Comets Work Hard to Improve

The Kansas Comets finished the season at 9-16.  This summer will see the youthfull Comets make vast improvements.  Look for the program to be successfull again next year

Friday, May 4
Comets Finish 2007 Season at 15-14
After dropping two to the Wyandotte Bears in district tournament action, the Comets were left out of a regional for the first time in 6 years.
The season wasn't a complete loss, after finishing 2nd in the Tri-County Conference the Comets placed three seniors on the all conference 1st team (Cameron Foreman, Brett Sands and Zack Christie) and three on the 2nd team. (Tyler Vann, Eric Adair and Blade Christie)
Cameron Foreman was the conference Offensive Player of the year and Brett Sands was the conference Pitcher of the Year. The three on the all conference 1st team will play in an all-star game against the Lucky Seven. Time and date will be announced very soon.
Congratulations go out to the seniors for a great career!

Monday, March 5
Comets Win Season and Conference Opener
With the help of a late inning rally, the Comets fought back from a 4-1 deficit in the 5th inning, to win 6-4 at Chouteau. The team posted 1 run in the 2nd, 2 runs in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and 2 more in the 7th.
On the strenth of a 4 hit 12 strikeout performance by Brett Sands on the mound, the Comets fought off a couple of costly errors, to pull out the Tri-County conference win.
The offense was led by Senior captain Cameron Foreman who had 2 hits and 3 RBI's.
Blade Christie and Cody Davis each had two hits, and Tyler "Chevy" Vann and Eric Adair had a hit a piece.
The Comets stay in conference play, hosting Colcord Tuesday, March 6 at 4:00.


Wednesday, August 16
School Begins, New assistant coach assigned
It is with great anticipation that we begin the 2006-07 school year.
Coach Todd Lankston will be taking over the assistant coaching duties.
Expectations for this years team are high.

We will be competing in a baseball conference for the first time in Coach Hix's 9 years at Kansas.
The "Tri-County" Conference members are: Kansas, Westville, Chouteau, Colcord, Oaks, Cave Springs and Watts.
An all-star team will be selected at the end of the regular season. Only seniors will be eligible for this team and will compete in an all-star game following the season.

Friday, April 28
Comets Win 4th Straight District Championship
The Kansas Comet high school baseball team defeated Colcord in a best of 3 district championship.
In the first game, Joseph Cochran struck out 16 in 7 innings as the bats rallied late, winning 14-1. Cochran gave up 2 hits and walked none.
In the late game, Devin Alkire struck out 14 in a 5 inning run rule victory. The final score was 10-0. Alkire only gave up 1 hit, accounting for 14 of the 15 outs himself. Joey Ross belted a 2 run homerun as the Comets cruised to their 4th straight district championship.
Regional pairings will be released next Monday.

Comets 14-3, Ranked #4 in Class 3A
The 2006 season has been off to a fast start, with the Comets going 8-0 before losing to 4A Missouri powerhouse Seneca in the Wyandotte Festival.

With quality wins over Stilwell, Gentry Arkansas, Wyandotte, Commerce, Gravette Arkansas, Oaks and Tahlequah Sequoyah, the Comets have solidified their position in the #4 spot in this weeks coaches poll.

Comets Ranked #3 in Class 3A Pre-Season Poll
Starting off the season 6-0 the Comets hit the pre-season ranking in the #3 spot.

Comets Fall in State Tournament
The Comets fell to Sperry, the #1 ranked team in the state, 6-1 Thursday in the opening round of the state tournament.
The Comets finish the season 25-8 and made the first state appearance in 8 years.
The graduating seniors; Blake Vaughan, Ophie Kingfisher, Kyle Teague, Marcus Glass, and Dakota Barnett will be greatly missed.

COMETS REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!
The Comets beat Sequoyah Tahlequah 5-1 in the regional championship game to advance to the state tournament!
The state tournament will be held in Shawnee, and will start Thursday May 12.
The opponent and times will be announced later!

The Comets beat Colcord 11-1, and 8-0 to sweep the district championship at Kansas.
The #8 ranked Comets will play in the regional tournament next week!

Comets 17-6, Adair Tour Champs, Host Colcord in Dist. play!
The Comets are now 17-6, and the Adair Tournament Champions.
The Comets defeated Adair 4-3 in the championship game of their tournament, handing Adair only it's 2nd loss in 24 games.
Kansas hosts Colcord Wednesday, April 27 in District tournament action.
Game times are 1:00, and 3:00, then 3:00 Thursday if neccessary, with the winner of the best of 3 series advancing to the regional tournament.(Dates, times, and opponents to be announced later)

2004 Regional Playoffs
Comets finish Season at 24-8
May 5, 2004

The Comets finish 2004 regular season with a 20-6 record.
One of the six losses occurred to Sallisaw Central in the Stilwell Tournament. The Comets finished with two wins and the 5th place trophy.
In the Mickey Mantle Wood Bat Classic, the Comets compiled a 4-0 record winning the Comet division of this prestigious tournament.
After recording a 10-0 win versus Ketchum in the Adair Tournament, the rest of the games were rained out and the tournament was cancelled.
The district tournament at Chelsea began on Wednesday April 28, 2004.

The Comets won the district championship in two games, to advance to the regional tournament at Verdigris, and lost in the Regional Championships to Verdigris.
After beating Salina in the opener of the Regionals, The Comets lost a tough one to Verdigris in the second game.
In the third game, it took the Comets 11 innings to finally put away Salina.
In the Championship, a pitching depleted Comet squad lost to Verdigris who advanced to the State Tournament.

Congratulations to the 2004 Comet Baseball Team for a great season.
Seniors Warren Kirk, Michael Kingfisher, and Brent Tyer will be missed next season, and the best of luck goes out to them as they start their college careers!

LADY COMETS IN STATE TOURNAMENT!
The Kansas High School Lady Comets Won the consolation side of the Area Tournament to gain an elite birth to the 2000 State Basketball Tournament. The first round of the Tournament will be played Thursday, March 9, 2000 in Choctaw. Game time is 3:30. Thursday's baseball game against Commerce has been cancelled, and everyone is encouraged to attend!
