Tracy Bunge - Head Coach

Tracy Bunge enters her 11th year as head coach of the Kansas softball team in 2007 after guiding the Jayhawks to a Big 12 Conference Postseason Championship, an NCAA Tournament automatic bid and 36-26 record -- the most victories since the 1997 season -- in 2006. A proven winner on all levels, Bunge has amassed a 318-271-1 record during her coaching tenure at KU and a mark of 766-547-2 in 24 years on the collegiate diamond as both a coach and student-athlete.

Since her hire in June 1996, Bunge's Jayhawks have made four NCAA Tournament appearances -- in 1997, 1999, 2005 and 2006 -- and claimed one Big 12 Championship (2006). The Jayhawks have also been ranked as high as ninth in the country under her leadership.

In addition to all the team accolades in 2006, senior Serena Settlemier, who hit a school-record 22 home runs including six grand slams, became the first Jayhawk to be named Big 12 Softball Player of the Year. Settlemier also earned 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second Team All-America honors and was named NFCA Midwest First Team All-Region. Junior hurler Kassie Humphreys, also an All-Big 12 First Team selection, was named NFCA Midwest Second-Team and finished the season with a 19-17 record and 1.19 ERA.

Kansas was ranked 24th in the May 16 ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll after receiving votes in four of the weekly polls in 2006. KU has compiled eight 30-win seasons and been to the NCAA Regionals four times in the last 10 years under head coach Tracy Bunge.

Bunge lead the Jayhawks to a 31-24 overall mark and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2005, which included a 9-8 record in the Big 12 Conference for a sixth-place finish. A total of five Jayhawks -- juniors Destiny Frankenstein, Heather Stanley, Jessica Moppin, Serena Settlemier and Ashley Frazer -- earned All-Big 12 accolades while three -- Frazer, Nicole Washburn and Kathy McVey -- were named Academic All-Big 12.
