About KiVA
KiVA Divas Travel to Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy to Represent U.S. in 2008 European Global Challenge
Last year as a sophomore playing for Anne Kordes' St Louis University Billikens, Whitney Roth was named Setter-of-the-Year for the Atlantic 10 conference. During her career at KiVA, Whitney Roth won two Junior Olympic Open titles (2001 and 2005) and a couple AAU Golds (2001 and 2003). As a senior, she set Assumption High School to a National Championship during a perfect 43-0 season. Carrie Minogue was only a sophomore that year, but her KiVA club teams have also collected some hardware; a JO gold in 2003, silver in 2005 and 2007, and a bronze in 2006, all in Open competition as well as four AAU championships ('03, '04, '05, and '07). Carrie begins her collegiate career this fall for the Catamounts of Western Carolina University.
The two met in Paris en route to their training camp in Maribor, Slovenia, a small mountain town on the foothills of the Alps, where they will practice with a Romanian National team. Today, they travel to Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia, where they will scrimmage the Junior National team from Denmark. Tomorrow they will scrimmage a team from Russia in preparation for the actual four-day tournament named the 2008 European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia, a seaside town on the Adriatic Sea. Their beginning pool contains teams from Italy, Montenegro and Slovenia. Reseeding will be done based on the first two days of competion, and teams will be placed in either the Brijuni (Gold) or Istra (Silver) Division brackets. After the tournament, Carrie will see the sights in Venice with the WCU contingent for a couple of days before returning home.
Whitney has a weblog that can be accessed at http://slubillikens.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/071808aab.html. Carrie, along with teammate Lizzy Rondone (libero at WCU), and their coach Stephanie Dragan are keeping a diary which can be accessed at the Western Carolina University Volleyball website (here is the link http://catamountsports.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/wcar-w-volley-body.html ). The team also has a journal that can be accessed from the Teams page or the Training Camps (Maribor) page from the tournament website, http://www.bringitusa.com/gc08. Tournament results will also be posted there. John Tawa mentioned on PrepVolleyball's message board that he was working on an article to post on his site as well. Last year, another KiVA diva, Mindy Flynn competed in Pula. Her picture and last year's results can be accessed at this link

14 Black Wins Union Classic Championship
12 Red Wins Central Zone Championship Saturday, February 23 14 White Shows Promise in 2008
Here we are two months into the season and the KIVA 14 White have accomplished alot in a short time. We currently hold a 30-10 record withalot of our victories coming from playing at an older age level. We just have just come from a 3rd place finish in the Dayton's President's Cup. We competed very well in 14 Open division, defeating great teams such as Team Z 14-1 and Impact 14-1. So far this year we have won the Silver division in the Central Zone Invite, knocking off Team Indiana 14-1. We are heading into a very tough weekend in the Central Zone Championships in Indy. The team is having a blast and sky is the limit with this very talented bunch of girls. PS. Profiles were just received for 14W on Friday and should be posted by end of week.

Wednesday, April 4 Reduce Club Cost By Carpooling The cost of Club Volleyball increases with the price of gas. With that in mind, I would like to offer a way that can act as a clearinghouse of sorts to match potential carpoolers to tournaments, qualifiers, and nationals. I'll add an option to our menu called KiVA Karpool and let it run for the rest of the year to see how well-received it is. Send information about your needs (including what day, what time you can leave, how many, etc) to KivaWebmasters@gmail.com and each day I'll post them to KiVA Karpool. Wednesday, April 4 What do Darrell Griffith, Wesley Unseld, Rodney McCray, and Ron Kordes have in common?
So how about Bear Bryant, Adolph Rupp, Denny Crum, and Ron Kordes? If you said that they're all great coaches in Kentucky, you'd be correct but that is not the answer I'm looking for either. How about Butch Beard, Frank Beard, Ralph Beard, and Ron Kordes? Trick question, but still a hint, just like Wesley Cox, Earl Cox, and Johnny Cox. How about George Blanda, Johnny Unitas, and Paul Hornung? Or Eddie Arcaro, Don Brumfield, and Pat Day? Ok, these hints will probably give it away; Muhammad Ali, Secretariat, and Ron Kordes. Give up? These are all members of the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame. Or at least will be, since Ron and Secretariat are being inducted on Wednesday, May 2. I'm sure there's a good punchline there somewhere, but I'm not touching it. Tickets are $75 per person, and are available by calling Jo Barrett at Kosair Charities in Louisville: (502) 637-7696 (ext. 104). The Hall of Fame benefits “Kosair Kids” by contributing the induction banquet proceeds and donations to Kosair Charities. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 and the program at 8 p.m. A form is attached below if you would like to attend. It has a deadline of April 18th. The Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame board member is indebted to The Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center board for its support of this KAHF endeavor on behalf of Kosair Charities. We also are grateful to the Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Companies for its longtime corporate sponsorship and for providing these plaques for display in one of Kentucky’s premier sports facilities. The “Walls of Fame” exhibit is free and open to the public during any sports activity or general event at Freedom Hall. While the area housing the Walls of Fame is often accessible at other times, you may wish to call Freedom Hall in advance about the hours the area is open and available.
