We encourage all of the Little Leagues in Florida to continue to expand their Baseball, Softball and Challenger Programs to make them available to as many boys and girls as possible. The more kids that get to participate the better!
2012 Urban Initiative Jamborees
In 2012, the state of Florida will be the first state to host an Urban Initiative Jamboree for the Little League Baseball Division (ages 9-12) AND the Little League Softball Division (ages 9-12), in the same city, on the same weekend, at the same complex!!! Thanks to the Florida State District Administrators Association, who are sponsoring the softball Jamboree, we will be able to provide the Jamboree experience for our Urban Initiative baseball AND softball players in 2012. The Jamborees will both take place over the weekend of May 4th – 6th, 2012, and all games will be played at Sid Lickton Park in Clearwater, FL. Please mark your calendars because we hope to have one regular season team from each of your leagues participate in both of the Jamborees. Spread the word now to your board members, umpires, managers, coaches and parents. If you haven’t chartered Little League Softball in the past, this is the perfect year to start. More event details will be mailed out to the league presidents and district administrators in early 2012. Thanks everyone and we look forward to seeing you all in 2012.

Little League Pitch Study Results
A five-year study, recently concluded by the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina, found that the primary cause of arm injuries in youth baseball players was overuse. It also failed to show an increased risk of arm injury due to breaking pitches, such as curve balls. “Some within the baseball community have advocated for a ban on curveballs,” Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer for Little League Baseball and Softball, said. “However, the study conclusions do not clearly support such a ban.
