Lafayette Little League Capital Campaign - Information

Dear Supporter of Lafayette Little League:

We, the Board of Directors of the Lafayette Little League, want to take this time to thank you for your past support of our little league baseball program.  Lafayette Little League has been in existence for more than 35 years and is set up as a private non-profit corporation organized solely to provide opportunities for the children of Lafayette to learn and to participate in the game of baseball.  The Board of Directors is a group of individuals who volunteer their time to organize, prepare for, and oversee the upcoming season.

The 2007 season was an exceptional year for Lafayette Little League.  We had over 530 children participate in our four (4) divisions, which is by all accounts one of the largest groups we have ever had.  Our Major League All Star Team won the state tournament, and our Eleven year old All Star Team won the district tournament and came in second in the state tournament.   Our Major League and Minor League teams won the Tournament of Champions.  Lafayette Little League hosted two tournaments at our park this past season.

Hosting tournaments is good for our city, and eliminates the need for parents to travel across Acadiana and the state to attend post-season tournaments. The board would like to help upgrade the facilities for the future.

Because we are a non-profit private corporation, we do not receive any funds from the city.  Registration fees, sponsorships, and outfield signs help us operate and provide basic maintenance to our facilities.  However, to do any significant improvements to our facilities, we will need additional help. For example, the existing concession stand that is the only building at the park is over twenty years old.

We have concluded that a separate two story building behind the existing concession stand that would house new bathroom facilities, a large storage space, and a meeting room for league activities is needed.

We met with City-Parish officials to identify the quickest and most efficient ways to improve the park. They have provided support and help in a variety of ways, however we concluded that a capital campaign to raise funds was the quickest and most efficient way for us to construct the needed building at the park.

As most of you know, we lease the park from the City-Parish. The City-Parish recently agreed to extend the term of our lease. Lafayette Little League will be situated at its current location at least through the year 2023. This allows us to construct the needed building, and be assured that we will be able to utilize it for the next 15 years.

We want to raise $200,000 towards the construction of the building and the ancillary adjustments to the park. Your help can be in the form of providing materials, equipment, expertise, or monetary donations. Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated. However we have set up the following levels of giving for this campaign:

Hall of Fame Supporter of Lafayette Little League: $10,000 or more

Grand Slam Supporter of Lafayette Little League: $5,000 or more

Home Run Supporter of Lafayette Little League: $1,000 or more

Supporter of Lafayette Little League: $100 or more

Friend of Lafayette Little League: less than $100

The 2008 season is about to get underway, and we plan to begin construction on the building immediately after the season ends in August. Please feel free to call any of the board members listed below if you are interested in helping.  Donations can be mailed to the address provided above.

Again we thank you for your past support of Lafayette Little League, and hope you will continue to support us by participating in our capital campaign.

 Sincerely,
