Baseball Clinics Scheduled

Located in the "Handouts" link to the left, you will find the schedule for baseball clinics being offered by Kiski Valley Little League.  Clinics are offered to all those playing baseball from Tee Ball through the Majors level.  Clinics will be held at three locations, Tiger Gym in Apollo, Washington Twp. Elementary School and the Allegheny Twp. Elementary School.  Clinics will be staffed by past managers and coaches from the three merged leagues.

Reading the schedule you will see that Clinics are broken up for Tee Ball, 7 and 8 year olds, 9 and 10 year olds and 11 and 12 year olds.  You will also notice that age groups may be broken up by alphabet, (A - L), (M - Z), etc.  Players are to attend scheduled clinics based on Age and Alphabet.  For example:  11 year old, Billy Baseball should report to all clinics listed for players 11 -12 and (A - L).  In this case, Billy's clinics, all 8 of them, will be at the Tiger Gym from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Some other items, from the schedule, to note:  WTBA (7-8 & TB) = Washington Twp. 7 & 8 year olds and Tee-Ball together.  AT - Vandergrift (TB) = Allegheny Twp. and Vandergrift Tee-Ball players only.  AT - Vandergrift (7 - 8) = Allegheny Twp. and Vandergrift 7 & 8 year olds only.

Softball Clinics are still being discussed and will be scheduled as facilities become available.

What's this all mean anyway?
What's going on?  There's been a merger.  Starting with this season, players from the traditional Little League boundaries of Allegheny Township, Vandergrift and Washington Township will be playing together under the Kiski Valley Little League charter.  How's that going to work?  All players wishing to play at the Minor, Major or Junior/Senior levels in Baseball and Softball will attend a tryout.  Teams will be formed based on performance and ability shown there.  We'll field as many teams as needed.  What about Tee-ball and Coach Pitch?  The merger only effects minors and majors and above.  Tee-ball and Coach pitch teams will still be formed within the local leagues.  Does that mean more travel for some levels?  Not really.  We'll still be playing games at the same fields we've played at for years.  The only change will be with practice schedules.  With additional field availability, there will be a rotating practice schedule using fields from all three areas.  We should all be able to practice more.  Why the merger anyway?  Our focus has been on the challenge of dealing with continued drop-offs in the number of kids playing, the corresponding loss of volunteers and of course the financial ramifications associated with continuing to run the individual programs.  What about All-Stars?  All-Star teams will represent Kiski Valley Little League and will also be formed through a tryout process.  We anticipate being able to field three All-Star teams each season for those players under the age of 12, a 9, 10 year old team, an 11 year old team and an 11, 12 year old team.  Junior and Senior All-Star teams may also be fielded.

New 2009 Rule for Non-Wood Bats

All non-wood bats must be printed with the BPF (Bat Performance Factor) of 1.15 or less for use in the 2009 Little League season. For the last 10 years, bat manufacturers have only been producing non-wood bats for play in Little League Baseball that do not exceed the 1.15 BPF. Most of these bats are already printed with the BPF of 1.15, but beginning in 2009, all bats used in Little League Baseball must be imprinted with the BPF.

If you're buying a new bat or using one you already have, it has to have a printed BPF of 1.15 or less.  If it doesn't, you can't use it.  Go check!
