Team Runs at the Dunes!
We took a little break from running in Chicago and traveled to the Indiana Dunes Saturday for a nice, long, hilly run up and down the sand dunes and back along the shore. It was a rather hot day to run in the sand, but it felt so good to jump in the water when we were done. It was a great way to end our summer, the weekend before school starts. Monday, we are back for another new school year.
Practices will now be daily after school, from 3:30 till about 5:30, sometimes till 6:00. We will have either a meet or a practice most Saturdays from here on out as well.

Stephanie Qualifies for State!!!
Freshman Stephanie Simpson is following the path of a long line of successful Wildcat distance runners as she qualified for the State Meet in both the 800m and 1600m races. In the 800m, she had to battle a close race, but finished with a strong kick to take 2nd place, behind the State's top 800m runner (from St. Gregory). She then came back strong in the 1600m run to take 2nd again, this time in a new PR time of 5:26 (a drop of 12 seconds from her previous best.)
Congrats, Stephanie!

Hosting the Wildcat Big 6 Classic
 | | | | Amy Palermo - 1600m Run - 3rd Place |
On a windy and chilly day, we hosted our 2nd major invite of the season with 6 teams participating. Our girls finished in 2nd place, scoring 111 pts, loosing only to Walther. Our boys were in 5th with 74 pts., in a fairly even competition as the winning team from IMSA only had 125 pts.
The Wildcat girls distance team dominate the meet, scoring 63 pts. The 3200m relay team took 1st, and was soon followed by a 1st and 2nd place finish by Hanna Helwig and Miriam Bromley in the 3200m run. Later, Stephanie Simpson easily won the 800m run, and came back later to also take first in the 1600m, leading a 1-2-3 sweep in that event as teammates Hanna and Amy Palermo finished 2nd and 3rd.
For the boys, our sprint relay teams both finished in 2nd behind a fine squad from Immaculate Conception, and to finish the meet in the 4x4 relay, Steven Kohn ran a great anchor leg to move into 2nd place in that event, too. Travis Brandt ran a galiant 3200m race, just after finishing the 4x8 relay as he took 2nd place.
This week, we enter the last portion of our season, as the girls will head to Chicago Christian Friday evening for their PSL Finals meet, and the boys will be off to Lisle Saturday for the Nalley Invite.
The Tuesday meet at Chicago Christian (April 29) has been CANCELLED.

We finally got the meet in on a beautiful day on Monday - sunny and a bit cool, but much nicer than what Saturday would have been. A big thanks to our parents and alumni who helped run the meet - we couldn't do it with out you!!!!
We had 9 schools able to return and we had a very nice meet. Illiana was a new entry to this year's meet and won the boys competition by 5 points in a close battle with Mather. Mather won the girls side pretty easily. The Wildcats finished 3rd in the girls meet and 4th in the boys meet - two pretty good showings.
Stephanie Simpson lead the girls with a double victory in the 800m and 1600m races and also lead off our victorious 4x8 relay team and took 2nd in the high jump - a pretty good day! Hanna Helwig added to the Wildcat dominance in the distance events (wow, that felt good to say - its been a few years since I've been able to say that!) by winning the 3200m race and finishing 2nd not far behind Stephanie in the 1600m. The distance events accounted for 50 of the team's 79 points.
For the boys, Nikko Glasper was our top point getter, winning the 100m dash and taking 3rd in the 200m. He was also a part of the 2nd place 4x1 team. Travis Brandt took a 3rd in the 3200m run and a 4th in the 1600m race.
Saturday, we compete at Concordia University in the Midwest Lutheran Championships hosted by Walther.
