Zephyrs Gold in Surf City This past weekend the Zephyrs Gold made their 4th trip to SoCal to play in the Batbusters Surf City exposure showcase. What a GREAT weekend for softball and a tremendous learning opportunity for this year’s young Zephyr squad. Here are this years Highlights and Lowlights:
- On Friday Corona Angels Gold Coach Marty Tyson came out to Huntington Beach and worked with the girls on their hitting strategies and taught the Zephyrs about “IT” Marty was very generous with his time and the girls learned from one of the best
- On Saturday UCLA /USA Junior National team and Firecrackers Gold Pitcher Megan Langenfeld Came out to our games and spoke to the girls about her experiences with college and travel ball and offered the ladies valuable insight and knowledge, Also her Firecrackers Gold coach Don Minard talked with the Zephyr parents about the college recruiting process.
- On Sunday Marty Tyson came out again to watch the girls in action, after the game he critiqued their performance and offered more very valuable advice to the players and parents about competing at the Gold level.
- On Sunday Coach Rob was drilled in the head by a line drive foul ball while calling pitches in the dug out. As of Monday I seem to be ok, just a slight headache. I guess I really do have a “hard head”
- The overall exposure aspect of the tournament was all we could ask for with coaches from schools like: Alabama, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Iowa, Northwestern, Depaul, UIC, UMKC, Akron, Colorado School Of Mines, Bradley, Arkansas, Oregon & Illinois State attending games. The players enjoyed a great opportunity to showcase their skills.
- Other notable highlights
- Maggies fondness for “little people”
