Lafayette All-Stars Advance in Waco

WACO, Texas — The Lafayette Little League All-Stars advanced to the semifinal round of the Little League Southwest Regional on Saturday with a dominating 13-3 victory over White Hall, Ark., in five innings at Marvin Norcoss Field in Waco, Texas.

The win followed Friday's dramatic 12-11 come-from-behind win over Midland, Texas and put Lafayette 2-0 in the four-team pool play. Lafayette will finish off pool play against the other 2-0 team in Pearland, Texas, at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Even with a loss on Monday, Lafayette would advance to bracket play. The winner of that game will meet the second-place team from the other pool and the loser will meet the winner of the other pool on Tuesday on ESPN2.

Lafayette scored five runs in the first inning and never really looked back. Arkansas hinted at a comeback with a three-run third to cut Lafayette's lead in half at 6-3.

But Lafayette would quickly respond with five runs in its third, thanks mostly to a Nate Cox grand slam, to put the game away for good.

Cox finished the game 3-for-4 with the homer and four RBIs. Also homering for Lafayette in the win were Austin Primeaux at 2-for-2 with a homer and four RBIs, while Ethan Hines was 1-for-2 with a blast and three RBIs.

Hines was also the winner pitcher, giving up three runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Cox went the last two-thirds of an inning.
