Long Island Cheerleading Coaches Association: Welcome


Mission Statement

Long Island cheerleading has evolved into a serious sport requiring qualified, dedicated Cheerleading Coaches.  It is the Coach's responsibility to foster the promotion and enthusiasm necessary for cheerleading. Furthermore it is imperative that LICCA Coaches promote safety and good sportsmanship for their student athletes.


  The 2015 LICCA All Star Cheer can be found in the video link to the left.  Please have your All Star learn the cheer for the practice at Finals.They will have the time needed that day to perfrct the cheer in their respective division practices.

The following are the locations and dates of the LI Championships: 

Sat. Jan 31 - Medium & Large Varsity Finals - Hauppauge HS

Sun. Feb. 1 - Small Varsity Finals - Freeport HS

Varsity Finals bracelets will be sold at the All Star Practice.  All spectators MUST have a bracelet to enter.  Coaches, please remember all JV teams attending Varsity Finals will need a bracelet to enter.  Personal checks will not be accepted, but coaches or school checks and cash will be.  Please make 1 check out to: Freeport: Freeport HS Cheerleading, Hauppauge: Hauppauge Cheer.  If you cannot attend the All Star practice to purchase bracelets, please contact Laura Candela - Hauppauge (631) 466-0945 or Laurie Kolodny - Freeport    (516) 680-4720 to make arrangements to purchase your bracelets.

Please remember, in order to qualify for Finals, you must have placed 1-4 in a competition and have competed in at least 3 competitions, 1 in Session 1, 1 in Session 2. 

The 2014-2015 competition link is posted on the LINKS page to the left.  Please register for Finals if your team has qualified and met their requirements.

Membership:  Thank you for attendingthe Safety Clinics.  Please note, attendance at a clinic must be accompanied by memership in LICCA in order to compete at a LICCA competition this season.

Coaches must have attended one of the safety clinics in order to compete in the upcoming season. Coaches who have not attended a safety clinic or have not had a private clinic will be ineligible to register for competitions in November. If you did not attend either safety clinic, please contact Gail Verne, Lucille Mankowich or Gina Caputo immediately to set up a private clinic.  



Membership is renewed on a yearly basis. Unfortunately, returning coaches must pay the additional $35 penalty, as the deadline for renewal was June 30th. Please send your membership dues as soon as possible to:

New members will be permitted to join LICCA and pay dues a half an hour prior to the start time at the safety clinics. Returning membership dues will be accepted at the end of the safety clinic.

Required NYSPHSAA Coaching requirements for 2014-2015 Winter Season:

 AACCA, First Aide/ CPR/ AED, Concussion, School violence and prevention and Child abuse

The following is the information regarding your certification:

Please take the opportunity to discuss with your ADs the requirements to be approved by your Board of Education.  These are the standard requirements below. Your district may require more.

Coaching Requirements for a NON-Teacher

To Begin…

Register on the TEACH website for NYSED to enter all of your coursework.

First Aid – Please be sure to take the APPROVED courses attached or it will not count towards certification.
CPR/AED - Please be sure to take the APPROVED courses attached or it will not count towards certification.

Completion of approved courses in the following:
- Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (online course available)

or    http://www.violenceworkshop.com/

- Training in School Violence Prevention and Intervention (online course available)
Or http://www.childabuseworkshop.com/

- Concussion Training (online course available)

- DASA Training – Section XI and local colleges have this course.  Some require 6 hours of seat time, some 3 hours of seat time and 3 hours on line.

There is DASA training in Section XI on Monday June 9th - 6 hours…. Tuesday June 16 and 17 - 3 hours each…. they need to go on the Section XI website or call Section XI to register.

All coaches, certified teachers or not, will need to be AACCA certified as well.  You can take the course online, or you can organize a class with your fellow coaches as long as you guarantee enough people to attend.

Just a reminder to coaches who compete out of state: you must apply for permission from the state to attend any out of state competition ex. UCA Nationals.  The form is on the state website.  The sooner the better.

Under courses, select Sport Specific Courses, then Spirit.

The Long Island Cheerleading Coaches Association was established in 1994. Meetings are held approximately 4 times a year. LICCA holds safety clinics in the fall, sets standards for LICCA sponsored competitions, and follows National Federation SPIRIT rulebook, AACCA and Section VIII and IX competition rules, and acts as a resource to public and private school coaches. All-Star and Scholarships are awarded to member schools.
