KVCA Announces its 2009 Region Recognitions

LEXINGTON, Ky. (October 14, 2009) – The Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) announced its third-annual Region Players and Region Coaches of the Year today.  All recipients will be honored at the 2009 KHSAA State Tournament at Northern Kentucky University, in ceremonies directly preceding the State Championship Match on Oct. 31.

Kaye Smith of South Laurel is the only coach to receive Region Coach of the Year in all three years of the award’s existence; she won 12th Region honors in 2007 and 2008, and 13th Region in 2009.  Steve Howard of Owensboro Catholic, Todd Garvey of Mercy, Dale Grupe of Henry Clay and Larry Maynard of Allen Central all won the award for the second time in 2009.

Only one player, Kelly Moyer of Oldham County, is receiving Region Player of the Year honors for the second time.  Recognitions were voted on by KVCA member coaches.
