Attention all Coaches:

After much discussion, mainly about the safety issues regarding bases moving 1/4 turn during basket/trick tosses, it has been decided that:
FOR THE REST OF THE COMPETITION SEASON, AND ONLY FOR a kick single/double basket toss, we will be allowing the bases a quarter turn.  The main reason for my concern was bases moving, period.  What if they trip while turning, etc.?  We have it so ingrained in us that you are not allowed to have your bases move in a basket toss, except to adjust to catch your flyer. It seems that this particular trick basket toss (this is the only one we will be "clearing" until further research) is taught and needs to be executed in a way that sort of changes the "trejectory", if you will, of the flyer.  So it is actually safer for the bases to make that quarter turn to compensate for this.  As you know, Gina researched this contradiction in our rulebook.  I have to say that it took me awhile to accept the idea, but it just took me time to visualize (a bazillion times), at my own speed, and "re-hear" the voice message that Lisa Moskow left on this subject matter and the intent of the rule.  Further, last year's NFHS Spirit Rules book actually covers the same issue, and covers it in a bit more detail, clearly stating this is legal.
So that being said, the vote is for yes to allow the bases the quarter turn in this toss only.  Thanks for your patience, and thanks to all for their valuable input.  If you have ANY questions, please e-mail me atnvanhouten@optonline.net.  Please do not respond to the sender of this e-mail, Christine Caputo.
