Long Island Cheerleading Coaches Association: Code of Ethics

Mission Statement
Long Island cheerleading has evolved into a serious sport requiring qualified, dedicated Cheerleading Coaches.

It is the Coach's responsibility to foster the promotion and enthusiasm necessary for cheerleading. Furthermore it is imperative that LICCA Coaches promote safety and good sportsmanship for their student athletes.

Code of Ethics
LICCA is committd to high ethical standards of professional conduct as applied to coaches and athletes. The coach should actively use their influence to enhance good sportsmanship by their players and the spectators. Each coach should know the rules of the competition. The coach and team will abide by the following rules and regulations:

I. MISCONDUCT

When a team member or coach displays abusive, deliberae or malicious behavior such as fighting or abusive language before, during or after competition, it must be reported to the LICCA Board where the situation will be dealt with. This includes verbal abuse of the judges. If the LICCA Board finds that the athlete or coach has exhibited un-sportsmanlike behavior, the Board has the right to suspend the athlete or coach from the next cheering competition in which the team competes. The incident will be reported to the school's athletic director. The athletic director must respond with a letter to the host school, athletic director and LICCA president to the communication.

If a suspended cheerleader participates in a contest where she was ineligible, the team forfeits the contest.

II. JUDGING

During a competition, any infraction incurred that was not reported by the safety judge during warmup, is the responsibility of the coach. All coaches should observe warm ups to assist the safety judge and reduce potential oversihts of safety infractions. The Safety Judges' decision is final.

III. LEVEL OF COMPETITION

An athlete may not compete in any combination of Varsity or Junior Varsity levels in one day.
