Kacy Wyman: Welcome

“It’s going to be a BIG day!” Those were Kacy’s words to Tim on the morning of the Fun Run. Was she ever right! Once again our incredible support system came together to make a difference in the life of Kacy and others who live with Cystinosis. We continue to be amazed by the generosity and love that you show Kacy and our family. May 4, 2008 was day that filled us with admiration, joy and HOPE! Some 300 walkers/runners came out to tame the Wing Lake “hill” on a gorgeous Sunday morning. The sea of yellow shirts screamed success. Event goers also had an opportunity to rub elbows with Ashley Kazian, Miss United States 2007, whose platform has been Cystinosis education and awareness. We were also honored by the presence of CRN’s VP of Development, Jill Morrill and one of our CRN directors, Frankie McGinnis. Both are mothers of daughters with Cystinosis and actively involved with CRN.
Even more remarkable than 300 walkers/runners is that over 550 people participated as a participant, sponsor, volunteer or pledge provider. The event raised $30,000 for the Cystinosis Research Network. From the $41 raised by Claire Kelly and friends at their lemonade stand to the $2,000 matching pledge program by Marilyn & Ron Gunther, hundreds opened their hearts and wallets in support of the event. Rest assured the money raised WILL have an impact in improving the lives of those with Cystinosis with the ultimate goal of finding a cure. The community spirit is alive and well! We are thankful for that.
Kacy will participate in Dr. Trauner’s Cognitive opportunities like these that we are able to make her quality of life the best it can be. Kacy loves adventure and new experiences. She is acutely aware that she has Cystinosis and for those of you that know her you know that she does not let it slow her down. She reminds us every day to live life in the present. We have no doubts that she was meant for great things and she will do her part to change the world. Thanks for your part in that.
