GIANTS WIN "ROAD TO OMAHA" MANTLE TOURNAMENT - 2 MAJOR GOALS REMAIN
The Florida Diamond Dogs were overheard commenting that they "hadn't seen much pitching" since arriving in Council Bluffs.
Albert Minnis changed their thinking with a dominating 8-0 Championship game win. Following numerous spectacular outings earlier this season, Minnis hurled a no-hitter against the highly ranked Florida team.
Congrats to all the boys for a great job.
Checker's tournament record is now 36-9 heading into USSSA and Triple Crown State Championship Events.

CHECKER - ABLECARE RIVALRY ELEVATES WITH 1-0 SEMI FINAL THRILLER!
For several years, the Northland saga between these two fine ball clubs have provided the regions best competition among great friends on both teams. These match ups continue to bring friends and families together knowing that great, classic - highly entertaining baseball is almost always going to happen - win or lose!
Today in the USSSA/KC SPORTS "May Mash" Semi- Final game, Major level stars Albert Minnis and Sal Belfonte took their teams into extra innings 0-0. These two powerful - 80 mph+ future HS and Summer Showcase pitchers, both held great opposing offenses scoreless through 7 innings.
In the bottom of the 8th, after solid relief by Alex Otto, Brandon Simmons closed the show with a clutch RBI for the victory...one of the best pitched and most exciting Northland games in recent history.

CHECKER TAKES 3RD IN HISTORY'S LARGEST USSSA SUPER NIT!! THE GIANTS FINISH AGAIN AS THE TOP MIDWEST SQUAD
In another rain shortened event, the Giants missed their opportunity to gain an Elite 24 berth when heavy weather arrived. The Beaumnont (Texas) Gladiators escaped a big game match up with Checker LHP Albert Minnis.
In the first game of the day, Brandon Simmons brushed back the Midwest Vikings on the way to a 8-5 victory, sending the Giants into the Final Four. Dakota Smith's strong lead off offense led the scoring machine.
Congratulations to all of the Giants as they continue to excel against higher competition this season and roll toward the Road to Omaha and the USSSA and Triple Crown State Tournaments.

BRANDON SIMMONS AND THE GIANTS BRING HOME A GUTTY 15U USSSA NIT CHAMPIONSHIP!
In the first big 15U Event of 2006, The Checker boys ventured up an age group and faced rugged competition again. The Giants have been in 3 Major Level Championship games and a Final 4 (rained shortened Super NIT) in the last month, bringing home 2 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd. The 4 year, Pre-HS plan is gaining steam in the home stretch.
This time, fine hitting and tremendous relief work by the "Killer B", Brandon Simmons defeated the Independendence Hammers a long established power, 12-11 for 1st place. Thanks to all of the 15U teams we played this weekend for their great sportsmanship.

HEALTHY - COMPLETE GIANTS BALLCLUB TAKES THE "MAY MASH"!!
Checker began to realize its potential this weekend with a 6-0 record and a Tournament Championship.
In games 4-5-6 on Championship Sunday, Checker Pitchers held opposing teams scoreless in 17 of 19 innings. In Sundays first game, Brandon Simmons won against a fiesty Kansas City Giants 8-3. Then came the "A" Train, Albert Minnis's sterling performance against the Seminoles in the semi. Alex Otto proceeded to shut down the Gator's 16-2 in the Championship game. Otto followed his relief win against Ablecare with another vs the Gators.
Dynamic 7th Grader Dakota Smiths return (after 2 months injured) to the leadoff spot, along with 2 hole hitter Alec Sartain's hot bat (6 for 6 to start the tournament) paced the Offense. Every other player also hit this weekend against top competition.
Many other players had great moments at some point in the weekend in what was a true team success including: Chris Bates breaking up a late double play and 5 hits Sunday. JD Weyers continued solid bats.
Essential dugout comaraderie and team unity were also outstanding...a tribute to the character and competitive nature of this years fine group of boys. These young men are having fun while succeeding at their age groups highest competitive level.

On Sunday,after another rain delayed event, normal great pitching by Dakota Smith, Alex Otto, Albert Minnis and Brandon Simmons along with powerful offense in 2 of the games, brought Checker another Big Time Championship

PARENTS/PLAYERS EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO THE OTTO'S FOR FUNDRAISING ROLE

Organizing Committee member Otto's experience with tournament operations has paid off handsomely for many MoKan families this year.
The recent 1st Annual MoKan Showdown was a huge success and may have set a one event - net income per family fundraising record for baseball in Kansas City.
The Otto family donated the entire event to the organization's parents and it is very appreciated by all. In recent messages to the GM, the follwing comments were offered:
Jamie Hayes Mom Traci said it all..."I wanted to send a BIG THANK YOU to Mike Otto for letting the Giants benefit from his tournament!!!!
Jordan Shipers Mom Debbie noted, "awesome that the tournament went well. You managers work very hard for us, and as for my family, we appreciate it!".
Even player Clay Smith pitched in, "Thank you for doing the tournament and I personally enjoyed selling T-Shirts".

4 OUTSTANDING PLAYERS JOIN CHECKER FOR THE RUGGED 2006 CAMPAIGN
The Giants have received committments from 4 well established Major level players for the Spring '06 season. All four have played at highly successful organizations and are delighted to be joining the rising - high level program that Coach Massey will offer in future years.
JD WEYER joins the Giants after good years at the Lookouts, Sharks and Ablecare Seminoles (2005).
ALEX OTTO comes to Checker following outstanding seasons at the Kearney Pirates, Lookouts and and two years at the Mac n'Seitz Indians (2004/2005).
BRANDON SIMMONS played at the 14U Barnstomers in '05. Also a former Lookout, Brandon joins the Giants after giving strong consideration to the Mac n'Seitz program.
ALBERT MINNIS is returning from Phoenix to Kansas City North. He has recently competed on select teams in Arizona, Southern California and in the Caribean area.
The Minnis family chose the Giants after experiencing Ablecare and considering the National Powerhouse Mac n' Seitz. He will be Coach Massey's first LHP in recent years.
All four players are strong offensively and Minnis, Otto and Simmons have great track records on the mound. With the Giants program having faired well in its 1st year at the Majors Classification, these 4 fine athletes should help bring Checker to an even higher competitive level in 2006.

DISAPPOINTING CHAMPIONSHIP GAME LOSS FOLLOWS IMPORTANT WIN OVER MAC N' SEITZ
The tank was empty for Checker in the Championship game. Congratulations to Bill Wiedeman's program for a hungry - solid victory, 10-0.
Previously in the semi -final, LHP Albert Minnis topped the Indians with another tremendously pitched 7-2 victory, Checkers first win over the perinially - highly ranked national level team.
