LNMVBC founded in 2007

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club is in its fifth season of competition in 2011.  LNMVBC was state runner-up in 2010 with a 27-5 record.  That was the third consecutive year that the program had won at least 23 matches, with the 2009 squad finishing third in the state (23-7).  The 2008 team was the program's first state qualifier with a 25-7 mark.

Wildcats Place 5th at IBVCA State Championships

The Lawrence North Wildcats battled on Saturday at the IBVCA State Championships.  They battled a tough Center Grove team in the state quarterfinals, losing in four tough sets, 26-24, 14-25, 15-25, 19-25.


Seniors Austin Meng, Lance Fulling, Breck Wiener and Will Merritt were recognized as Senior All-Stars, and Merritt and Josh Hannan were awarded with Academic All-State awards.

2011 State Draw Set

Team HuddleThe draw is now set for the 2011 IBVCA state championships on May 28th at Southport High School. LNMVBC will face off against the #5 seed Center Grove in the quarterfinal round at 12:30 pm. In other action, Carmel will play Southport and Hebron will play Hamilton Southeastern at 11:00 am. In the other 12:30 match, Hebron will play Cathedral. Semifinals are scheduled for a 3:00 pm start, and the championship will be played at 5:00 pm. Before the championship match, post season awards will be presented. For more information about the draw, please visit the IBVCA website. About the Match-up: LNMVBC enters the state finals with a record of 20-11 while Center Grove holds a season mark of 12-5. Center Grove holds a 6-5 lifetime record over LNMVBC and won a 5 set marathon against LNMVBC on May 3. Center Grove is making their 11th appearance in the state championships while LNMVBC is making their 4th. The two teams have met in the state finals each of the last two years, with the Trojans winning in 2009 and the Wildcats winning in 2010.

Congratulations Class of 2011

The Class of 2011--Lance Fulling, Breck Wiener, Will Merritt, Terrell Jones, Anthony Mulryan, Michael Dale, Austin Meng, Josh Hannan, and Sly Rowe--graduated on Wednesday night in a private cermony at the school. Congratulations and good luck at state!

After the ceremony, Breck Wiener and Austin Meng signed their letters of intent to Adrian College in Michigan.  Congratulations Breck and Austin!

LNMVBC beats Wapahani

The fourth-ranked LNMVBC improved to 18-8 this season by defeating Wapahani on the road, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15.

The LNMBVC JV also record a straight-set win, 25-19, 25-14.

Sensational Senior Night!

The nine LNMVBC seniors players made their final regular-season home match a memorable one with a sweep of #7 Cathedral, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.

Seniors Michael Dale, Lance Fulling, Josh Hannan, Terrell Jones, Austin Meng, Will Merritt, Anthony Mulryan, Sly Rowe, and Breck Wiener delivered an impressive performance to improve the LNMVBC record to 17-7 this season.

Lance Fulling had 13 kills, a solo block, and 1 dig.
Breck Wiener had 3 kills, a solo block, 31 assists, 2 digs, and 1 ace.
Will Merritt had 5 kills, a solo block, 12 digs, and 2 aces.
Terrell Jones had 1 assist and 12 digs.
Anthony Mulryan had 1 assist.
Michael Dale had 8 kills and 10 digs.
Austin Meng had 5 kills and 2 digs.
Josh Hannan had 1 ace.
Sly Rowe had 5 kills and 1 assist.


The JV opened the Senior Night festivities with a 25-20, 25-17 sweep of Cathedral.

#4 LNMVBC dropped a marathon decision to sixth-ranked Center Grove, 19-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 15-10.

Breck Wiener had 39 assists.

LNMVBC swept Bishop Chatard on the road, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14.

LNMVBC sweeps #10 Southport

LNMVBC (5-3) recorded its second victory against a Top 10 team in the 2011 campaign with a 28-26, 25-19, 25-18 win at #10 Southport.  Senior setter Breck Wiener handed out 26 assists and added two service aces.  Senior middle hitter Austin Meng recorded 10 kills, senior libero Terrell Jones had 10 digs, and senior middle hitter Lance Fulling had 4.5 blocks.

The JV (4-4) came up just short at Southport, falling 24-25, 25-22, 12-15.  Freshman middle hitter Evan Gant and sophomore outside hitter Andrew Herman each had five kills, sophomore setter Brad Yu tallied 13 assists, freshman libero Michael Hollingsworth totalled seven digs, and junior opposite hitter Mitch Sauer had five aces.

Streak extended at Columbus North


LNMVBC extended its winning streak to four in a row with a sweep at Columbus North, 25-12, 25-22, 25-12.  Senior middle hitter Austin Meng matched his jersey number with 13 kills to lead the victors (5-3).  Senior middle hitter Lance Fulling recorded nine kills, with senior setter Breck Wiener totalling 28 assists in the match.  Senior outside hitter Will Merritt paced the defense with seven digs.  Senior outside hitter Josh Hannan served two aces.


The LNMVBC junior varsity improved to 4-3 with four straight wins with a 25-23, 25-16 decision.  Sophomore outside hitter Andrew Herman led the offense with four kills, sophomore setter Brad Yu had eight assists, and freshman libero Michael Hollingsworth had three service aces and a 2.36 passing average.

Third consecutive victory

LNMVBC (4-3) recorded its third straight sweep at home, defeating Noblesville, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.  Senior setter Breck Wiener had five service aces and 32 assists for the winners.  Senior middle hitter Austin Meng led the attack with nine kills, while senior hitter Michael Dale contributed seven.  Senior hitter Sly Rowe recorded two blocks, with freshman Michael Hollingsworth contributing eight digs.

The LNMVBC junior varsity (3-3) also extended its winning streak to three with a hard-fought 25-24, 21-25, 15-5 victory over Noblesville.  Junior Mitch Sauer had three service aces, sophomore outside hitter Andrew Herman recorded four kills, and sophomore defensive specialist James Novotny led the defense with 17 digs.

Second straight sweep

LNMVBC made it two sweeps in two home matches with a 25-11, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Lafayette Jefferson.

Senior setter Breck Wiener paced the winners with 31 assists, senior middle hitter Austin Meng had 12 kills, and senior hitter Sly Rowe recorded 7 kills.


Senior outside hitter Will Merritt had 11 digs, while senior defensive specialist Terrell Jones added nine.

Freshman libero Michael Hollingsworth had five digs, freshman middle hitter Evan Gant led LNMVBC with seven service aces, junior opposite hitter Mitch Sauer had five aces, and freshman setter Eric Gentry chipped in four aces.

LNMVBC sweeps Covenant Christian

LNMVBC swept Covenant Christian, 25-6, 25-10, 25-10, in the home opener on March 15.

Senior middle hitter Austin Meng had 3.5 blocks and 10 service aces to lead the hosts.  Senior outside hitter
Will Merritt led the team with a 2.57 passing average.  And, senior setter Breck Wiener had 29 assists.

LNMVBC JV swept Covenant Christian, 25-14, 25-16, in its home opener.

Freshmen Evan Gant and Eric Gentry each had four service aces, with Gentry adding nine assists.  Freshman Michael Hollingsworth led the passing effort with nine service receptions, posting a 2.28 average.  And, sophomore Andrew Herman paced the defense with five digs.

LNMVBC fourth at Cathedral Tournament

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club opened its 2011 campaign with a fourth-place finish at the Cathedral Invitational on March 12.

LNMVBC swept host Cathedral in the second match of the day, 25-14, 25-21.

Seniors Win, Juniors Fall in All-Star Matches

LNMVBC seniors--Brian Readnour, Doug Austrom and Bryant Beckwith--competed in the senior all-star match and helped the south squad defeat the north squad by scores of 25-18, 17-25, 25-22.

Lance Fulling, Breck Wiener, and Will Merritt competed in the junior all all-star match as members of the north squad that dropped a 20-25, 16-25, 17-25 decision to the the south squad.

The Lawrence North Men's Volleyball Club charged through a highly competitive state finals field and advanced all the way to the final of the 2010 IBVCA state championships.

The club opened the day the day with a hard-fought 25-22, 25-22, 26-24 win over defending state champ, Center Grove.  In the semifinal round, the club waged a back and forth side out battle against the third-ranked Carmel Greyhounds.  In the end, LNMVBC advanced to its first ever state finals appearance with a 28-26, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23 win over Carmel.

Despite some early nerves, the team fought hard in the final against Cathedral but eventually fell to the Irish 25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21.

Brian Readnour and Doug Austrom were named to the All-Tournament Team.

LNMVBC Advances to State with Regional Win

Prior to the start of the game, the team honored Mrs. Janey Harton for starting the club in 2007 and for her support of the program over the last four years.  Thanks from all the players, parents and coaches!

For the third time in eight days, LNMVBC faced off against the Wapahani Raiders--this time with a place in the state finals on the line. 

The team used a distributed offense and tough serving to earn both a 25-13, 25-13, 25-22 win and a trip to the state finals on Saturday, May 29th at Franklin Community High School.

The team:
The L.N. Men’s Volleyball team will be classified as a club / extramural sport.  All competitions will be governed by the Indiana Boy’s Volleyball Coaches Association (IBVCA) and not by the IHSAA.

Though not a sanctioned sport by the school, all participation requirements will be the same as varsity sports including academic, disciplinary, etc.        


Practices may begin March 1st.   Games / tournaments begin in mid-March, and the season concludes with the state finals at the end of May.


The season will consist of 2 - 3 games per week for the  duration of the season.  Three Saturday tournaments will be scheduled as well.

Monday – Friday on non-game days (depending on available gym time).  Practices will not be immediately after school.

Open Gyms:
To be determined.  Based on gym availability.  These may or may not be at the high school.

To be determined.  Try-outs will be held sometime in early March to determine teams.  Depending on court and coaching availability, the number of participants on the team may need  to be limited.        

To be determined.  As a club team, this team will not receive support from the athletic  department budget.  Therefore, this team will be supported by player fees and fundraising activities.  All efforts will be made to keep these fees as low as possible.

Other areas schools with club teams include:  Lawrence Central, Scecina, Hamilton Southeastern, Carmel, Zionsville, Cathedral, Southport, Franklin Community, Roncalli, Center Grove.   Many other schools around the state have programs as well.

Each team member will receive a numbered team jersey and shorts that they may keep.   Optional warm-ups and other spirit shirts may be purchased as well.  Other required equipment includes court shoes and ankle braces.
