  Welcome

Welcome to the Official Luther North Wildcat Cross Country/Track & Field Team Web Site.

Summer Cross Country Workouts

We are now entering the 3rd week of July - have  you been running?   I know a few of you have, because you've been running with us at LHN, but not many of you.  Remember those goals you set for yourself and team last June?  They are wasting away - unless you have been putting in the miles.   If you haven't, get started - today!!!

This week: those of varsity runners who have been running, should be up to 5-6 mile long runs.  We did two 5 mile runs this week, and will start with 6 mile runs next week (July 21).   We will do 6 miles twice, and then supplement with a couple of 3-4 mile runs, which will put us over 20 miles for the week.   If you are just starting, then 3-4 mile runs should be in your daily routine for two weeks, before you move up to a 5 mile run.  If you can't determine distances run, then substitute time.  If you are a varsity runner, then guys can figure 7-8 min/mile and girls 8-9 min/mile.   If you are a JV runner, then add 1 min/mile to that and you'll have a good estimate.

Official first day of CC practice is Wednesday, August 13 - 9:00 AM.   We will practice Wed - Sat that week at 9:00 AM, and then give you the schedule for the next week.

Also, remember the Wildcat Sports Kickoff Night, Tuesday, Aug 19.  Dinner is free and will begin at 6:00, with our team meetings at about 7:00.   All athletes and parents are expected to be present.  Booster Club reps will also be there, selling new Wildcat Wear for the year.

Finally, don't forget to get those doctor's physicals - you must have yours on file with AD office before you may begin practice on Aug. 13.  Don't miss practice because you didn't get a physical.  If you lost your form, go to the ihsa website and download one.  (http://www.ihsa.org/forms/general/PhysicalCard.pdf)     If you need a doctor, contact Dr. Tyrell and set up and appointment with him for a physical.  (736-7484)

2008 Season Officially Comes to an End

We had our team banquet Wed June 4, celebrating our season.  Most team members were able to attend, which was great especially for our seniors.   The season had many successes- some that can be measured by awards and ribbons, but other successes that can only be measured by the memories they have engrained in each of us.

To our seniors:  Amy, Shannon, Bryan, Zach, Travis, Kyle, Sean:  it has been a pleasure coaching you these past 4 years and you will be surley missed.  We wish you the best as you enter another phase of your life and thank you for all the great times and memories you have provided us.  You have each added in your own way to the Wildcat Tradition.  Good luck and God Bless Always!

Girls State - Stephanie Runs Great, But Falls Just Short

Stephanie ran a great 1600m race, finishing in 6th in the 3rd heat with a time of 5:29.85.  She was the 13th fastest time, but only top 12 advance to Saturday's finals, so she was just short of her goal.  While not quite as fast as her time from Sectionals, she still ran a good race, but didn't really have anyone to outkick at the end, leaving her just short.  She will surely use this as a good learning experience and come back next year stronger because of it.  We scratched her from the 800m so she could concentrate on just the 1600m run, which was a good decision, because the 800m was probably a bit further out of reach.   Congratulations, Stephanie on a great first State experience - the first of hopefully many more to come!!
