4th Annual Hunter Meckes Tournament
Pictured here are Sherry Meckes and her son Shane presenting a $4,000 check to JD Light, LASC President, for addition to the Club's Hunter Meckes Scholarship Fund. The check represents a portion of the proceeds from the 4th annual Hunter Meckes Scholarship Tournament sponsored by LASC. This year's tournament was held on April 17, 2011 at the Lehighton Area High School. 36 teams participated in the tournament. For more details, go to www.huntermeckes.org
Each year, the Club awards two $500 scholarships: one to a graduating female and one to a graduating male from the Lehighton Area High School. Scholarships are available to graduating seniors who were a member of the high school soccer team during the current year, were a LASC player for a minimum of 2 years, have been accepted to a 2 year or 4 year accredited college, university, community college or trade school and are a well rounded and deserving student who has displayed good citizenship through involvement in school and/or community organizations.
Monthly Meeting
LASC meets on the last Thursday of each month at the Lehighton Rec Center. Check the website for meeting times. All coaches and parents are welcome and are encouraged to attend.
Help Wanted
LASC needs your help. Like many other local sports organizations, we sometimes struggle to find coaches for our teams. Sometimes, we have one person coaching 3 teams or someone who doesn't have a child in the program coaching because we just can't let down our enthusiastic young players.
Parents, please consider volunteering to help your child's team. If you feel you are not ready now, we understand but just ask that you give it some thought for the future. Please remember, most of us have been in your shoes...some of us have never played the game of soccer, and some of us have never coached any type of sports team. All it takes is a willingness to have fun with the kids, a desire for adventure...and maybe a little patience. We will help you in any way we can to help you learn the basics of soccer. Please contact JD Light if interested in helping.
No Smoking Policy
The Lehighton School District and the Borough of Lehighton allow us the privilege of using their fields and facilities All LASC practices and games are held on smoke free properties, and therefore, smoking on or in any of the fields or facilities that the Club is using is prohibited.
Please be aware that the Borough passed an ordinance in 2008 that prohibits smoking on any Borough property. The Rec Center and the fields at 6th & Coal Streets as well as the sidewalks around these facilities are Borough property. We have been told that the Borough police will enforce this and violators are subject to fines.
Thank you for your cooperation!
