2013 Sundodger Recap and Bob Firman Look-Ahead (Click Here for More)

The Braves continued to demonstrate their strength and depth at the UW Sundodger meet last weekend, with strong finishes by both the men’s and women’s squads.

The men finished in second place, behind Gig Harbor (WA 4A #1, US #2).  The Braves were led by top 20 finishers Garrett Kraal (7th place, 15:14.5), Cameron Glade (13th place, 15:28.7), and Andy Snyder (17th place, 15:38.9).  The Braves were the top Washington 3A team, besting key rivals University (5th place) and Seattle Prep (7th place).

The women ran hard to a 5th place finish, behind Eisenhower, Glacier Peak, Central Valley, and Henry Jackson.  They were the 2nd place Washington 3A team, behind key rival Glacier Peak, but finishing ahead of Prairie (8th place).  Megan Beauchene (5th place, 18:10) and Kaylee Sanchez (7th place, 18:19.4) led the Braves with finishes in the top 20.

The Sundodger course is fast and short, with an officially-listed distance of 4,922 meters, and times that rival those on a three mile course.  It is the only course that we run with this distance, and we have only run it the last two years.  Ten of the 11 men who ran the course both this year and last year beat their previous year’s times; on the ladies side, nine of 14 who ran both years beat their previous year’s time.  Notable performances for the men included Travis Crumpler (3:36 improvement!), Phil Fishburn (2:25 improvement!), Ben Brooks (over 1 minute improvement!) and Trevor Beswick (over 1 minute improvement!).  Women who improved their performance by over 1 minute from last year included Kaylee Sanchez (3:47 improvement!), Katie Fitzgerald (1:37 improvement!), Kirsten Paulsen (1:27 improvement!), Miquette Orren (1:10 improvement!), and Raini Bisson (1:05 improvement!).  Nice work to all of you!

Looking ahead to this weekend …

The ladies will not race again until the first Mid Columbia Conference league meet in Walla Walla on Thursday 9/26.  That means they will be practicing hard this Saturday!

The men will be running at the Bob Firman Invitational in Boise, Idaho this Saturday.  This is a power meet, featuring some of the best teams in the nation, running on the course that hosts the regional qualifying race for the Nike Team Nationals.  Scheduled to appear are US#2 Gig Harbor (Washington), US#6 North Central (Washington), US#30 Nathan Hale (Washington), US#37 Kamiakin (Washington), US#42 California (California), US#65 Davis (Utah), US#86 Pocatello (Idaho) and US#120 Centennial (Nevada).  You can read more about this race in the race preview at the Dyestat website:
