Colorado Fireworks Recap

The young Zephyrs Gold team had a very productice week at the Colorado Fireworks Tournament finishing with a 5-4 record overall.

The Zephyrs started the week with sound victorys over the VA Shooting Stars Gold and the CA Minors Gold in our two practice games.

In pool play the Zephyrs won 2 and lost 2, highlighted by two run rule victorys and two close game losses to some very good teams.

Bracket play however didn't produce the results the Zephyrs had hoped for with a heartbreaking opening round loss to the HI Pearl City Pearls that scored all 5 of their runs on 1 home run and two passed balls. The Zephyrs rallied for 4 runs but fell just short.

The 1st losers bracket game found the Zephyrs matched up with local (Kansas City) opponent the Desoto Belles. And as history will tell you, your 1st losers bracket game is always the toughest, the Zephyrs held on to a 1-0 victory to send the Belles home. The Zephyrs allowed only 2 baserunners in the game.

The Zephyrs offense continued to sleep as the team lost 3-0 to the SoCal Mizuno Pride Gold early Saturday morning ending our tournament.

The final Colorado results show that you girls played some of the best competition in the tournament. Although we know that we could have played better than our 65th place finish, "I hope it gives you incentive to know how some of the teams we played finished. Some of the teams we Killed or played closely finished higher than we did."
This shows that with a little maturity and experience your future as a team looks very bright.

Statistically Speaking:

  1. 5-4 overall record
  2. Outscored opponents 34-21
  • 9th place - NJ Intensity Gold (5-6 come from behind loss)
  • 13th place - OK Attack (4-0 loss they scored all their runs on 2 homeruns)
  • 25th t - TX Hawks (10-0 run rule victory)

  • 49th - HI Pearls (4-5 loss They had a 3 run HR)
  • 49th - Mizuno Pride Gold 0-3 loss)

"Do the little things right, get a clutch hit in key situations & keep the ball in the ballpark and you could have easily been a top 10 team as a predominantly young Gold team."
