IFA STATE TOURNAMENT BEAUMONT, TEXAS
On July 9 and 10, 2011, Lethal Weapon GOLD participated in the IFA State Tournament in Beaumont, Texas. Overall, there were 21 teams who entered the tournament and Lethal Weapon GOLD placed 2nd, by dropping the championship game with a score of 6 to 5.
Quote from the GOLD Coach, Albert Ramirez "It was a great weekend. The girls played like the Gold team".
The bracket was a very difficult and grueling bracket. We played back to back games, twice, and that was from the winners bracket, playing a total of 6 games on Saturday;
losing our last game on Saturday to the Elgin Express. Unlike ASA, for IFA college players are allowed to come in and play as long as they meet the age requirement. We faced a very tough pitcher from Southern Miss and we lost our game 4 to O. The girls got there first taste of college pitching that night.
On Sunday we bounced back, winning 3 games in the winners bracket, by winning our 3rd game against the Elgin Express and defeating a pitcher from Baylor. After the girls first tasted that college pitching, we made our adjustments and hit the ball very well, stringing many hits together to shut them out, winning 5 to 0, to end up in the championship game against Louisiana Chaos. Again the girls had another opportunity to face a college pitcher from Southeastern Louisiana. The gilrs made there adjustments, showing they are truely a GOLD Team and lead the game to double ITB, and by ufortunate circumstances, loosing this game 6 to 5.
Congratulations go out to all the ladies of Lethal Weapon in pulling together some great games, making for a very exciting and eventfull weekend. Many props goes to Mel Hinojosa who caught all 10 games, Kalie Henderson who pitched 3 complete games in a row, and Abigayle Arias who gave some relief to our ace, Victoria Brown, whom answered the call in the last game pitching with a sore thump.
Our batting came around when it counted with big home runs posted by our very own Tommie Garza and Victoria Brown pushing us over the top to win in clutch game situations. Haley Smith, Haley Acry, Rianna Flores, Kayla West, Jessica Aber,TGold Taylor Garcia, Marissa Waltz, Kellen Gomez, and Amber Garza, all played their hearts out at their positions. The ladies never let down, sending many teams out of the tournament, and when the dust cleared, we made another statement and left an impression of who LETHAL WEAPON GOLD, really is.

ASA 18U Gold Regional Qualifier - College Station
The ASA Region 7 Girls 18U Gold qualifier in College Station, Texas was a very good tournament for Lethal Weapon. Although the ladies did not qualify for a berth at the National Tournament, there many good things that happened that is recipe for an exciting summer.
With our first game ending up in a lost, 6 to 2 to San Antonio Hit-Green, the ladies realized they were going to have to "Dig Deep" to continue on in this tournament. "Dig Deep" is what they did. The ladies ended up playing 2 games back-to-back and posting 2 decisive wins. The first win came against Texas Elite with Lethal Weapon scoring 7 runs and allowing 4 runs scored. The ladies then played back-to-back against Beaumont Crush and ended up run-ruling the Crush in a decisive win of 16 to 2. With a much needed break, after playing 2 consecutvie games, the ladies came back and punched out the Travelers 4 to 2. During the game against the Travelers, our very own, Haley Smith smashed 2, 2-run, Home Run Bombs, that led Lethal Weapon to their 3rd straight win.
As fatigue began to set in, the girls knew, if they were going to pull this off, they would have to "Dig Deep" within themselves and pull out everything they had to defeat the very tough, Texas Bombers. The game was a back-and-forth match with the Texas Bombers batting first and scoring 2 quick runs to lead the game 2 to 0. The ladies from Lethal Weapon showed what they were made of, and came back to score 2 runs of their own. The game continued with a pitching dual put on by our pitching ace, Victoria Brown. The Texas Bombers soon found out who Lethal Weapon was by our ladies coming in and scoring a 3rd run. Lethal Weapon led the game 3 to 2 until the 5 inning. The Texas Bombers came in and posted 3 unanswered runs to take the lead, 5 to 3. The pitching dual continued until the very last inning, with the Texas Bombers throwing everything they had at us, to keep our ladies off balance. The game ended with the Texas Bombers defeating Lethal Weapon 5 to 3.
Despite the second loss to the Texas Bombers, the ladies were able to bring it together and make a statement to all teams, who Lethal Weapon is. Congratulations goes out to all the ladies of Lethal Weapon for an exciting weekend. Special Congratulations goes out to Victoria Brown for "Digging Deep" to really find herself in difficult situations, and being able to bring-it-back and pitch her way out of tough situations. Congratulations to Abigayle Arias for coming in and closing 2 of the 3 wins, allowing much needed rest for Victoria Brown.
In closing, I was WOWED about the level of play of all teams that were in attendance at this tournament. Out of the 40(ish) teams in attendance, there were "0" weak teams. Every game played could have gone either way. I am very proud that our ladies were one of the best teams there, and that is making a statement, loud and clear. Everyone is going to remember Lethal Weapon Gold. Quote from a new fan "Some small team out of La Porte, Texas, Man!! they are awsome"!!!!!!
