MINUTES OF MEETING, AUGUST 6, 2007
We made a final review of the Friends and Family campaign letter. This letter will be given to crew team members for signature and returned to Mike and Lisa Schneller for mailing. We plan to mail the letters out at the next meeting(9/17). PLEASE send us via e-mail 10 names (with addresses) of people you would like to receive this letter. We will be cross checking to avoid duplicate letters being sent out. Once the letter is signed by the captains, it will be available to parents/crew team members for distribution to family members. We will create a master list and stuff and send during our next meeting. We thought it would be a good idea to send the letter to KHS alumni involved with rowing. Any questions, please let us know. Things are being finalized at Barnes and Noble by Rene Stiert. Our fundraising weekend is October 5th and 6th. Ideas were discussed and Rene will run them by Barnes and Noble on August 13th. The ideas are: crew team members could read to younger children, we could have a shell outside of the store to draw attention to the team, we could ask for various books on rowing and the Hudson River to be on display, we could make pictures boards to be on display throughout the store. Coupons will be made available to both parents and crew team members in September. Please distribute them to everyone you know!!!! The band has had success with this fundraiser. Rick Dunn will be calling Mr. Pitcher across the river to get information on selling hanging flower baskets and smaller plants for Mother's Day 2008. Orders will be taken prior to Mother's Day and we will also sell a certain amount to the general public. A can shake should be organized in November -any volunteers? let me know (thanks) I will call the school to inquire about the Winter Carnival and how to secure a booth. There will be a yearbook created and distributed in June 2008. Thanks

Crew Fundraising Update
To all KHS crew team members and parents:

We had a productive meeting the other night. Some excellent ideas were added to the list as well as approximate event dates. KHS Crew now has an official website thanks to Ray Presky. It is in the development stages and we need input from parents, students, coaches and the like. I think it will function as a great platform for communication and information sharing. If anyone has any photos of prior meets or anything 'crewish' please send to Mr. Presky ( rhp567@yahoo.com ) . Mr. Presky is also kind enough to donate printed T-shirts; he would like ideas, images, sayings, etc.

We felt it necessary to get one event (Can Shake) in before the holidays. Susan Zabatta or Mary Orapello will be in touch with all those who signed up for this event.

Tentative calendar:

December 16 a/o 17 – Can Shake [Zabatta/Orapello]

January 20 – Pancake Breakfast [Schneller] Ulster Fire Dept on Ulster Ave ?

February 24 – Ergathon/Row-a-thon [?] Hudson Valley Mall? Concept II sponsorship?

March - Winter Carnival [?](the school may not hold this event this year because of austerity budget!)

April/May – Yard Sale [?] could be held at museum or possible at indoor location.

June – Cruise Raffle [Grossbohlin] drawing to held at end of the year dinner banquet. Cruise plus cash prizes. More details to come on this but we should start selling tickets soon.

Does anyone know if we can publicize these events on KHS TV? and Kingston Public Access TV? And does anyone want to produce a crew commercial?

[] denotes chairperson- we need volunteers to spearhead a few of the events.

Any thoughts about a booth in the Lions Expo? Let me know.

Thanks Again,
Mike Schneller

Meeting Minutes Feb 10 2008

Kingston HS Varsity Crew Booster Club Meeting Minutes

February 10, 2008

Present: Linda Lauro Lazin, Donna Tomesch, Mike and Lisa Schneller, Mary Orapello,

Ray Presky, Kerri Sullivan

Discussed purchase of a navy blue 2003 Vespoli M2 8+ from Smith College for $16.5K.  Vespoli is very highly respected brand and made in USA.  http://www.vespoli.com/content/view/289/171/1/1/  It is a mid-weight boat that meets the versatile needs of the KHS crew team and the RRC members.  It was originally priced at $27.8K.  The boat will be delivered in the next few weeks.

At the beginning of crew season we would like to take a photo of the crew team with the new boat to use as a thank you to those who donated. We will also invite them to the first home meet. (and include a season schedule)

Kerri Sullivan attended the meeting and asked that the booster club add ergs as part of the wish list for the team. Currently there are seven old style ergs and 2 newer ergs in good condition. Parts were recently purchased to repair the ergs that needed it. Ergs cost approximately $800/each. The goal is to purchase eight at a cost of $6400.

Kerri will be taking an inventory of oars to see if there is a need for any additional oars. (Cost $100/each) She will e-mail the inventory to us. Kerri and Cathy will also be checking with Glenn Maisch to see if the district is able to help with the purchase of ergs.

Kerri also shared that there is a possibility we will need new shoes for the Vespoli but that the Rowing Club will purchase these for their needs.

Kerri shared that because the team is no longer a club but a Varsity sport, we will not be able to participate in the Winter Carnival.

A rowing clinic has been planned for Saturday March 29th.  West Point has 2 rowing tanks that can accommodate 8 rowers each and several ergs. A conflict with All County Orchestra was determined; however, we all agreed it is difficult to meet the needs of so many schedules/activities that the kids are involved in. Those who are able to attend will certainly benefit from this clinic!

Kerri thanked the parents/booster club for all of their hard work!

  • The officers of the booster club will attend the next Rowing Club meeting to look at short term and long term goals for boats/equipment. (TBD)
  • Linda Lauro Lazin will be researching florists in Ulster County for our Mother's Day flowers fundraiser.
  • Donna Tomesch distributed Dick's Sporting Goods coupons. We will give them to crew team members for under armor, etc. In addition, it was suggested that we can send them with our thank you letters.
  • A can shake was held the weekend of Feb 8th, we raised over $400.

Next meeting TBD.
