Annual Breakfast with Santa a Smashing Success!

BreakfastwithSanta09
Over 400 children and parents attended the 18th annual Breakfast with Santa event at the Giamatti Little League Center recently.  Volunteers from the local Kiwanis Club, friends of Little League Baseball and Softball and members of the Secret Santa Society all helped to prepare breakfast for the youngsters as they waited to tell Santa what was on their wish list for the Holidays.  Breakfast would not be a success without the help of a group of middle school students who volunteer for the KIM Program (kids in the middle).  They were busy cleaning tables, washing dishes and carrying food trays for parents and children.

The yearly event provides money to purchase winter coats, boots, hats, mittens, scarves, toys and food for dozens of children in the Bristol area who otherwise would have a less than festive holiday season.  The Secret Santa Society wishes to thank everyone who made the Breakfast the best ever and for all of the donations that will be sent to needy children and their families.

New Invitational Tournaments to be Introduced in 2010 Season

Attention District Administrators:

Allow me to begin by saying that I truly hope all of you and your families are able to experience a very relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday. Being the time of year that it is and knowing that many of you have a tremendous amount of work on your plates, with not only the Christmas Holiday approaching, but also in aiding your local leagues in their preparation for the upcoming 2010 season, I want to inform you all of a very important Little League item that has come about.

This post is to formally advise all District Administrators within the U.S. Eastern Region that commencing immediately with the 2010 season a 9/10 Year Old Little League Baseball Invitational Tournament, along with a 9/10 Year Old Little League Softball Invitational Tournament, will take place for the first time in Little League® history.

If you are interested in becoming the host for either the 9/10 LLB Invitational Tournament or the 9/10 LLSB Invitational Tournament,  please take the opportunity to convey that interest to Mr. Corey Wright, Assistant Director of Little League's Eastern Region. In your correspondence, you will need to include a proposal as to what specific items and accomodations that you and your district would be willing to offer. Some items of interest and importance are hotel accomodations, umpire availibility, housing for players/umpires, meals for players, field accomodations, tournament format (11 teams: 11 states, pool play/double elimination), banquets for opening/closing of tournament, medical personnel, and last but not least parking/bathrooms/seating availibility.

The more detailed of a proposal that you are able to provide, the better the opportunity that we will have to make a qualified determination as to whom would be in the best position to serve as host of the 9/10 Year Old Little League Baseball & Softball Invitational Tournaments. Please send all of your specific proposals directly to:

East Region Road Show Clinics Currently Being Planned

Furthering our commitment to help each chartered program become the best it can be, we will once again team up with District Administrators and local volunteer personnel again this year to bring the education and support of the "Little League East Region Road Show" to a community near you.

The "Road Show Clinic" is a local league administration clinic, with an available umpire clinic component, that allows volunteers to have direct access to the resources that can help make their leagues become more organized and operate better.  The clinic revolves around the presentation of "A Year in the Life of Hometown Little League," in which the workings of a fictional league are followed throughout an entire year.  This format provides local league administrators an opportunity to review the latest information on Little League rules, equipment, and programs, while creating a forum to speak directly to Little League Staff members.

The East Region is currently planning the schedule of these clinics within different locations/states throughout the region.  The following sites will be visited during the 2009/2010 season:

Smyrna, Delaware
Delaware District 1
Location: Sheraton Dover Hotel
Date/Time: November 14, 2009 (8AM-4PM)

More clinics to be announced soon!

Brochures for these clinics will be mailed to all leagues within the individual states and districts as well as leagues throughout the surrounding states/districts.  These brochures are printed and mailed directly from Little League Baseball International in Williamsport, PA.  However, once they are available, they will also be placed on our website for your reference and utilization.

We look forward to taking the journey to a town near you in the future.  If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact the Eastern Region HQ at (860) 585-4730 and speak to either Patrick or Corey regarding this great opportunity.

2010 International Tournament Umpire Resume Deadline REACHED

Calendar

PLEASE NOTE: THE EASTERN REGION H.Q. IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING 2010 UMPIRE RESUMES.

Attention Umpires!!! I would like to take this moment to send a special note of appreciation to all Little League Baseball and Softball Volunteer Umpires that plan to submit Umpire Tournament Requests to the Eastern Region Headquarters; all of which will be considered for a possible 2010 Little League Baseball and/or Softball Regional Tournament Assignment or World Series Tournament.

Please understand that the November 1st deadline is fast approaching...any application that is submitted after this date will NOT be considered.  There are many deserving umpires within this region that will request assignments and meet the deadline, and therefore any late applications simply cannot be considered.

The East Region Staff will review these applications/resumes during the months of November, December and January before officially selecting the umpires for all levels of tournament within the region. Official notification of such assignments will then be made to all specific umpires and District Administrators.
