette Jefferson High School on Friday night and grabbed two wins over the host Bronchos.

The JV squad won 25-16, 25-16 behind tough serving and solid passing.

Notable Performances:

  • Josh Hannan:  4 kills, 2 assists
  • Matt Bowman:  3 kills, 6 assists

With the win, the jv's season record now stands at 3-2.

 The varsity team posted their best passing numbers of the season in route to a 25-9, 25-14, 25-17 win.

Notable Performances:

  • Brian Readnour: 10 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks
  • PJ Goodwin:  5 digs, 1 ace, 2.70 pass rating

The varsity record improves to 5-1 on the season. 

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Noblesville.  The club hosts their home opener on Thursday against Southport.



Wednesday, March 17

LNMVBC Sweep Royals in Regular Season Openers

The jv and varsity LNMVBC squads traveled to Hamilton Southeastern High School and walked away with 2-0 and 3-0 sweeps.

The jv team rebounded from a slow start and eventually took the match by scores of 25-19, 25-14.

Notable Performances:

  • Sanel Karic:  5 kills, 3 aces, 2 digs
  • Michael Dale:  3 aces, 1 kill

The jv season record is now even at 2-2.

Behind consistently tough serving,  the varsity squad also managed a sweep of the host Royals by scores of 25-10, 25-14, 25-13.

  • Bryant Beckwith:  8 kills, 2 aces, 3 digs

With the win, the varsity squad improves it's season record to 4-1.

LNMVBC Varsity Takes 2nd in Cathedral Early Bird

The Lawerence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) opened the 2010 season at the Cathedral early bird tournament on Saturday, March 13th. 

Behind aggressive serving, the varsity squad advanced to the gold bracket with wins over Hamilton Southeastern (25-10, 25-15) and Lafayette Jeff (25-16, 25-13).  In the gold bracket, LNMVBC defeated Hebron (28-26, 25-20) and dropped a match to Cathedral (19-25, 17-25) to take 2nd place in the tournament.

 The JV team completed their first tournament with a 1-2 record.  They opened the tournament with a narrow loss to Southport (23-25, 22-25) but rebounded with a win over Lafayette Jeff (25-17, 25-21).  They finished the day with a 18-25, 18-25 loss to Cathedral.

LNMVBC Opens '10 Season at Cathedral Tournament

The 2010 season opens for the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club at the Cathedral tournament on Saturday, March 13th.  

The varsity will play in the morning flight with matches versus Hamilton Southeastern at 8 am and versus Lafayette Jeff at 9:00 am.  The next two matches will be determined by the morning results.

The junior varsity will play in the afternoon flight with an approximate start time of 2:00 pm.   They will play Cathedral, Roncalli and Hamilton Southeastern.

LNMVBC Tryouts Complete

Tryouts for the 2010 Lawerence North Volleyball Club were held February 28, 2010 from 6-8 pm in the Balcony gym.  Thanks to all who attended and to all who participated in the pre-season training.  The 2010 roster is now posted.

COMING SOON--Boys Power Volleyball at Craig Middle School

This fall, the LNMVBC will be launching an after-school volleyball program for 6th-8th grade boys at Craig Middle School.  The program will run by the coaches and current high school players of the LNMVBC and is designed to be an introduction to the sport of volleyball.  All players are welcome and previous playing experience is not needed.

Highlights:

Players will develop and learn current sound techniques in passing, setting, serving, attacking and blocking

Players will receive personalized attention from large coaching staff

Conditioning is built into all drills.  Drills will be both competitive and cooperative in nature.

The program will be held at Craig Middle School.

Exact start dates and times are TBD (fall '09).

At the conclusion of the state championship match, the Indiana Boys Volleyball Coaches Association presented various season awards.  LNMVBC players were honored with several awards:

The draw is now set for the 2009 IBVCA State Finals hosted by Franklin Community High School.  Quarterfinals will be played at 11:00 am and 12:30 pm, semifinals at 3:00 pm and the championship match will be held at 5:00 pm.

Seniors Graduate in Private Ceremony

The 2009 IBVCA State Championships will be held Saturday, May 23rd at Franklin Community High School, the same day as LN's graduation.  Therefore, the seniors--Kyle Goudreau, Ben Hannan, Kenny Harris, Steve Harton, Ted Harton, Latif Majeed and Tyler Vogelsong--graduated Wednesday night at 7:00 pm in a private ceremony in the small auditorium.

The LNMVBC underclassmen, parents and friends were in attendance.   Congratulations to the Class of 2009 and good luck at state!

LNMVBC Headed to State!

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) qualified for the 2009 state tournament with a 3-0 win over Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday night.  Behind strong serving and net play, both offensive and defensive, the club earned a 25-10, 25-11, 25-16 sweep of the visiting Royals.

JV Goes 3-0 in Tournament, Completes Undefeated Season

With wins over Center Grove, Franklin and Chatard in the Franklin Community tournament, the junior varsity squad completed the 2009 season with a perfect 26-0 record.  Congratulations on the amazing season!

Class of '09 Puts on a Show on Senior Night

In front of a packed house, the LNMVBC seniors waged a two hour battle against the visiting Cathedral Irish.  In a back and forth contest, the LNMVBC eventually fell in five games by the narrowest of margins (18-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 13-15).

Notable Performances:

  • Steve Harton:  19 kills, 12 digs, 1 ace
  • Latif Majeed:  12 kills, .500 efficiency, 9 digs
  • Kyle Goudreau:  2 aces
  • Ben Hannan:  53 assists   

The JV squad faced a one set deficit but stormed back to take the match 18-25, 25-21, 15-12.  The win boosts the JV record to 23-0.

The club will be back in action on Saturday at the Franklin Community tournament (held at the Franklin Community MIDDLE School).

LNMVBC Stuns Center Grove

The Lawrence North men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) defeated the Center Grove Trojans in two tightly contested matches at home on Tuesday night.

The JV squad staged a late set two comeback to earn a sweep of the visiting Trojans (25-18, 25-24).

  • Austin Meng:  6 kills, 3 blocks

Behind scrappy floor defense and a balanced offense, the varsity squad pulled out a thrilling five set win (13-25, 25-23, 25-22, 17-25, 15-11) in front of an energetic home crowd.

Chatard Swept by LNMVBC

Chatard played host to the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) on Thursday night, LNMVBC snagged two wins.

The junior varsity squad struggled from the service line but still posted a 2-0 win (25-15, 25-13).

  • Will Merritt:  7 kills, .545%, 3 digs, 1 ace
  • Breck Wiener:  9 assists, 3 kills, 4 digs

The varsity squad used a strong middle attack to earn a 3-0 win (25-10, 25-17, 25-6).

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) travelled to Franklin Community High School and came away with two wins.  The junior varsity squad secured its 20th win of the season with a 25-16, 25-17 win.

The varsity team had a very solid outing behind solid defense and efficient hitting.  LNMVBC won 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-18).

Lawrence Central Falls to LNMVBC

LNMVBC ended a long week with two wins over township rival, Lawrence Central.  The jv squad started slow, but managed to pull out a 25-23, 25-17 win.

The varsity squad improved steadily from set to set and finished with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-11 win.

LNMVBC Squeeks Out a Win Against Zionsville

After a strong start, the LNMVBC had to rally from a 1-2 deficit to gain a five-game win over the visiting Zionsville Eagles--25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-9, 15-11.

  • Doug Austrom:  18 kills, 4 blocks, 19 digs

The LNMVBC junior varsity swept the Eagles 2-0--25-16, 25-17.

LNMVBC Sweeps Crusaders

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) swept Scecina Memorial High School in both the junior varsity and varsity contests.  The junior varsity won 25-8, 25-19.   The junior varsity's record now stands at 17-0 on the season.

The varsity squad was consistent and low error in it's 25-8, 25-10, 25-9 win.

LNMVBC Goes 7-0 in Southport Tournament

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) had a strong showing in the Southport tournament with the varsity finishing 4-0 and the junior varsity finishing 3-0.

The varsity squad posted wins over #7 Franklin, #9 Zionsville, #10 HSE and Covenant Christian.

LNMVBC JV Takes Metro Tournament Title

In a first for the program, the LNMVBC JV team won the 2009 Metro tournament title with wins over Cathedral-9 and Center Grove. 

LNMVBC defeated Cathedral-9 in the semi-final by scores of 25-15, 25-10.  In a back-and-forth final round battle, LNMVBC prevailed over Center Grove by scores of 24-25, 25-20, 15-13.

Notable Performances:

  • Austin Meng:  12 kills, 3 blocks, 6 aces
  • Bryant Beckwith:  11 kills, 3 blocks, 3 aces, 7 digs

The varsity squad dropped a semi-final match to Cathedral by scores of 11-25, 15-25.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at the Southport tournament.

LNMVBC Advances in Metro Tournament

After a two week break in match play, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club walked away with two wins in the prelimenary round of the Metro tournament. 

The junior varsity team defeated Hamilton Southeastern 25-15, 25-12 to advance to the Metro semi-finals.

  • Josh Hannan - 2 aces

The varsity squad defeated township rival Lawrence Central 25-12, 25-17.

Both teams will be back in action on Thursday in the Metro semi-finals at Cathedral High School.  The jv will play at 5:00 pm  and the varsity will follow.

Metro Tournament Draw Announced

The Metro Boy's Volleyball tournament will be held Tuesday, April 14th and Thursday, April 16th.  LNMVBC is seeded #4 and will be hosting the first rounds on Tuesday.  Both JV and Varsity will be competing in their respective tournaments (format will be best 2/3 for all matches).

The schedule of play for Tuesday is as follows:

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) travelled to Southport and came away with two wins.  The junior varsity battled to a 2-0 win (25-17, 25-16).

LNMVBC came out with two wins against Covenant Christian in the club's second home game of the season.  The junior varsity swept two games to zero (25-14, 25-18) to improve to 9-0 on the season.

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) looked strong in Friday night's home opener versus the Hamilton Southeastern Royals. 

 The junior varsity squad started the night off with strong serving and steady ball control and came away with a convincing 3-0 win (25-7, 25-11, 15-4).

Tough serving and a well-balanced attack allowed the varsity team to earn a 3-0 sweep of the Royals (25-15, 25-16, 25-13).

LNMVBC Aces Bronchos

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club travelled to Lafayette Jefferson High School Thursday night and came away with junior varsity and varsity wins. 

Behind 20 aces, the junior varsity swept the Bronchos by scores of 25-5, 25-4.

Notable Performance:

  • PJ Goodwin:  9 aces, 1 dig

The varsity squad steadily improved throughout the night and came away with a 3-0 win  (25-19, 25-15, 25-11).

Notable Performance:

  • Ben Hannan:  24 assists, 2 kills

LNMVBC will host the season's first home game against Hamilton Southeastern on Friday night at 6:00 pm.  LN students can get in free by bringing a canned good donation for Gleaners Food Bank.

LNMVBC Splits with Carmel

The Lawrence North Mens Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) split two matches at Carmel High School Tuesday night.  The junior varsity squad was dominate in its 2-0 sweep (25-8, 25-5).

Notable Performance:

  • Bryant Beckwith:  4 kills, 1 dig (1.00 hitting %)

The varsity squad suffered a heartbreaking five game loss to the host Greyhounds.  After being up 2-0, the team eventually fell by scores of 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 19-17.

Both team are back in action on Thursday at Lafayette Jeff (6:30 pm start time).  The first home game of the season will be on Friday night versus #8 Hamilton Southeastern.

LNMVBC Sweeps Brownstown Central in Season Opener

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club  (LNMVBC) travelled to host Brownstown Central and came away with junior varsity and varsity sweeps.  The junior varsity won 2-0 (25-22, 25-23).

Notable Performance:

  • Austin Meng (7 kills, 1 block, .375 hitting %)

Behind strong serving, the varsity squad debuted with a 3-0 win over the host Braves by scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-20.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday against #5-ranked Carmel.

Location Changed for First Game

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) kicks off their 2009 campaign on Friday, March 13th.  The varsity and junior varsity squads will take on host Brownstown Central with the JV game slated to start at 6:30 pm.

Congratulations to the 2009 Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club members!  To see the 2009 team members, please click on the roster link on the menu on the left.

Players:  please be sure to check out the calendar link to see when and where practices will be beginning on Monday, March 2nd.

Please let your parents know that we will hold a brief parent meeting on Thursday, March 5th following practice (7:15 pm).  I'll pass out a flyer about this meeting at the practice on Monday (but please give your parents a heads up before the weekend).

JV Takes Carmel Tournament Title

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club capped off a challenging week long schedule with two excellent finishes Saturday's Carmel tournament.  The junior varsity took the tournament title with a perfect 4-0 record!

  • LNMVBC defeated Franklin Community (25-8, 25-9)
  • LNMVBC defeated Saint Xavier (KY) (25-15, 25-12)
  • LNMVBC defeated Cathedral (25-22, 25-21)
  • LNMVBC defeated Trinity (KY) (25-20, 25-17) CHAMPIONSHIP

Notable Performances:

  • Lance Fulling:  10 blocks, 5 kills
  • Bryant Beckwith:  18 kills, 8 aces, 3 blocks
  • Breck Wiener:  56 assists, 4 blocks, 3 kills, 2 aces

The varsity squad had a strong day as well but fell in the championship match to Kentucky powerhouse Saint Xavier.

LN All-Stars Compete in All-Star Matches

Latif Majeed, Ben Hannan and Steve Harton represented LNMVBC in the IBVCA senior all star match, and Doug Austrom represented the club in the junior all star match.  The seniors played on the North team that dropped a 20-25, 24-26, 25-21 match to the South team.  Doug played on the North squad that fell to the South squad 15-25, 15-25, 25-20.  All four represented the club very well!

LNMVBC Takes Third at State

In just its third year in existance, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club capped off a fantastic season with a third place finish in the 2009 IBVCA State Championships.  In the quarterfinal round, the club held off a tough-serving Hebron team by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19.  In the semifinal round, LNMVBC fell to eventual state champion Center Grove in a hard-fought battle 16-25, 23-25, 25-14, 26-28.

LNMVBC Hosts First Home Game on Thursday

On Thursday, April 10th, the LNMVBC will hosts its first home game of season against the 10th-ranked Roncalli Rebels.  The first meeting between these two varsity teams went five games with LNMVBC comming out on top 3-2.   The LNMVBC JV team won their previous meeting 2-0.

The JV game will begin at 6:00 pm and the varsity will immediately follow.

LNMVBC Takes on Wapahani in Season Opener

The 9th-ranked Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) will open the 2008 season against 8th-ranked Wapahani on Friday March 7th in Selma, Indiana.  Due to a gym conflict, the match will be held at Selma Middle School.

IBVCA Pre-Season Coaches Poll Released

The Indiana Boys Volleyball Coaches Association (IBVCA) has released it's 2009 pre-season poll.  The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) enters the season with a state ranking of #3, the highest ranking ever for the program.

The entire pre-season list is as follows:

LNMVBC Represents Well in All Star Games

On Saturday, LNMVBC seniors Mitch Gerow and John Duckworth were members of the IBVCA Senior South All Star team that defeated the North team 2-0 (25-14, 25-16).

Juniors Ted Harton and Steve Harton were members of the IBVCA Junior North team that defeated the South team 2-1 (22-25, 25-23, 15-13).

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club will be playing in the IBVCA state finals on Saturday, May 24th at Franklin Community High School.  The state finals consists of eight teams and is a one-day bracketed, single elimination tournament.

LNMVBC Drops 5 Game Battle to Franklin

In their first state appearance, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club fought hard from beginning to end but eventually dropped a five game battle to Franklin Community (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-12).  This quaterfinal marathon definitely proved to be the best match of the day. 

Cathedral went on to win the state championship with a 3-0 win over Center Grove.

Mitch Gerow was named to the all-state team in a ceremony held after the final.

Following the state tournament, the IBVCA presented the state awards.  The following LNMVBC-ers received awards:

LNMVBC Wins Regional, Next Up--State Finals

In just their second year as a program, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club won their IBVCA Regional and qualified for the state championships on May 24th. 

LNMVBC faced off against Hamilton Southeastern in the regional final.  After a jittery start in game one, the big LN front line took over both offensively and defensively as the club swept the visiting Royals 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-12).

Notable Performances:
  • John Duckworth:  11 kills, 8 total blocks
  • Ted Harton:  6 kills (.857 hitting efficiency), 2 blocks

#5 LNMVBC will next face #4 Franklin Community High School on their home court in the quarterfinal round of the state championships.  The tournament will begin at 11:00 am, and LNMVBC is scheduled to play at 12:30 pm.



Wednesday, May 14

LNMVBC Defeats LC, Heads to Regional Final

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club defeated township rival Lawrence Central in regional semi-final action.  LNMVBC swept the visiting bears by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-15.  The win sets up a regional final showdown against Hamilton Southeastern High School, a 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-20, 2519) winner over Fishers. 

Notable Performances:
  • Steve Harton:  14 kills, 5 digs
  • Jeremy Howe: 37 assists, 2 aces

LNMVBC faces Hamilton Southeastern at 6:00 pm in a rematch of last season's regional final.  The winner advances to the state tournament on May 24th.



Saturday, May 10

LNMVBC Tops #2 Center Grove, Both Teams Finish 3rd

On Saturday, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club finished up their regular season at the Franklin Community tournament.  Both teams finished the day with 3-1 records and finished 3rd.

The JV squad's only loss was a three game battle to Cathedral.

  • LNMVBC def Center Grove 9 (19-25, 25-10, 15-11)
  • LNMVBC def Southport (25-11, 25-24)
  • Cathedral JV1 def LNMVBC (20-25, 25-15, 15-10)
  • LNMVBC def Cathedral JV2 (25-18, 25-18)

The junior varsity squad finished the season with a 21-7 record.

The varsity squad avenged their narrow Wednesday night loss to #2 Center Grove and advanced to the tournament's final four.  A loss to #1 Cathedral knocked the team to the consolation match where they defeated #8 Wheeler to take third.

LNMVBC will be back in action on Wednesday night as they host regional semifinals.  LNMVBC will play Lawrence Central in the second match of the night.

JV Avenges Tournament Loss; Varsity Drops Five Game Thriller

On Wednesday night, the LNMVBC jv squad avenged a loss to Center Grove at the Cathedral tournament in April.  LNMVBC won 2-0 (25-18, 25-14).

Notable Performance:
  • Robert Grannis:  16 assists, 3 kills, 1 block, 3 digs

In the varsity match, LNMVBC came out strong in the first two games to take a 2-0 lead.  However, they were unable to keep the momentum and dropped the final three games to the #2-ranked Trojans.  Scores were 25-20,25-21, 15-25, 21-25, 6-15.

Both squads will complete the regular season at the Franklin tournament on Saturday.

LNMVBC Sweep in Final Regular Season Home Games

Both Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club teams swept Lafayette Jeff in their final regular season home game of the season.  The jv squad used efficient hitting to take the match by scores of 25-8, 25-8.

Notable Performance:
  • Team hitting:  26a-19k-2e (.654 hitting efficiency)

After a tight game one, the varsity squad raised their intensity level to take the match 3-0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-10).

Notable Performance:
  • Mitch Gerow:  13 kills, 3 blocks, 4 digs
  • Ted Harton:  6 blocks

Both teams are on the road on Wednesday as they travel to #2 Center Grove.

LNMVBC Bests Rival LC on Senior Night

On senior night, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club topped township rival Lawrence Central in both the jv and the varsity match-ups.

 Tough serving was the difference in the jv match as LNMVBC won 2-0 (25-6, 25-12).

  • Tyler Vogelsong:  9 aces
  • Austin Meng:  4a-4k-0e (1.0 hitting efficiency)

In the varsity contest, the seniors celebrated a 3-0 sweep of Lawrence Central with scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-17.

  • Mitch Gerow:  18 kills, 1 ace
  • Seniors Mitch, Evan,  Jeff and Josh recorded at least one ace

 The LNMVBC will be back in action on Tuesday against Lafayette Jeff--their final regular season home game.

LNMVBC Handles Columbus North

 The LNMVBC travelled to Columbus North on Tuesday night and came away with two victories.  The teams worked hard at starting with and maintaining intensity throughout the night.  The JV team won by scores of 25-7, 25-13.

Notable Performance:
  • Doug Austrom:  12a-8k-0e (.667 hitting efficiency, 1 assist block, 2 aces)

The varsity squad also pulled out a sweep of the host Bulldogs by scores of 25-10, 25-11, 25-5.

Notable Performance:
  • Mitch Gerow: 28a-20k-1e (.679 hitting efficiency), 1 ace
  • Ted Harton: 18a-13k-2e (.611 hitting efficiency), 2 total blocks

Next up:  LNMVBC vs Lawrence Central on Thursday.  This game will serve as "senior night" and will honor John Duckworth, Jon Austrom, Jeff Hetland, Josh Allanson, Evan Honeycutt and Mitch Gerow .

Southport Falls to LNMVBC

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) capped off the week with two wins over visiting Southport High School.  The junior varsity set the tone for the evening with a convincing 2-0 win (25-21, 25-12).

Notable Performance:
  • Ben Hannan:  7 kills, 1.5 total blocks, 1 ace

The varsity squad finished the week off on a strong note by sweeping Southport as well.  Scores were 25-8, 25-14, 25-15.

Notable Performances:
  • Mitch Gerow:  17 kills, 6 digs, 1 block, 1 ace
  • Team hitting efficiency:  .414

LNMVBC will be back in action next Tuesday as they travel to Columbus North.  Thursday night (May 1st) will be senior night as the team hosts township-rival Lawrence Central.

LNMVBC Tops Scecina

LNMVBC started off the week on a good note with two wins over Scecina Memorial High School. 

The junior varsity squad looked solid in their 2-0 win (25-4, 25-20).

  • Bob Grannis:  10 assists, 3 kills, 4 aces 

 The LNMVBC varsity team swept visiting Scecina as well by scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-9.

  • John Duckworth:  5 kills, 5 total blocks

The junior varsity record now stands at 13-6 and the varsity record is 16-4.  Both teams will be back in action on Thursday night as LNMVBC hosts Southport.

LNMVBC JV Takes Second in Metro Tournament

On Thursday night, the LNMVBC JV squad knocked off Center Grove in the semi-finals of the Metro tournament 2-0 (25-18, 25-17).  In the Metro tournament finals, the JV squad fell to #1 Cathedral 0-2 (20-25, 21-25).  Congratulations on a great tournament run.  To date, the JV squad's only losses have come to #1 Cathedral.

  • Robert Grannis:  21 assists, 2 kills, 1 solo block, 5 digs

The varsity squad dropped its semifinal match to #5 Center Grove 0-2 ( 19-25, 21-25).

Both teams will be back in action at the Cathedral tournament on Saturday.  The varsity plays at approximately:  8:40 am, 9:20 am, 11:20 am and 12:40 pm.  The JV squad will play at approximately 2:00 pm, 2:40 pm, 3:20 pm.

LNMVBC Pulls Off Upset of #2-Ranked Franklin

Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) varsity squad extended its win steak to twelve by defeating #2-ranked Franklin Community on Wednesday night.  After struggling in a game two loss, the team mounted a late comeback in the third game to take a 2-1 lead.  The team carried the momentum into the fourth game and eventually took the match 3-1 (25-21, 11-25, 25-23, 25-17). 

Notable Performances:
  • Mitch Gerow:  17 kills (.484 hitting efficiency)
  • Ted Harton: 6 kills (.750 hitting efficiency)

After a sluggish performance on Tuesday, the LNMVBC junior varsity came ready to play against visiting Franklin Community.  LNMVBC won 2-0 (25-15, 25-10).

Notable Performance:

LNMVBC Teams Advance to Metro Tournament Semifinals

The second-seeded LNMVBC advanced to the semifinal rounds of the Metro tournament with two wins on Tuesday night.

The junior varsity overcame a late charge by Southport and held on for a 25-22, 25-24 win.

Notable Performance:
  • Latif Majeed:  9 kills (.353 hitting efficiency), 1 ace, 4 digs

The varsity squad overcame visiting Roncalli by scores of 25-16, 25-20.

Notable Performances:
  • John Duckworth:  8 kills, 4 solo blocks
  • Mitch Gerow:  10 kills (.500 hitting efficiency)

Both squads will be in action tomorrow at 6:00 pm as they host #2-ranked Franklin Community.  The semifinal rounds of the Metro tournament will take place at Cathedral High School on Thursday (JV starts at 5:30 pm).

LNMVBC Teams Come Out on Top in Home Opener

In the home opener, the JV squad shook off the rust from spring break and defeated the visiting Roncalli Rebels 2-0 (25-20, 25-17).

Notable Performances:
  • Doug Austrom:  8 Kills
  • Tyler Vogelsong: 5 Kills

The varsity squad overcame a slow start in game one, but played stronger and stronger as the night progressed and eventually took the match 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18) over the 10th-ranked Rebels.

Notable Performances:
  • Jeremy Howe:  40 assists, 1 kill
  • Mitch Gerow:  17 Kills

Both squads will be back in action at home on Tuesday as the LNMVBC hosts round two of the Metro tournament.  The jv team will face Southport and the varsity will face an opponent TBD.

LNMVBC Downs Fishers in Five Game Battle

The varsity squad of the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) came back from a 2-1 game deficit to defeat the host Fishers Tigers by scores of 27-25, 20-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-8.

Notable Performances:
  • David Brooks: 9 kills (.750 hitting %), 3 total blocks
  • Ted Harton: 9 kills (.470 hitting %), 1.5 total blocks

The junior varsity squad took care of business with a 2-0 win over the Tigers (25-14, 25-23).

  • Robert Grannis (4 kills, 2 block assists, 14 assists)

Entering spring break, the junior varsity record stands at 8-2, and the varsity record is 10-1.

LNMVBC Defeats Covenant Christian

Behind solid outside hitting performances, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club swept host Covenant Christian in both the junior varsity and varsity contests.

The junior varsity won 2-0 by scores of 25-23 and 25-18.

Notable Performances:

  • Garrison Martin (6 kills, .600 hitting %)

 The varsity squad won 3-0 by scores of 25-21, 25-14, 25-19.

Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday against host Fishers.  The JV game will begin at 5:30 pm.

 



Saturday, March 22

#8 LNMVBC Upsets #7 Zionsville, Wins Fishers Tournament

On Saturday, March 22nd, the Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) went 4-0 in the Fishers tournament to take their first-ever tournament title.  Pool play wins over Scecina (25-7, 25-17) and HSE (25-15, 25-20) placed the team in the three-team gold bracket.  In the gold bracket, they defeated #7 Zionsville (15-25, 25-17, 15-10) and Covenant Christian (25-17, 25-18) to take the title.  Congratulations to all on a great day!   The varsity record now stands at 8-1.

Both teams will be in action next Tuesday at Covenant Christian and Wednesday at Fishers High School before taking a week off for spring break.

#8 LNMVBC Tops #9 Carmel

The eighth-ranked Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club topped the ninth-ranked host Carmel Greyhounds in a match on Thursday, March 20th.

Behind efficient hitting (only 8 errors on 76 swings), the varsity squad posted a 3-0 win with scores of 25-23, 25-18, 25-18.  The varsity record now stands at 4-1.  The varsity will be in action on Saturday at a nine-team tournament at Fishers High School.  The team plays their first match at 8:00 am.

  • John Duckworth:  7 kills (.400 hitting %)
  • First varsity action for Bob Grannis and Garrison Martin

 The junior varsity also looked solid in posting a team .340 hitting percentage in their 2-0 win (25-18, 25-15).  The JV record now stands at 6-2.

JV Sweeps, Varsity Goes the Distance with Roncalli

The LNMVBC junior varsity squad posted a solid 2-0 win over the host Roncalli Rebels by scores of 25-20, 25-22.

Notable Performances:
  • Bob Grannis:  14 assists
  • Josh Hannan:  3 aces

The varsity squad overcame a mid-match lapse and recomposed themselves in the deciding fifth set.  LNMVBC took games one and two by scores of 25-23 and  25-20.  The host Rebels came back to take games three and four by scores of 25-18 and 25-15.  LNMVBC rebounded in game five to take the match 15-10.

Notable Performance:
  • Mitch Gerow:  22 kills
  • Ted Harton:  3.5 blocks

The varsity now stands at 3-1 for the season and the jv holds a 5-2 record.  Both squads will be back in action on Thursday night at 6:00 pm versus Carmel.

LNMVBC Returns with Wins Over HSE

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club (LNMVBC) rebounded from losses on Thursday night with two victories over the host Hamilton Southeastern Royals.

The JV squad looked strong in posting a 25-18, 25-13 win.  The team showed improved serving in the win with four (4) aces and a team serving percentage of 88%.

Notable Performances:
  • Garrison Martin:  14 kills (.392 hitting percentage)
  • Bob Grannis:  19 assists, 2 kills

The varsity team overcame a slow start to post a 3-1 win by scores of 15-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-15

  • John Duckworth:  10 kills, 1.5 blocks

The teams will be in action again next Wednesday at Roncalli and Thursday at Carmel.  The varsity will compete in the Fishers tournament on Saturday.

#9 LNMVBC Upsets #8 Wapahani in Season Opener

The 9th-ranked Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club travelled to Selma, IN and upset the #8-ranked Wapahani Raiders (25-14, 25-8, 25-12). The team served fourteen (14) aces in the win.

The junior varsity squad also looked impressive in their two-game sweep of the host Raiders. The JV won 25-16, 25-24.

LNMVBC JV goes 2-1 in Carmel Early Bird

The LNMVBC JV squad posted a 2-1 record in the Carmel Early Bird tournament at Carmel High School on Saturday, March 8th.  LNMVBC started the day with a 25-20, 25-24 win against Hamilton Southeastern.  Next they suffered a narrow three game defeat to Cathedral by scores of 25-20, 18-25, 5-15.  They finished the day strong with a 25-17, 25-8 win over the Center Grove Freshman squad.

The JV record now stands at 3-1. 

Both teams are in action next at Cathedral  High School on Thursday, March 13th.

Cathedral Tops LNMVBC

The #9-ranked LNMVBC dropped a 3-game (20-25,17-25,18-25) decision to the #1-ranked Cathedral Irish at Cathedral High School on Thursday, March 13th.

The JV squad also fell to the Irish two games to zero (17-25, 18-25).

LNMVBC & South All-Stars Defeat North Rivals

The IBVCA Junior South All-Star team featuring LNMVBC's Mitch Gerow and John Duckworth defeated the the North All-Star team 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-23).

Seniors Eric Sadler and Cole Wilgus were members of the IBVCA Senior South team that defeated the North squad 2-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-16).

The final regular season tournament of the year was hosted by Franklin Community High School. The LNMVBC varisty squad played in a pool consisting of four (4) top ten-ranked teams. After a rough start in the morning, the varsity squad managed two upset wins over #8 Southport and #4 Carmel.

LNMVBC Carries Momentum into State Qualifier

Fresh off a strong showing in the Franklin Community tournament, the LNMVBC is preparing to play in the State Qualifier. The matches will be played at #5 seed Hamilton Southeastern High School on Thursday, May 17th beginning at 6:00 pm. The first round pits LNMVBC against Fishers High School.

The winner will advance to play host Hamilton Southeastern immediately following the first match. The winner of that match will advance to the eight-team IBVCA state tournament on May 26th at Center Grove High School.

Spread the word so we can get some good support in the bid for the state tournament!

LNMVBC Bows Out in Sweet Sixteen

LNMVBC dropped a 0-3 (15-25, 21-25, 16-25) match to #5 seed Hamilton Southeastern in the Round of 16 of the State tournament.

The LNMVBC Junior Varsity team extended its win streak to four by topping Southport (2-0; 25-18, 25-20) on the road.

The LNMVBC junior varsity team dropped 1-2 decision to both Zionsville (25-12, 16-25, 4-15) and Franklin Community (scores not available).

The varsity team staged a comeback against Zionsville from 14-9 in the third game to take the match 2-1 (16-25, 25-14, 17-15).

Bracket Released for 11-Team Metro Tournament

The 11-team Metro Tournament will take place at four sites April 17 and 19. Opening- and second-round play is set for April 17 at Cathedral, Hamilton Southeastern, Center Grove, and Carmel, with the semifinals and championship to take place April 19 at Cathedral.

LNMVBC will play against #3 seed Carmel on Tuesday, April 17th (at Carmel High School). The JV will begin at 6:00 pm and the varsity will follow. The winners of those matches will advance to the city semi-finals to be played at Cathedral High School on Thursday, April 19th.

The junior varsity team battled but dropped a 1-2 (25-19, 22-25, 10-15)decision to the Cathedral JV II squad.

LNMVBC Teams Drop Two Tight Contests to Carmel

The junior varsity team dropped a close 1-2 game to Carmel in the second round of the Metro tournament. The squad made a great comeback in game two to take the game 25-24 before losing the deciding game.

The varsity team came out strong and took the opening game from #4 ranked Carmel 25-19. The team fought hard but could not hold the momentum and lost the final three games 18-25, 19-25, 23-25.

This was a very strong performance by both teams.

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club team will be hosting Scecina High School and Covenant Christian High School on Friday, April 13th at the Lawrence North High School Gymnasium.

The Junior Varsity squad will square off against Scecina at 5:30 PM and the Varsity team will play Covenant Christian immediately after.

First up, however, LNMVBC will travel to Roncalli on Tuesday, April 10th (5:30 PM start time).

The Lawrence North Mens Club Volleyball team kicked off the season at the Carmel Early Bird tournament on Saturday, March 17th at Carmel High School. The tournament featured seventeen (17) varsity teams and twelve (12) junior varsity teams from Indiana and Kentucky.

The junior varsity was dealt a particularly tough draw but fought hard in 1-2 losses to Covenant Christian and Roncalli and an 0-2 loss to Cathedral.

The varsity team dropped an 0-2 match against Southport but rebounded with 2-0 wins against Zionsville and Scecina. In the final of the Varsity Level Two Contenders bracket, the team once again defeated Zionsville 2-1.

Teams Fall to Wapahani in Regular Season Opener

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club teams dropped their openers to 2005 state runner-up Wapahani.

VARSITY:
Wapahani defeated LNMVBC 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-22)

JUNIOR VARSITY:
Wapahani defeated LNMVBC 2-1

Notable Performances:

* Steve Harton - 7 Kills (7k -15a-0e-.467 hitting percentage)

JV Drops Close Three Games to Covenant Christian

After overcoming early deficits in all three games, the Junior Varisty squad dropped a close 0-3 decision to host Covenant Christian.

The team will return to action following spring break.
